I want to get a Ctek charger for my 987 Spyder. Can anyone just confirm I can get one that plugs into the lighter socket i.e. It's a permanent live ?

Why not wire it directly to the battery?

The Ctek comes complete with the necessary lead to do this. Just remove the panel over the battery.

Make the connections to the terminal posts.

Replace the plastic panel that covers the battery, feeding the Ctek cable through the "vents" on the cover

You now just have to connect the Ctek charger to this plug that will sit nicely under the front boot lid

Probably a 5 min job. 10 if you allow for some initial trepidation!

Yes you can get it from your OPC with cigarette adaptor already coming off the unit or you can save money buy a CTEK off Amazon and get the adaptor leads for the lighter socket

Unfortunately the 981 Spyder I have no longer has a live feed from any of the power sockets after 6 minutes of turning off the engine so i have adaptor eyelet connection on battery fed through to boot area where I then plug the CTEK into as stated its a 5 minute job

If you buy the Ctek adaptor they come in different lengths as shown in Daro's car they have eyelets fitted a tip is snip off a piece and make it into a spade like connection that way you only need to slacked off the bolts and slip them in and lighten up .In the 981 it is PITA to remove the battery cover whereas on the 987 it is 2 second job with that in mind why not buy the Lidl one at £14 it has crock clips fitted and it is dead easy as you can leave the cover off when on charge and comes with a decent length of cable to sit outside the car where you can see the charge rate .I have the Ctek on the 981 but the Lidl ones on all the other cars .The Lidl ones are on special from this Sunday I have used them for years and never a problem Do not buy from a OPC as they are the same ones that can be bought from Amazon without the Porsche badge

That is a "Top Tip", and exactly what I did. Converting the circular eyelets to a spade-type connector, by snipping out a piece of the circular metal, means that you can connect the cable supplied with the ctek to the battery without actually disconnecting the battery.

Rather than taking the cable out through the filler opening (as shown in the pic), I gently eased it through the grille part of the plastic cover over the battery compartment, so that the male end of the cable connector sits on top of the grille. Easy to get at there

it's only a 20 minute job to fit the right connector, I did it to the GT4 and it's not a hard job.

I bring the cable out the top, as do Porsche OPC's so one can close the bonnet.

a ctek MSX 5 is £60 on line. I would not trust a China copy from Lidl, every thing is built to a price.

and croc clips just mean hassle and a potential short.

would I trust a china copy Lidl £15 charger on a £90k car always on in my garage, nope.

Yes it is a permanent live. This is exactly what I've done - connect into the cigarette lighter, and the benefit if the 987 is that the trailing cable feeds nicely through the gap between the sunshade and the rear piece of roof, so all doors and bonnets are shut normally without any fear of nipping any wires [:)]

...they are TUV approved and come with a 3 year warranty and according to all the spec are imported via Germany so recon they have high import standards ...as said have been using them on Porsches for years and no problems like any product one can have faulty goods .At £14 worth even having a back up

Your choice

Do the doors /trunk/bonnet /open .how detailed is it cannot tell from the link..that link is for the 987 looks like the 981 is not available. so which one did you get

[link=https://www.minimodelshop.co.uk/diecast-model-car/porsche-boxster-spyder-2015-resin-model-car-spark-s4932]https://www.minimodelshop...-model-car-spark-s4932[/link] Sold out just like the real one .If you want one you will have to pay a premium [;)]

Its the spark one, 1.43 scale so it's pretty small.

The doors, bonnet, boot don't open, they are just good detailed small models, not like the bigger 1.18 models.

if you like small models, they are a quality brand.

I don't get any joy attaching pictures, but will put a couple up on the PH's Spyder thread.

cheers
