Brian can we have some before and after pics just to make sure its been done to standard expected :ROFLMAO:Congrats on what could well be a record mileage in one week for any Spyders on here (6 months dry motoring in mine would just about equal that!)

I did Preston to Le Mans and back via Rennes, Brittany over 5 days in 2012. What do I win? [:D]

You got your prize Rob.[&:] You were awarded the V.C.[;)]

Looks a nice enough car at the price ...also the Silver with Red interior if you like that finish .

There are 3 for sale with the wrong wheels. I think all agree they have to come with Spyder wheels as to the seats/gears I will not go down that route [:D] as it has been flogged to death .I see a low mileage with all the boxes ticked must be around a asking price of £45-47 K

This is the dilemma I have got come Sept when the 4 year service is due and the possibility of a extended warranty applied .As like most on here who use the car for 6months of the year .Do I wait till the spring and get the work done in say April that way I do not loose 6 months warranty as the car would be laid up I appreciate I would then have to pay the £216 for the 111 point check, trade that off against £638 for 6 months warranty saving £422

Or do I get it serviced at a respected Independent Would anyone buying a Spyder reject it because it was not done at an OPC and would it affect the resale values? Give me your thoughts owners

I can confirm the following costs regarding the Service due on your Porsche,

Major Service - £610.00

Also due would be the following,

Air Conditioning Service - £200.00

Brake fluid change -£150.00

Drive belt check - £60.00

Air Bag System Check - £60.00

Spark Plugs - £242.41

Tyre sealant - £44.30

Warranty

12 Month Warranty with Porsche Assist - £829.00

24 Month Warranty with Porsche Assist - £1,595

12 Month Warranty without Porsche Assist - £660.00

24 Month Warranty without Porsche Assist - £1,320.00

111 check would need to be carried out to extend any warranty on your Porsche, the cost of this is normally £216.00

However, I would take this into account if you were having all this work carried out with Porsche Centre

I never bother with the following:-

Warranty not warranted on my 3k or less p.a. dry mileage

Air con service IMO is just that a con! never have it done, never use the air con and a mobile air con company would do it for 1/2 that price or less

Tyre sealant another con you can buy green slime sealant online for under £10 delivered to your door and I am not convinced the factory sealant wouldn't still work after many more years in your boot anyway

As you rightly say you could use a Porsche only indi and 1/2 the OPC prices all day long - As I don't buy any warranty I use an OPC in the good faith if something major went pop Porsche would offer me a good will claim as the car would have a full OPC history and very low miles etc

I think buyers would look for OPC servicing on a 4 year old car. Especially a Spyder.

I bought my 2.9 last summer when it was due all of the same items which I had done by Edinburgh OPC, except the tyre sealant as I would phone the RAC if I had a puncture anyway, and it cost £1017.89 after PCGB member discount. So I think there may be some flexibility on cost.

Spydermen unlike Porsche sealant which means the tyre has to be junked the Slime can be washed out and the tyre repaired even so for £10 its a no brainer all day long

why not get the car serviced while under warranty so if anything is found your covered then don't renew warranty!

that was my game plan but sold the car before I reached that point.

If you intend to sell a Spyder in the next couple of years warranty and OPC Service is a great selling point. If you intend to keep it long term these options are not so attractive as most Spyders do a limited mileage and to the best of my knowledge no one here has had any expensive issues. I bought a new 986 in 2000, which I knew I was going to keep, had the first service done at OPC and haven't been back since, car still going like a dream with regular inexpensive servicing Mobil 1 etc. The expense saved in OPC servicing, warranty etc over 15years is serious money. Bought the Spyder 2 years ago and now following the same plan, only time will tell but the money saved on the 986 and Spyder to date would pay for serious repairs to either car.

On the 986 I would say you were lucky irrespective of service regime whereas the spyder I would say you will not have to worry so much ie ims/ borescore !

Yes the 986 has never had the engine touched. I have my fingers crossed regarding the IMS bearing and when the oil is changed a magnet is placed in the funnel of the oil collector to check for debris, as an early warning system. I believe not exceeding 2/2.5 K revs until the car is completely warm is one of the keys to long life in an engine. Interestingly my new BMW 3 series has an oil temperature gauge and it is surprising how much longer it takes for the oil to warm after the normal water temperature is reached.

I'm looking for a bit of a product review - I'm thinking of buying a tyre pressure monitor system from TyrePal for peace of mind when on longer journeys / trips. I seem to recall that someone on here has used one (was it Daro?). If so, would you recommend this solution? Do the sensors on the valves weigh enough to throw out balance and (more importantly [8|] ) do they look daft? Thanks.

Guilty as charged it was me. I have the Steelmate TPMS that plugs into the cigarette lighter and shows all 4 corners continuously but once I am on the move and see pressures are good I close the ashtray down as the bleeps when you have a puncture are loud enough to hear lid closed

I have had no issues with the actual caps refs balance and I rarely have anyone ask what are those tyre valve covers [:D] I am so use to them I don't notice them at all and I don't faff around with the locking device and so far on 2 cars never had anyone nick one (last famous words now)
