Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

17 cars up for sale on pistoheads a low mileage 1 owner manual for less than £40k! Cars with a few miles and warranty for mid to high £30s!Has the bubble burst on Spyders and we now have market correction?I know we are approaching winter but prices were not this low last winter!

 
we also have 50 991 GT3 and loads of 997 GT3 but that is a bubble.

the bubble has not burst ! there was NO bubble on the Spyder it just held good value 20k under RRP

A lot of people are selling for the new car and that starts a price war to shift the cars. As we have said before nothing to worry about imo.

There are quite a few R's for sale also.

There is nothing like it on the market, there will never be anything like it again, and there are not many in the UK anyway.

you just have to hold out, it's a rare Porker it will go back up once the people have moved on and the 981 sales have been and gone.

esp in 2016 when we see 981 Spyders for £100k and people can get into the old one for £40k.

sub £40k car will get the Lotus boys twitching in Spring 2016, yes the Spyder bucked the winter trend in the past that's because there were very few cars, so people jumped on cars and stored them.

Back to normal slow sales for winter like most cars now esp cabs.

hold out 5 years and it will be £60k

It's only the 981 Spyder doing this as people part ex, the cars will sell in the end and then prices will go back up prob more than £45k because of high value 981 Spyder sales.

I don't get the bubble talk either, cars dropped to £38k ish for low mile ones and only ever reached a real selling £45k that's still £20k under list, that's not a bubble lol

Loads of cars are still above the max £45k selling price !! people are just shifting private cars to avoid low trade bids, if you can make £1k more than trade then it's worth a punt on a quick sale over part ex.

 
35 CR/spyder for sale on pistoheads.With cars coming up to 5 years old now so fast forward 5 years 2020/1 the second hand market for 981 gt4/ spyder up for sale at £50k and current 987 spyder/R for £25k!

For a sale now spec. and warranty will be key and a mileage related price ie. High miles c£35k and low mlies c£40k and one owner ,v.low miles, long warranty pristine cars c£42k!

Personally I cannot see the 981 gt4 / spyder selling at £30k overs now or long term!There may be an initial premium but cars will soon return to list!So imo 987 spyder/cr prices are softening!

new cars long term make no odds on older cars where it comes to rare pork, look at 964's prices, or 1999GT3 prices etc, the 987.2 car is a nicer car than the 981 imo, and will date better as it's a pretty thing. I would not be surprised to see it overtake 981 Spyder prices longer term esp when the 981.2 Spyder comes out with a nicer electric roof :p

I also don't see £30k overs, but you may well see cars at £20k over selling in Spring.

I have friends who have older cars which were £80k odd in the past , now these cars are £400k+

I took bets with people 4 years back when they said Spyders will be £25k , I won of course, and I will win again in 5 years :) we just need to remember where this post was :p

people get hung up on warranty and OPC sales also on here, no where else that is an issue, and when the cars are over 8 years NO warranty just like all the mega expensive cars for sale which never see OPC's !!!

Some cars were £46k in that post of yours so where is this bubble you guys are taking about ? :)

 
MrD I agree the 987.2 is a nicer car than the 981 but we may be in a minority of prospective modern porsche buyers thus also like we prefer manual over Pdk the problem with the boxster/Cayman is it is not a 911 in collectible terms like the cars you quote above although with the arrival of the gt4 may be a game changer

The 987.2 Spyder will be a rare car going forward. be better when the cars a bit older now and people get over the warranty/OPC thing.

I still see it going up from todays price, not 911 money but £10k more than todays prices, I guess we might see a winter fight on prices now, so you would have to be mental to sell today

Saying that most of us bought below todays prices still anyway.

Under 12 months old and one delivery miles other 2.5k might be the reason why they were priced so high back then :ROFLMAO: if I recall the delivery mileage example sold for circa £42k in the end

You could be right. About being mental to sell today. It is a rare-ish Porsche and regarded as one of the better driving machines they have produced in recent years. Not exactly a big issue though as you point out, many of us won't lose money and at best it is only a few grand either way. Might be a very different story for a lot of GT and air cooled cars.

Not it sure if I am talking myself out of selling having just read that!

 
when i bought my Spyder with 5500on the clock in december 2013 i paid 41500 for it. i could have bought a newish 981 for that money. what would that be worth now or in 14 months when it will be time for me to have a change. i would prefair to be were i am now with my 2010 10500 mile manual Spyder. when i swap my car it is because that is what i do not because i wish to update to a newer model Porsche. its a sickness

the 987/2 spyder will i have no doubt become one of Porsches all time great cars, it just take a bit of time and the 981 Spyder to blow over. i am sure the 981 Spyder will be a super car to own but my honest opinion is that over time it will be seen as a soft option copy of one of the best cars Porsche has ever made the 987/2 Spyder.

as for prices well it is coming to winter when all slows down but come spring when the sun is out and all those 981 Spyder people have their new toys there will be a new colection of would be Spyder owners out there who may see the 987 as a cheeper version of the 981 and a bargain at 40 plus as i am sure it is, well thats my opinion for what it is worth

 
Will be interesting to see how it all unfolds. I don't see the 987 and 981 Spyders as alternatives and don't think the value of one will affect the other (other than the supply of one increasing as a consequence of people selling up to buy the other).

I don't personally see the 987 as hardcore. Therefore whilst the 981 might be more refined, the only difference for me in hardcore-ness is that one has the roof attached. Both require you to pull over and get out to put the roof up. Both have loads of comfort options.

I think the original has the advantage of being the original and I will always like the 987 Spyder as the original concept - anything afterwards will be a misinterpretation of that concept because it has changed in some way. As Spyderwhite says, I think it really depends on how the collectability of a non-911 Porsche unfolds over time. We're into new territory for the 987 i.e. the reason it is being sold, who will buy it given they have another option, how to people feel about its future (we've seen a lot of confidence buying because prices were solid so cheap motoring a year or 2 or 3, but do people still feel that way). Or does the collectability overcome all that and the demand for these cars remain strong, like a collectable 911, rather than being forgotten as new models come in. For example, if more brilliantly spec'd cars like Geoff Lane's GTS were available, it may make the 987 forgotten, or may not depending on the collectability factor. I don't know which i'd choose between that and a 987 Spyder if it was my own money right here right now. But if I was collecting i'd take the 987. Let's see if people are ready to collect. (If I owned a 987 Spyder right now I wouldn't sell it unless I wanted to try something new because it's a great car. But guessing that most people currently selling are to try something new, they're not attached to the car in a collector's way, are they, so we haven't really seen a collector's passion for the car yet perhaps?)

Not saying who's right or wrong, just saying it's hard to predict.

 
I have sold 3 or 4 cars to try something new, always been a mistake.

This time I say to myself "The Spyder does what I want it to do, why change" hence I modded it to make it how mine is today, but it can be put back to full oem if the prices do go up and some one wants a org car.

It's not hardcore, but it is a more analog driving experience over any 981 how ever great or faster the new ones are.

No new Porsche will ever feel like that again, and while people say a 1970's 911 is even more analog as an example, prices and rot keep me away from the old stuff now, lets face it to restore a early 911 is £100k to do it right and now it's £80k for a donor ! so the figures now don't add up for a 911E even less so for a T and the S models , well daft money.

the 987.2 car is really a nice sweet spot, has a clutch :) a real diff, real shocks and of course steering as sweet as a nut plus roof off is always a great feeling esp at night.

Hence why I harp on about people moving away from PDK 987.2's they don't really sit any where or suit the car and I guess why in the past we have seem the bigger % of people come and go here with PDK cars.
