Cayman GT4: Where are we up to now?

ORIGINAL: Motorhead Looks good D, but I thought that you might prefer Voodoo blue [slightly darker?]. Mexico blue brakes though - where does that option come from? Jeff
done a edit for you :)

Happy with that spec when you decide to sell it to me when its 3 or 4 months old having decided the Spyders the better bet !

Put my name down for one of those as well but with my luck will probably miss out as well ! So quite happy to take your cast off !!

I note that the subject of the lightweight buckets seats has been occupying a lot of column inches in other forums: "Why can't I get them?"; "I'd never buy a Porsche GT car without them", etc. Personally I think that they're probably overpriced and overrated, especially since most of the time the car will be driven on public roads, with a very small proportion of the time being spent on track, and the standard sport seats will be more than adequate for both tasks. Those contemplating speccing the LWBs should be mindful of the comments made by a [5'9"] Swiss owner posting on P-9, although I've seen similar comments posted elsewhere: The only two things which stick out are the long gearing and the uncomfortable bucket seats. Neither really bother me, nor do they stop me from having fun with the car, they are simply two things which could be improved. The bucket seats are obviously a personal thing, but I have simply not found a comfortable enough driving position in them. I did get back pain initially, but it is gone now. The strange thing is that I had Recaro Pole Position bucket seats in my previous Boxster and did over 100'000 km with that car without ever feeling uncomfortable or getting back pain. They did not have more padding than the new bucket seats so I don't think it is the padding that is the issue. I rather suspect it is the shape of the seat and specifically that the seat base is too long. Hence you don't sit all the way back (imagine a child sitting in a too big armchair ) and don't get necessary support for the lower back. I now, with help of the footrest, push myself all the way into the seat, with the fold of the knee being almost at the front edge of the seat. This is not how it felt to sit in the Pole Position and I think it is due to the large base. Having said that, the seats have excellent side support and are of top quality. The carbon fibre looks amazing! In a later post he makes the following comments which are relevant for those planning to use the car for longer trips or as a daily driver: The GT4 is not rough and unsettled, it is however hard. Very hard. Not only from the dampers, but also from the roll-bars. These make a huge difference in road compliance and comfort. Now, where hard turns to harsh depends very much on the roads where you drive. I am blessed with excellent roads in Switzerland which are flat, even and pothole free. Of track quality, if you like. I could imagine that the GT4 becomes harsh as soon as the road surface gets more interesting The car does however ask for... no sorry, it demands your focus and concentration. I think this is due to the much stronger sensory feedback than in the non-GT cars. You simply feel every little change in the road surface, the direction of the wheels, the engine vibration, the noise, etc. It is always there and you cannot shut it off. Hence, depending on how tolerant you are, this could all become very tiresome on longer trips. The car is built like that, rubber bushings and sound deadening are gone. It is what everyone are raving about in the reviews, it is what will annoy you after a 3 hour trip The longest trip I did was 3 hours, but with a pause half-way through. You do feel a bit tired and stiff, and that is coming from someone who is very tolerant. My 991 C4S is on a different scale when it comes to comfort. It is as fast as the GT4 too. It is however no where near as sharp and direct. Road noise is not bad, but it is there. Like all other noises. Part of the sharper-and-more-direct package. Interesting comments considering the state of our UK road surfaces. Jeff

I put the reason for my GT3 being a crap road car down to the very stiff ARB's and the GT4 has GT3 ARB's, one will just have to wait and see if it works for me I guess. the GT3 did not, this may also not work for me, but it's a no risk buy, and mine seems locked in with 918 style buckets so all good. I fancy a change from my cars any way, so the R will go , the GT4 might stay or go depends. A bit of me does like the "I have a GT4" look at me I would be telling fibs if I said other wise, so I might run it till mid 2016 even if it does not ride perfect in my eyes.

I get your drift D but don't forget that the GT4 runs an active damper setup so things may not be quite as bad as you imagine. Perhaps a more road oriented tyre will help if you plan to use it as a daily drive. At least you're in the fortunate position to be able to own and drive the new car. Keep us posted on your impressions from your viewing at the PEC tomorrow. Jeff

I have planned in to buy PSS tyres and maybe even up the ride height 10mm for 8 months of the year. then CUP2's and lower ride height the other 4 months. get to sit in it in 5 hours :)

Great! Assuming that the viewing car will be fitted with them, I'll be interested to hear how the L/W bucket seats compare with those in your CR. The general complaint against the LWBs appears to be that the cushion is over-long. Jeff

If they can't prise him out of the seat and he has to take it home Rob, perhaps it's a ploy on D's part to make sure that he gets at least one LWB for his car..! Jeff PS: That Mexico Blue GT4 really does look good.

You could be right or he could be trying to spec the standard heated buckets[:D] I'm not sure that GT4 isn't in Voodoo or Maritime even[&o]

Quite possible Rob - the colour differences are very subtle and pics don't tell the whole story. There's no substitute for seeing a car in the flesh. Still looks good though. Jeff

Hi all. wow is one word, the GT4 looks stunning in real life, even VS the RS next to it the GT4 won the hearts of all people there. ok 918 seats. I have no idea what people are taking about for one ! my OH said they offer more comfort then my GT2 folding in my R, so now that's a spanner in the works for some. They are bigger/wider and easier to get in and out then my GT2 folding items also. but some people there said , these seats are not easy to get out ! again odd as they are easier and bigger then GT2 folding ones to get in and out. I would say even too big for me at 5.10 and 11.5 stone. height adjust is good on it also. so to sum up the GT4 needs 918 seats ;-) car park was a hyper car show room and very exclusive event only a few people about, so plenty of time with the car and pics. CLUTCH, ok that's hard it's 996 GT3 hard !!! gear stick , that's sweet, shorter throw and slick, spring is strong on it though, no play or slop what so ever. Every thing else was mega, it looks amazing although in white it looks flat and dull next to the yellow one. Leather is a MUST have it's plastic fantastic without as normal. esp the doors. Steering wheel is also mega being a bit smaller. any questions feel free to ask. Might change back to yellow though :) pic in next post in 10 mins, I am excited again for this car for sure.

Looks fantastic and hope one day I can get one As for colour then yellow with yellow sitching As Silverstone is only a stones throw away from me I might try and go take a look, if it's still there

ORIGINAL: MrDemon CLUTCH, ok that's hard it's 996 GT3 hard !!! WHY WOULD THAT BE IN 2015?[&o] Leather is a MUST have it's plastic fantastic without as normal. esp the doors. TYPICAL PORSCHE THEN [;)] Steering wheel is also mega being a bit smaller. BUT VERY PLASTIC COMPARED TO MY ALI SPORT STEERING WHEEL Might change back to yellow though :) WHY? RY WILL BE AS COMMON AS A WHITE SPYDER

Some are saying pre producing model ! Wonder if owners cars have lighter clutch then. Yes steering wheels centre bits are plastic, but it feels nice and is smaller and looks cool. Not fussed about common, I doubt I,ll ever see one where I live and not many seem to be ordering yellow on PH. What was a shock is white looks drab and unexciting on it, and that was my 1st choice early on.

Owners cars will have same heavy clutch pedal that's a dead cert or I will eat my suncap [:D] pre-production car or not the clutch fitted is the clutch being used on cars already sold and out and about in Euroland Are their going to be car(s) that can actually be driven by people with orders in and deposits down[&o]
