Preston supercar meet this morning... various Aston, Lamborghini, Ferrari etc.

4 Cayman GT4... 1 Spyder.

and 6 people who told me I should never have sold mine 😱

That was the first 981 Spyder I have seen close up and to be quite honest I am glad I refused the offer of one from OPC Bolton, a super daily driver but unfortunately just not special enough for me to spend all my time polishing.

A Boxster with 375bhp and the heart out of a 911 3.8L not special enough are you having a:ROFLMAO: at all the 981 Spydermen[]

seems the guys who have come from Atom, Lotus and Caterham etc like the older car more as a driving machine, the newer one is def watered down, which is no bad thing if that's what you like.

I wanted it to have PDK-S and a R8 Style trick electric roof and be a cool as **** daily ride, alass for me it now does no job well, cannot go up vs the old car or GT cars as a drive, cannot go up vs the the GTS for being usable.

A great shame imo. I don't even think it looks as good as the 987.2 Spyder or a 981 GTS either ! rather a GTS and £10k in my pocket or what ever the difference is.

broken record I know, but that's how I feel, sorry

No need to be sorry, if these are your views then fine, I for one just don't happen to agree with most of them.

I find the 981 is just more fun to drive than the 987 version and that's all that matters to me.

I must look a right looney driving around in this half baked car with such a stupid grin on my face all the time [:D][:D]

Perhaps its time to create another www record breaking Spyder posting

"987 Spydermen who swapped out for the 981 Junker!" ;-)

It's a shame they couldn't improve the styling of the 981 rear end!

To me the 987 is a very pretty car, where as the 981 looks like it's going to punch you in the head !!

Lets face it, they are both different and both brilliant sports cars, which is why we all spend so much time on here talking about them [8D]

That's good to hear, thanks.

I did have some amazing adventures in that car - playing around the Evo triangle with flat6 in his sister car along with a couple of other PCGB buddies in a Cayman R and a 458 was a notable high. The best drive I ever had in it was in France though. Let's just say that an enthusiastically driven 997 turbo was a surprisingly good match for it on well sighted deserted rural roads.

Here's a couple of pics you may not have seen before - the car was just a few hours old in the last one!

Nooooooo

Phil assured me you only bought the car to take your granny to the doctors and you've been using it as a proper sports car........:ROFLMAO:

Here's another way to look at it - is your car a "he" or a "she"?

I'd say the 987 is a (very pretty) she. But what about the 981?

Don't worry, it was run in religiously, waxed with Zymol, never revved when cold and only fuelled with Shell Optimax / V-Power. But yes, I did use it a fair bit more than Phil did!

"Run in religiously" sure Dave Allen would have a reply but perhaps I'm showing my age [:)]

Interested in the consensus of who runs Optimate or equivalent ?

I've had a few cars on the rolling road and the tuners will usually say not to bother, all maps are set for 95ron and unquantified cleaning benefits ?

Are flat 6s (or their owners [8|]) any different ?

Modern ECU's will automatically adjust for the fuel rating (knock sensor, etc) so the higher the grade the more optimal the engine will run. Not to sure that about all maps being set at 95 RON, not from my experience.

In everyday life you will not feel the difference, its only say at full tilt around a track that you may/will. The additional additives in the Optimate, etc. do add to the engines internal well being, but again probably only noticeable after many thousands of miles.

I think its a case of if you can why not, but don't be afraid to use 95 RON, the exception being Supermarket fuel .........................

I disagree.

My BMW is chalk and cheese if you don't put higher octane fuel in it and I can definitely tell the difference in the Cayman too, albeit not as pronounced.

the petrol cap says use 98 ron

any way I 100% use vmax in all my cars, it was night and day in my turbo and my remapped cars have the timing increased for higher ron fuel.

Never ran 95 for the last 10 years.

Wonder if its a case of deja vu when Porsche had to modify the header rail catch on the early 987 tent (my 1st Spyder was one of them) when it suffered a similar failure by not being man enough for the job in hand!

Best to do what I did only ever travelled topless

WARNING --- I was out in the car last night. I thought the roof was totally secure and the out riggers secured correctly. I had driven it for about 15 miles at motorway speeds. I then had a chance to open her up at about 100mph one of the outriggers popped out and started banging against the boot. By the time I slowed down and stopped to look at the damage this was the result. Lesson double and triple check the out riggers are really secure. This will be an expensive
