Congratulations Brian. It was a pleasure being involved in your hunt. You moved fast and got yourself a brilliant car. It's got all the essential options and the cosmetic additions of red dials and rollover hoops finish it off nicely. Barely used is a bonus too! Makes me realise, if other potential buyers are registering their interest with OPC's, there may be other cars selling without needing to be advertised. The market is bubbling under the covers too. Enjoy the car and as the new Spyderman, it's on your shoulders to give us some insight into getting to know the car. Us who have had ours a while can't remember back that far. We just hoon around now[:D]. Might help others make their mind up whether it is right for them[:)]

I may activate the VTS which is £200 a year to do but on the other hand if it is stolen would i really want it back ??/ Brian

My car has the VTS but I wouldn't want it back so its not been activated As your car is one of the very last made and registered I would consider something like "BW61 SPY" as that "61 " is something definitely worth advertising IMO Just checked and once again your luck is in £699 and available [link=http://dvlaregistrations.direct.gov.uk/search/results.html?search=bw61spy+&action=index&pricefrom=0&priceto=&prefixmatches=&currentmatches=&limitprefix=&limitcurrent=&limitauction=&searched=true&openoption=&language=en&prefix2.x=95&prefix2.y=40]http://dvlaregistrations.direct.gov.uk/search/results.html?search=bw61spy+&action=index&pricefrom=0&priceto=&prefixmatches=&currentmatches=&limitprefix=&limitcurrent=&limitauction=&searched=true&openoption=&language=en&prefix2.x=95&prefix2.y=40[/link]

And those ultra clean wheels show that the silver ones are also painted with the same grey on the inner rim, as when the wheels are painted black. So it's not to save black paint then [:D] No doubt rob will be impressed with your 'crest to valves'. I really need to sort mine out before he sees my car again[:D] The 981 Caymans' prep failed his inspection miserably in that regard[:D]

The problem i have at the moment is i have 2 numbers on retention BDW 2 L Brian David Wood and 40 BWK Brian Wood Kitchens and to buy BW 61 SPY would need to leave on the car at least with the others i can put them on any car . Yes the crests are facing the correct way did not even have to ask, the valeter knew the correct position

But Brian you will never be selling the car it's a keeper so the price will be down to a few pounds per year of ownership someday decades away[8D]

Well done Brian. Looks absolutely fabulous. Only thing that lets it down is the plate (did the last owner like roll ups?) but clearly you have a couple of good alternatives. Crest to valve nice to see after the shock of the new Cayman!! Had a little spin out in mine this morning with my son and having just spent 200 miles in a lovely new 981 you will be pleased to know that you have bought the more satisfying drivers car. Enjoy!!

Thanks for the nice comments ..yes it is stunning in red . Sold the 356 last year it was a show winner won numerous trophies it too was well admired .Will need to change the Avatar to the Spyder . Now down to one Porsche and the daily transport is the Free Bus Pass [:D]and the Skoda Fabia TSI. This makes the Spyder my 12th Porsche since 1992

Well done Brian and a special welcome from me another Red Spyderman![:D][:D] Your car looks fab and I recall in an earlier post someone saying a Red one was coming into Edinburgh in Red With 1500 on the clock. When I read that I thought not possible since mine when I purchased it (less than a month ago) had only don 1450. Not had much chance to drive mine since I have been in Far East and just packing to come home. Now I've been dying to say this for a while on this thread but thought I may need some backing. I think Spyders look ten miles an hour faster in RED![:D]

:ROFLMAO:[;)][8D] What do you think about when picking a car colour? The opposite sex, safety, or maybe even fashion trends. Well, did you know it costs more to insure a red car over any other colour – but why? Do they go faster? Well, we can confirm that’s an urban myth, but the colour red represents something very clear about your personality…normally associated with danger, excitement, passion, fire, love and…speed. But does our car colour really say something directly about the person we are? Could it not just be a colour. A survey released last month by PPG industries, a global industrial manufacturer across the car and aviation industry, says that the most popular European consumer car colour in 2011 was black (26%), second was white (19%), third was silver (16%), fourth was grey (15%), fifth was blue (9%), and sixth was red (7%) – the rest of the colours chosen were either greens, natural colours, shades of gold, or bespoke sprays. In short, the majority of Europeans chose neutral and plain colours, with the most popular brighter colour choices, either blue or red. How do we pick a car colour? It is rather apt that the most popular car colour of choice during these tough financial times is black – associated with death, evil, formality, and power, as well as white – associated with goodness, purity, perfection, and charity. While there are a number of factors that enter our brains when we are deciding what car colour to get, from our mood, marital status, stage in life; not to mention each of our individual personality characteristics and tastes – it seems that during these times of financial instability people purchasing cars wanted a simple and austere colour – but why would that have any bearing on the financial state of play? The AA believe that re-sale value is one of the first reasons behind picking a car colour. We need it to be seen to be desirable, therefore we pick a neutral and simple colour, this theory also works at the top end of the market. “For example a Ferrari in any colour other than red may be less desirable,” an AA spokesperson told Humans Invent. “If you choose the wrong colour, you might find it harder to sell at the best price when you come to sell it on,“ with price differences between the same Ferrari models in different colours reaching up to £4000. This would explain why the majority of Europeans opted for safe and neutral colours that wouldn’t deter anyone from buying their car in the future, particularly if they might have to sell it during the current financial climate. The market for a Ferrari isn’t comparable across the board, as people don’t just pick red Ferrari cars because they’ll be good for depreciation, they pick them because of their history, engineering prowess, and effortless style. But is there a reason why Ferrari aligned itself with the famous rosso corso – ‘racing red’? And therefore because of this connotation there must be a certain type of person that is drawn to red cars – traditionally we would associate the thrill seeker with a red motor – or is it simply a cry for help? Is a bright red car a cry for attention? Psychologist Dr Ingrid Collins, consultant psychologist at the London Medical Centre explains to Humans Invent that red plays a huge part in everyday life – signifying danger, and by association excitement: “You notice in nature – we are animals after all – the animals who need to attract the most attention are the ones with the brightest fur or plumage.” In the animal kingdom to have the brightest plumage can make all the difference, with the pecking order within groups of animals changing depending on colour – therefore could this be the case with people who purchase red cars? Do we suddenly put a Ferrari owner on a pedestal? Ferrari have associated themselves with an exciting colour that embodies speed and fun, that matched their ambitions to be at the pinnacle of motorsport with Formula 1 – it is now strange to imagine a red Ferrari not being the norm? While it’s easy to think that those picking bright shades of red are only doing so to attract attention, Dr Collins isn’t convinced that’s the main reason: “It’s actually done more for themselves I think. Colour is the name we give to the visible chunk of the electromagnetic spectrum of energy. Colour has wavelengths or frequencies – it’s a form of energy just as heat and sound, and so we’ve found that different colours boost different types of mood, or different sensations of physical well being.” With that in mind, it is possible that your car could have an impact on your mood, in addition to being a reflection of your personality. Dr Collins believed that the car user who picks red are “buyers that want to be seen to sporty or energetic, it might not necessarily be just a cry for attention.” Colour influences moods While the colour you pick, says a lot about you, it can also have an impact on those around you, with colours found to have an impact on behavioural patterns. “A few years back,” Dr Collins says, “there was a school that decided to do an experiment; one week they asked the children to come dressed all in one colour, and the next week another colour, and the next week another colour. They found it was quite significant – the changes in the behaviour of the children with the different colours. Different colours have been shown over time, to boost different aspects of human activity. It’s a fascinating area.” So while red cars don’t go faster, If nothing else, it certainly seems like the owners of red cars will be the ones trying to get ahead, while it’s also a great colour to give you a boost and have a little bit of fun. But what does it mean to buy a blue car, or another colour? “If they want to be calm, then blue is the better colour,” Dr Collins tells Humans Invent. And if you genuinely want the world to think you’re full of confidence? “If you’re feeling generous or outgoing, white is the colour of choice!” The psychology behind picking colours is influenced by a number of factors, and we are certainly seeing consumer habits change during difficult financial times, one thing we can settle on is – red cars don’t go faster – it does seem though, their owners have a lot more fun.

Very interesting find daro. Red is the only colour I thought I wouldn't get when I was looking for the Cayman, because of what I thought it'd say about me. Then the right spec car came up in red and I took the plunge. Have liked red ever since but I do think it made me a bit concerned that others may think its to say "hey look at me" and so the article is right I think. But John is the only one who went out specifically seeking red, so he must be the thrill-seeker among us[;)]:ROFLMAO:

Good morning fellow Spydermen and followers of this thread ..I agree RED is a least 10mph faster a known fact [:D] Not much chance to prove it today with heavy snow on the ground ...so i guess it is a day for cleaning it again as it had a dirty bottom when it came home yesterday so it was washed ,and got to keep those wheels clean at least with 19" you can get your hands in to clean then especially the fronts . I have the original invoice for the car when first advertised at the dealership it was £54600 it was agreed when they first came out they where too expensive .So hopefully most have settled down to around the £35-£40k mark and come the summer demand will increase as well as the price .I dont think anyone on here bought it as an investment retirement fund more for its exclusivity . Brian

After a couple of days with the red Cayman I didn't care what anyone thought (except when they thought it was a Ferrari[&:]) and decided it was the best colour for a Porsche. But then my white one is definitely faster than my red one:ROFLMAO: Now I have 2 favourite colours[:)]

I've always loved Guards Red. Not that I intend to run the car in Concours events but, if you look back over the History of PCGB National Concours I think you will find that the vast majority of winner have been Guards Red. If parking on slightly uneven ground as often required in concours always park with the nose pointing down. [:-]That will give you ten points from the judges as its first impressions that always count. PSP. Guards Red does not suit all Porsche models ie IMHO 356 is a classic case

I agree Brian, it's all about the exclusive driving capabilities and looks. Compared to exclusive 911's like the 997 Speedster & GT3 it's a bargain and I think that will influence its future value, whatever that turns out to be. On public roads it's plenty fast enough for fun on a twisty road & I reckon an average driver would struggle to hustle more speed out of a 'faster' car in that scenario. I guess that's why some who sell them then return.
