Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

Yes, I also think total production number is too low but 550 cars worldwide has nice ring to it. Just have to wait and see. Also the three press cars must be Guards Red, Black and Racing Yellow as seen various photos of these colours online. No white or silver?

Such a low number doesn't seem plausible from the point of view of recovering costs of design and tooling the production run. Having said that, with demand for regular 981, they may just be running out of time and capacity? From a commercial perspective, does it make sense to produce less than 2000 units globally, based on limited models so far in Porsche's water cooled period. :)

New page, new pic!

ORIGINAL: H14PDB Not sure if this has been read on Pistonheads: Some German dude said this on another forum: Hallo to everyone from Germany. Couldn't resist to drop a line. Please excuse if my english isn't perfect. I ordered a Spyder here in Germany with a slot for September this year. The first Spyders will be arriving at Porsche Exklusive Showroom beginning of July. There're currently NO Spyders at any showroom in Germany. NONE, Zilch, ZIP............ NADA The car simply won't be available at any dealership, cause all slots for Germany are sold. Yep, you got it right - SOLD OUT. There's a similar Porsche Forum in Germany where Spyder Owners/Buyers exchange infos. In our opinion the total qty. of Spyders for Germany is less than 240 !!! - and an estimated 550 worldwide. If you got an allocation - you're lucky. The pictures you've been seeing here from Spyders, running on German roads were partially taken by members of the Forum and posted there. There are currently 3 cars running on German streets as "Press-Cars" for Press presentations. There won't be any serial production car available anywhere to be seen before July. The ones of you who got a July slot, will be served with Spyders around the same time as here in Germany. @ all Owners - Congratulations on buying the Spyder
On 2nd thoughts those numbers stack up if the production run is literally just 5 months in 2015 part July before summer holidays part August post holidays Sept/Oct/Nov & Dec 2015 Question is how many build months are left from January 2016, if any at all, and up to the point the facelift 981's start rolling down the flat 4 turbo charged lines[:D]

How saleable would a white Spyder without air-con or radio be, fairly basic spec but manual, buckets and spyder wheels and low mileage?? Also the question about the cars for sale advertised with PSE but with black exhaust tips. Is there a definitive answer to this, is anyone aware of a PSE car with black tail pipes?? Many thanks

manual, spyder wheels, buckets, low milage and white. snatch it up quick. PSE is nice but there are other exhausts. Aircon and radio, not for me in a weekend toy, top down with the sound of the exhaust, that is what you need

aircon ,pcm and radio will always be more saleable!other exhausts are great but not if you want the warranty plus you are not keeping as original which will always be the higher priced cars

IMO the no ac or radio ones would be the most desirable IMO. I intentionally sought out one without ac as I don't daily drive it. Even on my dd the ac gets used about 3-4 times a year max on motorway journeys. Fresh air is where it's at!

i have changed a few things on my car but i worked out it can all be put back in one working day. when you alter things you have to make sure all the parts taken off stay with that car. i recovered all 5 lower dash section including end plates with red alcantara, these were obtained off ebay so i did not alter the ones that came with the car so it will now have an origional set, red alcantara set and nex to be done will be a grey alcantara set. another set of panels obtained off ebay. as for aircon/PCM radio, as i posted earlier, most people want them for resale values not because they want them, not on a toy just the music from the engine. well that is just my opinion and what do i know i am mad

Cars with PSE and the black tips have most likely had it retrofitted. If you get it retrofitted at a dealer you have to order the silver tips as well as the exhaust or they just put the black ones back on.

If you were referring to the TH Boler advertised car, which was all of the above, then it has been withdrawn from sale by seller (me!) due to 981 Spyder production delays. Original promise was July car, now moved to Oct/Nov so didn't want to let the car go and then be without anything to play with throughout this summer. All being well, i.e seeing and hearing more of the 981, then it may be back up for sale in September. Exhaust tips, my understanding was factory PSE got silver tips.

Seems plausible - guess the chrome tips are just a bolt on affair anyway ? wonder how much if so ?

http://www.pistonheads.com/regulars/blog/the-problem-with-porsches-tell-me-im-wrong/32158 Good article. I wonder if the new Spyder might be 'just a little too accomplished' for it's own good in dialling out the driver experience compared to the 987. Having enjoyed the engagement, the poise, the steering, the grip of the 987 Spyder around Anglesey on Saturday I worry that moving to the 981 will leave me feeling less engaged. Guess it comes back to the question of want are you wanting from the car, for me it's a car that makes you think about how you drive it to get the best out of it. I suspect there will be clear blue water between the driving experience of the GT4 and Spyder, in favour of the GT4 from my perspective.
