Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

Can anyone confirm please on the 981 - Does the Garnet red leather extend to the dashboard, upper door strips and sides of gearbox tunnel or just the seat sides / ie everything that is red !

The optional Spyder Classic interior package means that the legends live on in the new Boxster Spyder. The predominant feature in the interior is Garnet Red leather – based on the colour that caused a stir in the historic Spyder models – and then contrasting with that, black Alcantara like in motorsport.

That's an interesting review - it's more a boring monologue about how the new Spyder isn't how he would have designed it, rather than what it's like to drive. I really have no interest in reading so-called reviews from journalists who clearly resent the fact that they didn't get to design the car themselves!

Judging by this picture, it's certainly leather on the dash and doors, because you can clearly see the stitching. Not sure about the centre tunnel:

PDK seems to have been sorted for the mid engine 3.8L 981 now [:D]

New race car for motorsport newcomers

Suttgart. Using the lightweight Cayman GT4 as the basis, Porsche Motorsport has developed a near-standard racing version. The Cayman GT4 Clubsport celebrates its world premiere at the Los Angeles Motor Show on 18 November. Sales of the 283 kW (385 hp) mid-engine racer for motorsport newcomers also start on this date.

Just like its race-worthy production sibling, the Cayman GT4 Clubsport is powered by a 3.8-litre flat-six engine. The racing version features a Porsche double clutch transmission with shift paddles on the steering wheel and a mechanical rear-axle locking differential. The lightweight suspension strut front axle is taken from its big 911 GT3 Cup brother, which is campaigned in Porsche’s 20 one-make championships around the world. The impressive racing brake system is fitted with steel brake discs all round measuring 380-millimetre in diameter. Tipping the scales at just 1,300 kilograms, the Cayman GT4 Clubsport, delivered ex-works with a welded-in safety cage, a racing bucket seat as well as a six-point harness, is truly lightweight.

Orders for the new Cayman GT4 Clubsport can be made at Porsche Motorsport in Weissach, or from Porsche Motorsport North America for the US market. For 2016, homologation is planned for race series such as the Pirelli World Challenge, the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge, the Pirelli GT3 Cup Trophy USA, the Ultra 94 GT3 Cup Challenge Canada and for club races run by the Porsche Club of America as well as for other club-level meetings around the world.

Will be interesting IF a road-going Clubsport or RS is launched with the double clutch transmission. That'll set the cat amongst the pigeons with current GT4 buyers. I note they haven't called it PDK though.

 
Let's see what owners actually think of the cars, Porsche now seems to be using PDK-S in it's track orientated cars.

I can't quite get my head round a sports car that does 87mph in second with 4 more gears in the box!

There is less of a need for an auto, you literally appear to only need the first 2 gears driving in the UK?

 
GT4's that are coming to market now showing a completely mental premium of circa £25-30k retail so are the dealers splitting this 50/50 with the sellers [&:] and will they find new homes quickly!

Yes there'll be people who prefer manual and all is well, but for those who would have opted for PDK if it was available, well I guess they can always trade up to the RS if that turns out to be PDK.

I'm not pushing PDK, but it is amusing that Porsche will say why they chose a particular transmission and then people buy into that reasoning and then Porsche will do the opposite on another model. It's not until they launch an RS (IF they launch a Cayman GT4 RS) that you find out what they've developed but left on the shelf for the grand finale. As per 991 GT3 and GT3 RS.

When I say cat amongst the pigeons I mean some people selling up to buy the next latest and greatest, whether that be for the transmission or weight stripping or uprated brakes or whatever the RS has had enhanced on it.

It is one of those PTS cars .......I have some Yellow Bollards out side my office do you think you could match it to my new Spyder

We are going to see a lot more colour variants this time around unlike the all White and a limited number of Silver .Black. Red .1 Blue we have with the current Spyders

I think that the brighter colours seem to suit the 981 well.

Those photos in yellow and red seem to show the lines better.

on another matter, pity you cannot see seat style in that yellow car as there is a never ending stream of rumours regarding delays on the various bucket seats.
