So I have driven it. On road and around handling track, only one word to descibe it and that is, excellent.

The spyder at PEC is high spec, GT silver with classic interior.

Will post some photos when get back home.

Many thanks and full report would be appreciated Good Bad & Ugly if need be to keep Mr Demon happy with his Spyder Hardtop choice

Saw my first one in the flesh on Sunday at the Nurburgring.

Have to say, I was really impressed. It somehow looked better in real life than it does in photos. Really like it.

I am very happy, I hope people enjoy their 981's and it gives them the wow factor in owner ship.

First impression seeing the car is that colour choice is important to get most visual effect.

The roof operation seemed to need key in ignition to enable power catches to open or close.

Roof is basic inside but that part is behind you so you never notice it, though it was roof down driving.

Operation of roof is not hard and will be fast and easy once you have done a few times. Be interesting to confirm if you can access rear boot with roof up.

Rear vision is very restricted, get the camera on your option list. Noted that is not fitted to PEC car.

The car had 163 miles on it when I got in and seems I was only second person to drive it, excepting Porsche staff. It attracted lot of attention from instructors who all expressed a liking for the car.

I drove the car on handling circuit initially then took it out onto mix of local roads.

Ride was good and tight, you knew when the road was in poor condition but didn't crash or slam.

Steering seemed quick.

Gear change is smooth and slick.

With so few miles didn't take above 4500rpm but you can hear engine come alive above 3000rpm.

The car has 'standard' bucket seats, these felt slightly too high but then once driving stopping noticing it. Also they seemed to be better fit than the LWB seats as we sat in the GT4 with those for me to try.

I am happy with it and really looking forward to receiving my own car.

Mr D

the instructor we had said he thought 987 Spyder was possibly best car Porsche had made.

Thinking about selling my Spyder fairly soon due to new one on order.

It's a PDK model which I deliberately went for mainly due to leg room issues, and although it does work very well I think I'd like a manual again, and the new one does have more leg room especially with the new buckets, I've already tested this out in a GT4.

Question is do I take the easy option of trading in at my OPC, or try to sell privately for possibly a decent bit more ??

Basic spec is white, PDK c/w SC, buckets, Turbo wheels (everyone thinks they look great), PSE, 18.5k miles with recent major service carried out, and in excellent condition, warranty until next April I think.

Bought from 911 Virgin over a year ago for just under 40k, any thoughts on what this would realistically sell for now privately up in Aberdeen ??

I was thinking £42k maybe ??

Cheers.

Sandy,

As there's no particular rush to sell, then I'd have thought for the cost of an advert it must be worth having a punt privately - just make sure the advert is well written, emphasise the OPC warranty (transferable as a private sale), and lots of good pictures showing condition (so that people feel comfortable that a trip to Aberdeen isn't a waste). This all assumes you can be bothered with the faff of calls, viewings, payment worries etc! Have you got an idea from OPC and 911V as to trade prices? Do 911V do SOR (to retain the warranty transfer)? How long did it take 911V to sell yours to you?

With regards value, I don't know where the market is, but your guess would be mine also.

How did the rest of your week after Silverstone Classic go?

Steve

Sandy - Your timing could be all wrong as there are plenty of Spyders now on the used market but your pricing IMO is on the money as I see your car at circa £40k trade £42k private £45k retail Good luck when the time comes to part

981 Spyder When is your new car being built and what is your spec currently mine was a December build which thankfully has been pushed well back with a 4 month PTS delay which means I get the car exactly when I wanted it Spring 2016[;)]

Steve,

Well new car due in November and I'll be out the country quite a bit until then, so thought now might be a good time esp with the sun still around - even in Aberdeen !! Some good points to bear in mind thanks, trade bid is around £37/38k I think, an extra 5k could be worth a bit of faffing in the scheme of things, will have another think.

Rest of the week went great thanks, only disappointment was driving a Turbo S instead of the new Spyder, great car for what it is though.

Sandy

PS - Friend of mine picked up a new Spyder last week :

Never really checked the classifieds yet to be honest, but thanks for the info.

New car is October build so not ideal really, wanted to stick with white so didn't bother with PTS. Still finalising spec but probably red bits inside, LW buckets for extra leg room, Nav plus various other items nearly everyone else gives you as standard these days, still debating on PCCBs, I am a fan but it's still an expensive option.

Sandy - Very nice full spec Spyder but I have to ask why the Ali "look" fuel cap which nobody will ever see other than you when filling up! That option has always fascinated me especially as the cap is plastic still[&:]

Now up to three at Porsche Centres

I thought this was a must have for resale ??

Actually it is a fair point, I had it on a recent car which I hadn't spec'd and just thought it looked quite good, even if it is only on view at the pumps, sad I know.
