Cayman GT4: Where are we up to now?

Yes, very nice D. Thanks for posting...the first UK car for this forum. Hopefully we'll hear from the man himself.

I presume that's early morning mist and not tyre smoke in the background...!

He's out driving it at the moment. Just got a txt from him to say that 600 miles in he's loving it. I'm sure he'll drop in soon with his thoughts. [:)]

thing is they don't want the cars on track for 2k miles !

so a long running in time on them if you want to abuse it long term.

Thanks all,

Been busy driving !

Will clock up 1000 miles this week and have organised oil and filter changes for Friday ...

To the car, it's a bit of a bruiser :)

It is wonderfully taut and tactile, the gearbox is short slick and very direct, the steering loads up heavily with lots of feel --- but I haven't come close to breaking traction so have no idea what the slip signals are.

Am now using 6000 rpm briefly with interspersed heavier throttle and then cooling phases --- which is pretty fast on B roads --- and a lot of fun.

Heel and toe is a dream, and the whole car flows wonderfully.

I really don't feel that I am starting to scratch the surface --- and maybe that's the point of the gearing --- the track is really the only place where you can truly press on safely at anywhere near the limit of this car if you have the ambition to make sensible use of 3rd and above.

As for second, it's a country road dream --- no need for PDK because you have close to maximum torque in the range 50 to 70 --- which should just keep you on the reasonable side of the law !!

And the sound ? It is very very rude, a rough, tough tugger.

So far !

Andreas P. did suggest that in his view the cars should be track ready earlier than 2000 miles --- and it would be my intention to do a first track day at around 1250 miles with the intention of making it a gentle discovery of around 250 miles ... with the car then run-in for road use.

It's highly unlikely that my next track day would then be at less than 2000 miles, job done !

I was working abroad most of last week and am abroad again next week --- with a four day weekend just planned to get to know the car.

How lucky have I been with the weather ?

And the final round of the Porsche Club Championship at Croft --- it has been fun !!

Chris,

Thanks for the update. Some great pics in the sunshine and continue to enjoy running-in the new car over the next few days while the weather holds up.

Keep us posted on your progress.

Porsche club track day at Oulton Park on 4th November Chris?

The fly's on the back :)

Somebody said they would never choose yellow because it attracts the flies --- which it does. But I like it.

Oulton sounds very appealing --- so long as I'm not in the Far East --- awaiting dates !

But I'll take that as an invitation and try my best --- thanks for the reminder Steve :)

OK, a few more pics ....

Now starting to press on a little ... isn't this cool ?

And I'm so glad I went for the yellow :)

Love it in yellow, but then it looks good in all the colours, but some do look better than others.

yellow with yellow stitching is what I would want with black rims and yellow pccb

Keep hammering those corners Chris..! Can't be long now before you complete the "official" running-in period.

I presume the G-meter's part of the Sport Chrono package?

The yellow's certainly very striking....plus, it makes the car easy to find in a car park.

Jeff

I presume so, not linked it to my phone yet ... 2000 miles is the official track day running in period ??

Anyone had any experience with Suntek PPF, I normally use Paintshield but they are 2.5 hours from me and found someone localled who installs Suntek. I wasn't going to have anything fitted but i've only done 250 mils and already 2 stone chips so a change of mind.
