Cayman GT4: Where are we up to now?

I think people were being advised today if they were successful in being allocated a car. I got a call this morning to say I have been successful with delivery likely between August and November. I know other dealers were doing the same. It took a lot of calls and email backup to get me to this position but glad the OPC eventually honored the LOI and early deposit list. I now have to review my spec and finalize. The remainder of the 10% deposit will be paid tomorrow, but no rush. I'll be happy when the order is finalized and submitted TBH!

Could be my number 1 choice for the 981 Spyder too[;)]

Congrats - I think you were thinking it wasn't going to work out that way earlier (maybe on PH?), but I'm delighted to hear your persistence has paid off and are one of the lucky ones! Assume you will get an exact factory production number and dates tomorrow too, and if that's the case I assume all dealers across the UK will be able to confirm. Will be interesting to see who else is on the definite lucky list then. What is your spec (apologies if you have already posted this). Adam

Thanks Adam. TBH I have a feeling it will be a while longer before a confirmed order is in place. I won't be 100% confident of getting a car until that happens. I'll post up my spec later. In terms of colour its Sapphire Blue, which is looking like a popular choice on this thread! Buckets are a definite as is leather (including dash) and Bi-Xenon option.Probably won't get PCM and toying with the idea of speccing the PCCB's. The rest are usual bits and pieces but have stayed away from things like illuminated sills, lighting package, etc. I think it's about £75K right now but could drop to £70K or so without the ceramics.

Clearly, the GT4 is very much a track-oriented car. I'm interested to know how many potential owners: 1) Plan to use their cars on track on a regular basis, say upwards of 3 or 4 times a year? 2) Are ex-GT3 owners or ex-996/997 owners and maybe haven't owned a mid-engined Porsche before? Jeff

Strange how the tone has changed 2 pages back you were stating that Porsche had lost a customer for life. Why not now refuse to take the car and vote with your feet ? I am happy you have one, but you joined the forum to kick off !

Oh, the irony!......

From The Classic Car Show tonight Apparently Jaguar only intended making 200 E Types, and people placed orders with several dealers in the hope of getting one - GT4 is almost de ja vu except Jaguar increased production..

For anyone who's interested, according to a post on PH Steve Fowler of Auto Express is now on the case for those peeved about the way Porsche are handling GT4 allocations, etc. Contact him with your gripes on mail@autoexpress.co.uk Jeff

Noble effort, but TBH this would have never have happened if proper market assessment had occurred and the numbers quoted upfront - too much smoke and mirrors involved by those who wear the sharp suits and the gold cufflinks.

Nah, not really. Nice try though. Here's what I posted 2 pages ago : "I am hopeful that the OPC will be sensible. If not, then they've lost a customer for life.....". Not sure which part of that sentence wasn't clear.I indicated that if I get bumped completely then I will walk. I didn't so I'm not. Also note my comment about not being 100% sure, so tone hasn't changed completely I'm afraid. I'm hoping they build over 400 for the UK in order to meet demand. Surely you as a keen driver want the same? If not why not? Like a lot of people I think Porsche should a) honour their LOI /deposit lists and b)make enough to meet demand. That view hasn't changed.

Man, there's two of you and neither one can read/understand the earlier post?!

If not why not Have to agree with Littleern on that above comment Porsche should meet the demand especially the way they are handerling allocations. Obviously money to be made why would any car maker turn that down. Meeting customer demands is key to keeping happy customers. Why would any car maker risk the loss of a customer. Cliff.

Yes I emailed him and said how nice Porsche have been and what a good experience I have had with my OPC ;-) (no joke I did send a email to that effect :) ) they have not lost any customers, they have won some and sold all the cars! And now the Cayman also has a Halo model. I am a new Porsche customer never had a new one before.... do you really think if there were 400 they would have sold out, not a chance, I have taken a few finance and lifestyle risks to get into this car knowing it was Ltd, it was a real push. A lot of people I know don't normally spend this much also, the car is really aimed at the Cayman owner who wants more. It's not aimed at the super rich who have 918's and GT3's imo they have er 918's and GT3's lol NO GT/RS has been built in high numbers that is the key to how good Porsche are that they can sell out before the car is even launched. I think the issue people have had is with the odd OPC sales man, not Porsche, we all knew the numbers 3 months ago. OPC's should not have taken 20 deposits, nothing to do with Porsche. every single brand has Halo models now which are Ltd it's proven safe money and promotes the brand, I would say Porsche will go invite only if this kicks off and that will be bad. Ferrari's go straight into collections as do most RS models now, it's a shame. the reply is more an answer to Cliff btw :).

Mr D Sorry I cannot agree people have different reasons for wanting to own a particular car. I own a GT3RS and I am very far from rich I stretched myself to buy the car nearly 2 years ago and I have been very lucky and could sell it today for a lot more than I paid for it. When I bought it (on a lot of finance) I hoped it would not loose much in value but mainly because I wanted to drive it which I have in the last 18months I have covered over 7K miles in a weekend car, its been to Le Mans, on a PCGB France tour and several club weekends. I have driven it because it is fantastic to drive but my thinking had always been if the GT4 is a manual then I would look at capitalizing on my luck to help pay off the mortgage while still having a proper drivers car. I have tried PDK and while its very good its not for me for a weekend car. I waited for the car to be announced having spoken to my OPC who said they had a number of LOI's but if PDK was not offered then a lot would withdraw. When it was announced the situation became very different which as you have said previously was my fault and only mine. However now I want a GT4 and would even pay over the odds (probably not a lot) to get a slot because it suits my particular situation. I am not taking my car on track which I always wanted to do because of the 10% excess and the value my car now stands at, my track days are in my sons Exige (Silverstone 10th March) and I'm also limiting my road mileage to protect the cars value. This is not a winge just an explanation to show that Porsche owners have very different reasons for wanting to get into a GT4. I have also bought mainly second hand but my 2nd Boxster was a new purchase and if I am lucky enough to find a way into a GT4 it will be used both on the road and on track. Just my view on the current situation and if Porsche satisfied demand then I also would be a happy bunny. Geoff
