Cayman GT4: Where are we up to now?

Motorhead said:
Maybe the PEC car was pre-production D.

Anyway, glad to hear that the production example is more to your liking.

Jeff

it is a pre production and from what I saw the build quality was a bit rough!

More Cayman GT4s?

Jeff

stupid mis info as normal, they state 129 cars in total !!

as we know I told you guys there were 200 cars+ vip + pec , all that's happened is 70 more people have just got their allocation.

there are NO more cars.

there is NO PDK

Well, the mags have to keep stoking the fire D and I'm sure that Porsche are always happy to provide the fuel..!

Jeff

mine has been brought forward so should get in my hands in OCT :)

The yellow one for sale at £105k caused hassle and Porsche UK asked my OPC if it was my car !!!

It was NOT of course, I also got a few emails asking if it was my car for sale !!! annoying.

If Porsche UK find you flip a car early you can kiss good bye to any future rare model owner ship, seems they are monitoring what and who is selling and then taking it up with the OPC.

I see one OPC has a white car for sale at £105k though !

Had unexpected pleasant conversation with my OPC today, confirming a mid October build date which is a little earlier than first stated.

What is the thought of the tyres supplied for use in wet and winter conditions, thinking of another set of rims with either winter or something more standard like PZeros .

Steve,

Good to hear that that you're gettting your car earlier than expected....but unfortunately just in time for winter.!

Maybe MrD can give us the benefit of his experience on this but I wouldn't have thought that the Michelin Cup tyres - or similar - are ideal boots for winter motoring. And are winter tyres actually available for the GT4 wheel sizes?

Jeff

Hard question to answer.

I am at a point saying winter tyres in the UK in some years and locations are worst than normal tyres.

the winter 2 years ago many areas in the UK mainly midlands did not even see a frost and ave temps were >6oC

last year only a few frosts

next point is, does one travel early or late, I don't, I work from home and leave about 10am again it's warmer by then

last point if it snows , that's a BIG if as it's not done here for 3 or 4 years in my area, I stay in or use the Ford we own.

Last gritters, I don't use my Porkers when the roads are gritted, which means I don't use them on freezing days.

I would not touch a P zero ever, so one has to decide if you fit a winter or a tyre like the Pilot super sport over winter.

CUP 2's are way way better than old cups or the crazy dunlop race maxx I had on, they def are NOT a good tyre in low temps and will kill you !

Cup 2 you just could at a push get by on if you have use of another car and we don't see a harsh winter or hard rain fall as cup 2 do not clear standing water but are in fact ok on wet roads just not standing water.

I would prob miss on winters and go for a PSS, good all round tyre and good in the rain, the GT4 will still feel sporty and fast on a PSS. or you park up below 5oc and take another car.

if you missed out on the GT4

An OPC can now sell you one

2 for sale at OPC's now, how ever frowned upon it is, OPC's will sell them for you if you ask nice.

Unfortunatley there's an error on the site D but I thought that Porsche blacklist owners reselling their cars way above purchase price. Are the 2 PCs selling close to purchase price?

Jeff

But the red one if you look at the price structure of the opc would suggest circa £103k ish also!

i think perhaps we will be looking at a minimum of £85-90k for any of these cars for at least the next 12 months

I've spent quite a few hours seeking insurance for my GT4 and I can report that, for me, Tom at Nowell and Richard has been able to provide me with a deal that is significantly better than any of the other recognised specialists that I tried. Interestingly Porsche's own insurance ran him quite close but they restrict you to 2 trackdays per year.

I don't particularly want to elaborate on my deal as most people's circumstances vary so much but give him a ring, he will research your individual needs and probably come up with something very good.

Admiral, nice post code, old and full no claims. My R is only £220 to insure.

Chris W has his GT4 today I think.

Is that an Admiral multi-car policy price D? Does it include track day cover too?

Let's hope Chris posts some pics here soon along with his initial impressions.
