Happy New Year everyone !

Does anyone know how many RHD's are being produced?

That the big question![8|]

All I know is that we have 34 Porsche Centre throughout the UK.

So if on average, and this is only a guesstimate, each had an original allocation of 3 cars and a further 1 allocated we are under 140.

Anyone one else want to have a go?

Mayfair claimed to have had "8" Spyders allocated and 15 GT4's!

987 Spyders with manual gearbox roughly 150 examples of which probably 100 were ordered by customers and the rest were dealer speculation/allocation

981 Spyder market because of the 3.8L engine and more acceptable manual folding roof system and only one gear box option offered I would guess circa 135-150 cars which might explain why the 3 used examples at £10k above list price are well and truly stuck with their 3 dealers today - The Spyder demand has been 100% satisfied by the original allocation this time around

Took my car to the French Alps a couple of weeks ago. A lack of snow meant it could go across passes which normally would of been closed at this time of year. Winter wheels and tyres on, no chains taken. Roof off for some of it (most of the journey back!). Not sure if the images will work. Hats off to you, sir! I've only attempted to do anything like this in the summer - the views must be even better with clear crisp air, and snowy peaks.

Top job Tyinsky....

I'm currently planning a spring trip to the Spa Classic (to include some track action) then down to the Porsche museum, Black Forest drive and onto the Swiss Alps.

It's mid May, so hoping for an early thaw so I can get up on the high passes.

hope to see some blue skies like you [:)]

Had the Spyder out in the rain today to get a few more "running in" miles on the clock. I have now done just over 750 miles so am starting to use a few more revs and stronger acceleration. If I remember correctly the handbook recommends a "running in" period of 1800 miles but I am working towards 1000 as a reasonable point to start to use all of the revs. I know some people think the quickest cars are those that were driven like they have been stolen from day one but I am not sure about the longer term impact on the engine with that approach. I suspect they will be cars with higher oil consumption.

Anyway, the performance feels pretty good and the increased torque over other Boxster models is definitely noticeable. You can make pretty swift progress without exceeding 4/5000 rpm. To my surprise I have found that I enjoy using the Sport Plus mode. The rev matching facility with the sports exhaust on never fails to bring on a smile. Childish you might say but good fun.

One thing I noticed today with the very wet roads is the effect on the reversing camera. When I got home and went to reverse into the garage I could hardly see anything on the PCM screen, the camera lens was covered in spray which severely limited the image available.

Terry these Spyders are dry weather usage only otherwise rear camera would have a wiper system :ROFLMAO:

Iin the meantime how does your 981 stack up against the 991 manual

Well worth it. Roads were empty for the most part.

Hopefully you will be lucky. There was one run I started on my last day which was wet with fog and poor visibility. Was starting to worry that I'd made a mistake as no point driving roads like that and not being able to see anything - then as I got higher it cleared, was low cloud - completely clear above it.

And to think there used to be arguments about air conditioning ruining the set up of the car. :) Nice to read there are others getting used and enjoyed.

Good question Robert. I still haven't used the full performance of the Spyder but I would say there is probably not much between them in absolute terms but the Spyder has a more lively feel to it. The 991 is a great sports car but it is also a good GT car for touring purposes. The Spyder has more of a fun feel to it and tends to bring out the hooligan in you! The noise levels in the Spyder, although not unreasonable, would make it more tiring on a long drive. The gear change on the Spyder is amazing, everyone has already said it, but it is real pleasure to go up and down the box. The gear change in the 991 is nowhere near as bad as you read about, in fact it's quite acceptable, but the Spyder is way better. One thing I have noticed with the Spyder is that the brakes feel slightly over servoed compared with any other Porsche I have driven. Porsche brakes are always good but normally require a reasonable pedal pressure which helps with heeling and toeing but the Spyder brake pedal needs a lighter touch.

Only another 100 miles to go now and I will call it "run in" see what it's like using the last 2000 rpm!

Nice technical stuff here

Interesting how the engine is described as a GTS 3.8l rather than as a detuned 991 S!

[link=http://www.ebsracing.com/design/design-ebs-racing-bootstrap/porsche-downloads/2016-Cayman-GT4-Technik-Introduction.pdf]http://www.ebsracing.com/...chnik-Introduction.pdf[/link]

Porsche will not say it's a 911 detuned engine will they lol Sounds better to say a Cayman 3.4 GTS uprated to 3.8 , they need to state "increases" not talk about detuning !!

My Spyder lock down date is fast approaching ( 12/1/16) and i cant decide what combo to go for or if i have missed any must have options!?

White - [link=http://www.porsche-code.com/PGKPGE36]http://www.porsche-code.com/PGKPGE36[/link] Red - [link=http://www.porsche-code.com/PGGWQ5F1]http://www.porsche-code.com/PGGWQ5F1[/link]

I dont track the car and it will be a fun/weekend car for me. I am still in two minds whether to keep my white 987 Spyder and if i do, then i will have two white Spyders!! :/

Help!!

Phil
