Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

ORIGINAL: kitchens Now down to one Porsche and the daily transport is the Free Bus Pass [:D]and the Skoda Fabia TSI. This makes the Spyder my 12th Porsche since 1992 I wish i was the kind of person who could keep a car for years and years always admired some people who you meet at shows and say they have had the cars for 20+ years . In my 50 years of driving yes i am that old i must have had in excess of 150 cars some company rep mobiles in that tally .
Hi Brian Hopefully, the Spyder will be the car to change you keep it a long time[:)] If in years to come the bucket seats get too much, rather than change the car give me a shout and we can book into an OPC and swap the seats over[;)]. I will be wanting to swap my sports seats to buckets when my son is older.

Unfortunately we have heavy snow again as i had planned to take it out tonight to the launch meeting of the Cayman ,but that is not going to happen . Having only driven it on the test drive and the 50 mile trip back home the seats are actually very comfortable ,not sure how it will feel on a really long journey but see no problems .I drove the Panamera from my house to the dealership on the day of the hand over and that was the worst seat i have sat in for ages.so harsh mind you you dont want to be fiddling around with buttons when you are on the move so possibly could have found a better position .I like the sport seat and had the car had them i do not think it would have put me off the car .Perhaps when i get to the zimmer stage might look to swap you . Daro911 where did you get that cover from was it home made or a manufactured one

New page deserves a picture. So with the talk of black cars and body colour trim, here's one of the OPC cars currently for sale[:)]

This painful wait will make the first dry drive all the more sweeter[:)] Have you had a go at removing the hood?

Yes ....seems simple enough even on your own ,the instructions in the hand book are a little vague as to how it is done best to follow the one in the You Tube with the guy taking it on and off in a showroom not the one showing the motoring journalist doing it a bit slap dash for me well seeing its not his car .I was told by the dealership it is best to keep the scarf bit just folded and laid flat in the boot instead of rolling it up and in the compartment , and will save getting the plastic creased It takes up no space at all and i have soft bag to place it in. Will practice it a few times as i live in Scotland and not south of France i think it will be up a lot .Has anyone just driven it with the shower cap on and no scarf or will this cause more turbulence and noise inside the cabin . Brian Away out to admire it again have it now on a C Tek trickle charger .

I got it off the shelf and it fits like it was tailor made £41.42 from these guys http://www.classicadditions.com/car-covers/outdoor-car-covers/waterproof-half.html

I have over Christmas/January as my roof had never been on and I thought I would make sure it was all OK I never fitted the scarf just the Sun Cap and it was a lot of fun. Very little wind/draught back into car but the exhaust sounded even louder than usual Even at the speed limit on one windy day the actual roof was very silent and completely rattle free unlike my daily driver Mini As long as you are moving or when stationary as long as wind is blowing in right direction the rear scarf isn't essential But the hardcore boys flat6 & RK can confirm exactly whats what as they do use their tops unlike me [;)]

Will possibly invest in a cover the reason is mainly if i stay overnight at some point and it pours at least it will give protection to the original hood ,though i believe the hood will be up to the mark . Just back in from cleaning the wheels a doddle compared to the 17" that was on the last car so easy to get to the insides with out cutting your hand to ribbons on the discs .had a good look over it in the day light and have to say apart from 2 tiny marks the size of a pinhead on the front end the car is as new even the underside is immaculate . I know cars are to be driven not just looked at but it nice to see one in this condition. Cant wait till this weather changes and get a few miles on it. Just a comment the wheels would be nicer if they had have had a shinier look as opposed to the mat like finish that is on them. Brian

The Cayman R and the 981's come with that look and it's really nice too

I too was told not to roll up the rear scarf, so I do just lay it in the rear boot as well. Oddly enough, you get much less turbulent wind noise without the rear scarf in place. Obviously you've removed a fair chunk of sound proofing so it isn't quieter but it's more like the sound you get with the roof off, instead of getting turbulence noise. When travelling at motorway speed I guess the noise is more pleasant than with the scarf in place as turbulence is variable and so more distracting, but as I say, it's not quieter as you've traded one type of noise for another. Weather permitting, it's the best way to roll on the motorway and I also prefer it to leaving the car fully open if i'm leaving the car somewhere it may attract malicious attention if left fully open.

Great spec Spyder but worried the extra stripes may have invalidated the paint & corrosion warranty :ROFLMAO:
This one has now gone. Hopefully the new owner got them to remove the side stripe extensions. Was a good spec car though. So, now we're back to one, again. Could this be the one to shift quicker than it takes for another to arrive and get us to zero? Can't fault the car, so I don't see why not.

Red instrument dials don't do it for me. Maybe on a red car, just about but even then I may take some persuading! Those wheels look nice on it though.

I believe there may be one more to surface at the OPC it is the white one i saw at Newcastle 2010 8K miles PDK glad now i did not go for it even with its new front refresh . More than happy with my new car and like the red one .. which do go faster [;)] Black i could not live with had a 996 C4 and a nightmare to keep clean and shows up every mark even when it was cleaned . Brian

My 996 C4 was Lapis Blue. It nearly sent me over the edge. Until then, I had always been able to look after my own cars nicely. With that, the swirls slowly sent me crazy and I couldn't get rid of them without professional help! It's just another reason I love my white Spyder - if it isn't completely swirl free, at least with white you can't see them!

its almost my perfect spec-i love black!! sadly my back doesnt love the buckets so i am after the heated sports seats.(and linda wont let me get one without heated seats!) otherwise spot on. am starting to think one is not going to be up for sale with that spec though so may have to go with alternative.........

I was over that same edge with Boxster number 4 Lapis Blue after 3 Silvers it was time for a change Never cleaned and polished a car so much in my life [&o]

ORIGINAL: dyllan To be fair Linda loved the mahogany cayman but is a bit fed up having 2 schnauzers on her lap whenever we go out in the box(as was in the cayman) so is rather keen to have seats for the doggies in the back so she can travel unencumbered:) plus she likes the big sunroof Personally,I will be quite happy to get back in a 911
Decision decisions[:)]. Do you reckon you'll go 2-seater or 4-seater in the end Dylan?

ORIGINAL: rob.kellock Same wheels too. At least they were easy to clean!
That wheel was not only easiest to clean but also one of the greatest Porsche designs ever even the 458 mimics it today Also looks seriously light too

I guess the truth is I would like a 991 everyday and a black Spyder for weekend fun !!! I don't think there will be enough for both after the poole rebuild though so......
