Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

The spec of the white car appeals the most to me even though I don't care for white! If you don't intend to track the car, why spend a load of cash on ceramic brakes? Wouldn't the standard brakes be adequate for normal non-track use?

 
Nice dilemma to have Phil. Irrespective of the colour not sure i would go for the the PCCB for a 'weekend' car. Can I ask when you put down your deposit (for comparative purposes) as I am still waiting on my OPC for lockdown ?

go white and add Cruise control for the £267 dont forget the red door pulls no cost option

PCCB are a nice option as if NOT tracked should last 100k miles, people get a bit confused on PCCB and state track, but you tend to find the track boys wants steels.

 
Picked mine up yesterday :) Awesome car.

I added as extras the alcantara to the storage compartment lid and the rollover bars in the exterior colour...both look good

I don’t really use cruise control so didn’t include it. Nor do i use the phone module when out in the car but seen on other threads this is a must have?! Red door pulls are ok but it may look a bit red inside with all the red stitching and red seat belts. I have never owned a car with PCCB and hopefully with the Spyder not going to loose too much over time, this seems a good time to try these... However i agree this could just be a silly decision!

Panachegrp - you should upload some images, guessing GT Silver from your profile pic?

Woodstock - Deposit was paid in November, i had the final slot at my OPC.

I dont track the car and it will be a fun/weekend car for me. I am still in two minds whether to keep my white 987 Spyder and if i do, then i will have two white Spyders!! :/

Phil once you have lock down your dealer can print you off his computer the tracking schedule planned & expected delivery dates



My car has been bought forward 3 weeks and a friend getting same PTS got put back approximately 3 weeks and guess what both Spyders are coming down the line holding arms & legs :ROFLMAO: - Must save Porsche a fortune not having to clean out the spray gun after doing just one car when they can now do 2!

I have PCCB's on my Boxster GTS and they are the best brakes on any car I've ever owned and that includes my GT3RS and Turbo S which both had ceramics not sure if its because the car is lighter but they are fantastic and I would say do it ! Mr D is right most regular track goers use steels.

If you spec them make sure when you need to stop quickly you look in your mirror because its guaranteed the guy behind cannot stop as quickly as you !!

So, drive the car at 70 or 80mph and the roof blows off? Has that happened to anyone here? Mine has been driven many times with the roof on (it is almost always on), with and without that rear section in. I have even driven it at the car's top speed with the roof on. That it comes off is utter, utter nonsense. There is an urban myth about a top coming off on a US journalist around the launch. If this is true (I doubt anyone will to be able to find any evidence of it) then it would of been down to the roof not being put on correctly. My own suspicion as to why the manual says 124/125mph max with the roof on is because of the decibel levels inside the car and the potential to cause hearing damage. I have a box of earplugs in the glove compartment. [font="comic sans ms,sans-serif"][font="comic sans ms,sans-serif"]"[/font]It’s less extreme than the last one though – sensible compromise or Porsche losing its bottle and opting for a more style over content approach?[font="comic sans ms,sans-serif"]"[/font][/font] In what way?! It has a 911 engine in it, a lot more power, only available as a manual, is more aggressive visually, and the roof is still a get out of the car faff (OK, the roof makes even less sense now but I expect that is lost on most people). I've also seen written that the car is not far behind the GT4, and in some ways more special. The GT4 being described as 'a masterpiece' by EVO (more hype!) and the Spyder either a sensible compromise or style.

as I previously mentioned my 987 roof came off when I was doing around 70mph; soon after there was a recall which provided an additional fitting to keep the roof on; mine was an early car and newer cars had the fitting as part of the build.

Luckily mine must be a later car then. Roof could of bought down a small aircraft with a 160mph tow. 😀

 
Good spec choices, the only comments I would make to the white car spec is to add cruise and go for climate control rather than the basic air con. With PCM, which gives you sound pack as standard, I wouldn't bother with Bose. Spyders are not the quietest of cars and I think it is difficult to hear any real benefit from the Bose.

 
Lots of good stuff being posted with the new Spyder owners now taking delivery.

Much talk about options, now I know we are all different and some like more goodies than others.

But, has anyone taken delivery and an found an option that has not lived up to expectation?[8|]

The air con doesn't get anywhere near as hot as in my 987 Spyder, a bit rubbish if you want to drive it on a cold, crisp winter's day (not that we've had many of them this year!). Not sure if the climate option would be better.

The roof (as suggested by tyinsky) isn't as good as the last one IMO and is just as much of a faff. All the reviews saying that the new roof is an improvement show how much journalists misunderstood the 987. It is quieter when up though, which is handy for a daily driver (mine isn't).

Sound package plus - with the top down the sound is awful. It's just as well I'd rather listen to the wonderful flat 6! I've had other convertibles where the stereo still sounded alright with the top down, so this is definitely a fail on Porsche's part.

Those small issues aside, the new Spyder is a great car and IMO is better than the old one overall. The extra room in the cabin makes a big difference for me, being 6 feet tall. The 918 Spyder buckets are also superb, I really can't understand all the talk of them being hard and uncomfortable - a must have for this car, unless you insist on having heated seats.

Having said all that, I would probably be just as happy with my old one, so all Spyder owners are on to a winner!
