Cayman GT4: Where are we up to now?

Pictures from Porsche Monza test of GT4, 911 RSR GTE and 911 GT3-R race cars. Looks like GT4 is much nearer race ready than previously commented on. http://danilomoroni.weebly.com/porsche-ag---test-gt.html

ORIGINAL: MrDemon less colours and big delays it seems !!!! 1ST car's if speced with buckets might not be here till NOV ! and if dealers only get "1" yes "1" build slot per month it's a crazy wait. I have a Sept build slot as I was 2nd in line and then we are told 8 weeks delay on that slot if you spec buckets ! so I get my car Dec !!!! and that's an early order !
I wouldn't sell the "R" yet then david!!!!!

Apart from the wheels and roll cage, the car looks pretty well standard Ralph - it's even got the GT4 bucket seats.! I presume that it'll debut somewhere in Europe later this year, perhaps in a round of the GT4 European Series - the Nürburgring in August maybe? Incidentally, the first race of the Series is about to start at Nogaro. Jeff PS: The PROsport Performance 981 Cayman [not an actual Cayman GT4 of course] ended up 5th after a driver change and a drive-through penalty for speeding in the pit lane, having shown a strong 4th place during the first half of the race. It clearly lacked the grunt of the Chevy Camaro front runners [426hp vs 385hp] on the long Nogaro straight but was initially a match for the BMW and Aston, so it'll be interesting to see how the actual Cayman GT4 fares against the opposition.

I'm not seeing much of a cage in that GT4 and the Porsche seats would be *way* too heavy to race - so the race version isn't as developed as you might think. Chris.

Agreed Chris....the fact that it's sporting a passenger seat is a bit of a giveaway. Given the trim level, it's probably got the full Clubsport package with the front roll cage element. They could be just using the opportunity to do some early assessments/shakedown testing. Jeff

ORIGINAL: Motorhead From a post elsewhere, it looks as though MrD has finally [??] settled on....YELLOW - Everywhere..! Jeff
Yep lol, I need a shouty colour and have a white Spyder, so yellow it is, yellow belts and yellow stitching and prob black wheels now.

Video from Monza test, some quick gear changes for a manual and does it sound like a 991 engine? https://m.youtube.com/watch?t=76&v=4VP7Ffiqpk8

Yes Ralph, sounds more like a [manual] sequential 'box to me, and maybe they've fitted a non-standard sports exhaust system. Odd that in some shots the rear PU is black but in others it's white. Different diffusers perhaps, or did they need to replace it after the minor "off" and the video shots are out of sequence? Jeff

Yep.....VERY yellow D. No problem being seen though, and the black wheels look good with the PCCBs. How much is that little lot going to set you back then? Jeff

I did all the real paper work yesterday with the show room tax £74k add £4995 if I add PCCB which I prob won't now.

Does the GT4 come with VTS as its not on the locator as standard or an option! My insurance company insists on VTS on an Porsche over £60k[&o]

Hmmm. £10k over list - but worth every penny D...? Just paint the brake calipers yellow and no-one will notice...! Jeff

Budget for another £1100 odd in that case []

I need to spec mine tomorrow. Can anyone that has already done so point me in the right direction on anything that might not be obvious just in case I miss anything, please? The basics are likely to be red with black wheels, carbon seats but steel brakes and no Clubsport. I fancy a little interior upgrade but nothing too fussy... Ian

Lucky you Ian.! It really depends upon how much you want to spend. You could go for the black leather interior with red stitching and red seat belts. I'd have the bucket seats, cruise control, auto climate control, auto dimming mirrors, the bi-xenon PDLS system, sound package plus, the 64-litre fuel tank [a 54-litre tank is standard], passenger footwell storage net, the smoking package [this has a spring-loaded cover on the centre console rather than just a hole] and the rear wing supports in black. The last four are FOC. Your red car with with black wheels - £71,065. Jeff

Thanks Jeff Yes I am lucky, it seems, although I will be nervous until the deal is done. For the record I've had my name down since May '14. Once the spec was announced I felt they'd come up with pretty much exactly the spec I would have chosen myself (no flat 4 turbos, centre locks, PDK, nannying electronics, track-only chassis, the list goes on). Your choice is close to what I've envisaged, although I may well skip the climate and the fancy headlights, though. My main choice will come in a year or two when I have to decide whether to keep the GT or let my long-term 964 RS go, I can only afford to keep one of them. Ian

A GT4 or a 964 RS.? That's a nice choice to have Ian. I have the PDLS on my Cayman and can really recommend the option, even though I don't do that much night driving. The great thing about them is that they point where you're going - very intuitive and an excellent feature on dark, twisty A and B-roads. The auto climate control just saves you having to fiddle constantly with the temperature control - just set the temperature and leave it. Whatever choices you make, it'll be a great driver's car. Good luck with your selection and keep us posted on progress. Jeff
