Cayman GT4: Where are we up 2 now? Déjà vu Edition

I don't think it is a mess, it's just different. And the 718 GT4 hasn't always been there, it's been added recently.

Sorry Dave, I have to disagree. Every time I use it it throws up multiple identical windows - plus, what's it doing throwing up a Cayman 718 GT4 as a used car when it's not even been announced?

It still looks like a work in progress to me. Muddled thinking in the headers: for consistency why not use an abbreviated form of those used in the Configurator with Engine, Transmission and Chassis grouped together, with the rest under Options/Equipment?

Different/fresher-looking: yes. Better: ???. Mind you, the old site was long overdue an update.

As usual, just my tuppence worth of course.

Jeff

Once a car is announced it immediately appears on the used car list as well as the main site. Take the 992 for instance, I don't think any have arrived in the UK yet but the 992 generation is in the used car list too.

I suspect there are website updates going on behind the scenes ready for an announcement, but this has slipped through the protective net.

Dean,

It's been 'production standard' for as long as I can remember and has become beyond tedious...!

And probably we've still got more than a month to go before we get confirmation from Porsche let alone the 3-months before we actually see the damned thing too..!

Jeff

I got fed up with rumors, overs and shortfalls, so for my 50th birthday I have treated myself to a 911 GTS 3.8 NA last of the era cars, at least you get the amazing engine with x51, and you pay £25k below list, cannot work out why people are paying £80 to £90k on GT4 when you can buy the better 991.1 GTS for less money and get the engine the GT4 should have had.

i might even sell my GT3, the GTS feels that good. As always GT3 and the GT4 don’t make the best road cars, it,s more about lifestyle and pose value these halo cars unless you live on track, but being forced to play games or worse pay crazy overs for cars which are pretty poor road cars seems daft.

GTS will easy do a few track days after my little geo tweets also. But this engine is wonderful, the engine every one wanted the GT4 to have.

I also got into my deal a change of tyres from p zero to PS4s , so you GT4 boys better keep your eyes on your mirrors at the next track day :p

Dont get me wrong , at list GT cars are amazing, but getting one these days seems impossible. I cannot see a 420bhp 4.0 being any better when the 4.0 should have 500hp ! when the GtS and the current race GT4 stuck with a tuned 3.8 which makes power till red line And I see the GT4 is now racing well.

Again good luck to anyone who can secure a GT4 at list, but it's not the b all end all if you cannot get one, there are loads of great cars out there below list to own.

I think the NA GTS lump is one of the best, I will be using it fully as a daily also, none of this low mile garage queen crap Which seems to effect Gt values.

I thought i was done with Porsche, but after looking at R8, BMW CS, Aston and Lotus, it's very hard not to choose a Porsche, it’s just trying to find one that fits your needs.

I wish I would have got the GTS earlier, but I have been lucky enough to get the GT4 and my GT3 at list and have been stuck in the games, happy to be out of it now and have an engine that sings rather than throttled. Although the latest GT3 engine has to rank as one of the best ever made imo, makes the mezger look/feel Very dated.

Lets hope the new GT4 does get a tuned x51 3.8 over a headline making detuned 4.0 !

Or or I should say let’s hope it’s dont as I would want it :)

i did plan to do a tuned GT4 project, but the prices never dropped which I found odd to values I would be happy to get in one again Ie low £60's, for me that’s all I see the worth in these at 4 years old, over a fully speced 911 GTS at £80k.

I look look forward to Chris W engine mods as I hear he might be tuning his at last.

I do have a soft spot for Porsche mid engine cars , but they never get the best engines :-(

anyway sorry for the long post, have a nice weekend. :)

Good choice for roads use although I would say if you REALLY intend to run it on track, you'll find the stock iron brakes are not adequate. I got through 3 sets of front discs in a year's 15 track days and at £850 a pop (Porsche change centre lock drive pins each disc change) and that was a key reason for me to sell the car.

Well done for taking a (controversial?) sideways view D - some thought-provoking and interesting points there from someone who has experience with both the rear and mid-engined Porsches.

Happy 50th by the way and enjoy the new toy.

Jeff

It’s a early b day present as I am 50 in August :) but that’s the story I told the other half.

disks will be upgraded to 360mm 2 piece units with a more aggressive pad.

but I only do 3 track days a year and one of those will be in the GT3.

its a fast road car and will be used as such :) upgrading parts with better parts when they wear out.

the engine sold the car really, it’s wonderful and a bit more accessible than the 9k GT3 unit, but a massive step up from the GT4 unit.

all the cars have downsides which I am always upfront with, although the GT3 seems to have none bar you need to own and have access to your own race track :)

just trying to to stay away from the turbo and petrol filter cars as long as possible.

A manual 991.1 GTS is a bit of a rarity isn't it D? Even more so if you want it in its later form in which the gearchange quality was improved.

One downside could be those centre-lock wheels if you plan to do some DIY.

Jeff

Agreed D. Maybe I can see the advantage for the track-focused GT3, but for road cars like the GTS and Turbo it doesn't really make sense. Having said that, I'm sure very few owners are bothered about the fixing method as they're unlikely to want to remove the wheels themselves for whatever reason.

Nothing wrong with 5-bolts in my opinion. Fortunately it doesn't look as though centre-locks will feature on the 718 GT4.

Jeff

OMG: Have you seen the Porsche Newsroom this morning: 718 GT4 and new Spyder finally announced to have the 4T engine with 380bhp as before because of the WLTP regs. Gutted.

Errrr.. What date is it? If it's true please can you get me the link? If it's true I'm going up the pub for the rest of the day. If it's not true it had me feeling very smug for 3 minutes or so......
