Anyway, I've been busy cleaning the car and now doing those little jobs that normally get left. Today I'm concentrating on the engine bay, I have polished most of the metal and some of the paintwork... alas I don't have any 'back to black' left so that will have to wait for another day. I have even cleaned the oil filler cap and dipstick... some people and their cars eh? I should have turned the car around so that the sun was fully on it, another day perhaps.
I have given the paintwork some polish but awaiting my delivery of Autobrite Chocolate glaze, I have high hopes for this product having in the past used their Enhancer product which was the only stuff to get rid of any pink easily. i have noted that some of the black paint on the cam tower has come off, so much for the engine enamel, when the situation arises I will strip this and repaint in Frost restoration Extreme Chassis paint. I have now used this product on a number of things, including my other pet subject the steam locomotive. This stuff is brilliant as are other products that I have used in their range to date. This paint is ultra-tough, can be sprayed directly onto metal (there is a primer if one so wishes) and IIRC it's rated for 650c, much better than the 150c of most engine enamels..
Now that I've brought this thread back to page one I'll post other details about the car in here as they arise.
Cheers

haha... thank you sir...I can live with the brakes.. it's not used on the track and doesn't suffer any brake fade at speed...the callipers are in good condition, discs are new and the fluid is race-spec, plus being an early car the brakes are cooled and she's lighter than the rest.. well except for the very few of her year left on the road that haven't had extra weight added, ie 'Big wheels and brakes'...blade7 said:Along with Kongs, one of the best threads in the last 10+ years.
It still needs better brakes though [].

So a copy of what was posted there...
I have given a list already of what my kids have been up to, Richard taking the lead, of course, evidently, the kids had agreed on how much each to chip in and then from what I understand Richard took things further, much further on his own. He had clearly been noting my concerns over recent monthsyears... The belts were overdue and so he changed them. The small return fuel line had cracks in it which I changed myself, Richard gave me some fuel hose to do so, but seems he wanted to be extra sure and changed the main fuel lines for some upgraded stuff... there is something written on it, I'll try to see what make they are if anyone wants to know. Then there are the 82.5 lb injectors The 044 fuel pump for which he has added an extra relay with a fuse direct from the battery. Oh and he's ordered a solid-state DME relay too He has repositioned the MAF back into the engine bay, and as I stated, all pipework has been machined smooth and painted in an epoxy chrome finish, looks great. With the new injectors, the Vitesse ECU jumpers needed switching over to match, there are 3 settings, they are currently on the lowest setting power wise but of course, with more fuel comes more power and she certainly has more than before. Drives very nicely, no more flat spot thanks to him adjusting the map. Complete service, oil and filter He removed the under bonnet dust shield (the large one below the windscreen) removed the parts under it, (removed half a tree, the offending item of which has now been cut down, orders from Richard and Pete (my eldest boys)) cleaned off the surface rust that had built up, prepped and painted. Replaced the rear brake discs and rebuilt the callipers. Stripped down and rebuilt the power steering rack, it has never felt so light and positive Fixed my driver's door handle, I had been getting in the car from the passenger's side for a few years now. I think that's about it, we then come to what the kids had agreed to do and for which we are awaiting the parts from Porsche as they closed their doors before they could ship, they had been waiting for one plastic heater clip before posting but then the virus and the doors were closed. So jobs that will be done as soon as Porsche reopen and post the parts. Replace the rear hatch seal Replace the fuel filler neck seal Strip out the interior, dash and centre console to be covered in leather, gear gaiter changed, I've had the kit for these for some time waiting for when the dash could be removed. Repair the rear headliner cover trim where the hatch opens, the liner has detached from the hardboard part that covers the roof gearing. Remove the heater matrix, check if it's clogged, fix if it is and renew all plastic parts and hopefully, for the first time in 6 years I'll have a working heater again. I'm sure that Richard may find a few other jobs to do, he has said that he's not happy with the gearbox input shaft so may change that. I don't think that he will be respraying the car yet although he has promised to do so once he has a new spray booth fitted. The wheels also need painting as they are corroded a little around the valves which is causing a small leak, very small but it does need looking at. Now, what will I be doing or have been doing... well I've spent the last couple of days polishing the car and I'll probably continue doing so until I can take her for a nice long drive... I can't wait... I hope that we can all get together for a meet soon.. keep safe guys...
I'll update this more when Richard has worked his magic once the parts have arrived from Porsche... whenever they may reopen..

The nearest shop open was waterworld the other side of Watford, I checked with the shop to see if fish food counts as essential..the answer was yes, fish and reptile food which is why they were still open...
You can guess what I'm leading too..Watford means a drive fown the A41...
First time I've been able to get out in the car and stretch her legs...my son wasn't lying...she's a beast...he had warned me to take it easy until I had got used to the jump in performance, I can see why... what I really love though is how smooth she's running, great throttle response Light steering with fantastic turn in....she really is a joy to drive.
My son had warned me that she hits the redline very quickly through the gears, he wasn't kidding, first time I launched from some lights I hit the limiter in 1st snd 2nd so quickly I felt that I hadn't even started to move...in 3rd was a true joy..I could feel the wheels trying to brake traction, something this car rarely does having so much grip in reserve. It will take me a while to get used to her, but boy will I enjoy doing it.
Going back to the shopping, we tried stopping at Sainsbury's Watford, que was crazy, took advantage of being in that location to fill the car up at the cheapest shell station locally. A tank of V-Max only costing £70 instead of the £100 before.
Went back to the original Morrison's and the two hour fiasco began.
Car is now back on the drive until the essential shop is required again in a week or two time, can't wait.

Chin up though, despite my long poor health history I've always felt my constitution to be very good.. fighting off Pneumonia 5 times proves that ..
Stay safe all...I look forward to when we can all make it to a meet....

I think we're all dying once we've passed 21 Pete, just taking our time over it. Stay safe and well. Looking forward to a meet in the not too distant future. Keep tearing up the tarmac.PSH said:I'm not dying...well I hope not....average mortality age for me is 68 .I plan to beat that by a long way...fingers crossed I'll still be tearing up the tarmac for years to come....
