DesignTek Exhaust muffler bypass X pipe

consider buying one of these for my 997.2 4s. Has anyone here bought one and is there any feedback or video clips on this upgrade?

Ian

Why may I ask ?

At £392 it appears to be good value.

Is it for the a better emission flow or the sound.

Never come across this one. I was considering similar on my 997.2. I looked at the Sharkwerks X pipe which is somewhere around the £1000 mark having gone up apparently due to the £/$ and import costs. I have also come across a version produced by Miltek in the uk which is around £450. Both get great write ups and will work with PSE or none PSE cars. I am told there is a slight weight reduction with the deletion of the rear silencer and slight increase in power due to better flow but most of all a better sound with no drone. If you have PSE there is not much difference with flaps shut but on the open setting there is a nice but not too ridiculous noise increase.I was quoted about £200 to fit the Miltek from an experienced garage near Crewe who have them in stock and can be done in a couple of hours with the rear bumper on. Let me know what you decide. I don't know if anyone else is interested but perhaps a "group buy" may resuce costs slightly...

Thanks for the answers

Bear/Captain , the reason is more about a sound improvement but just wanted to see if any of the people on here have fitted one to get some 'owner' feedback. £392 is ex vat so price is £470

Rocky, thanks for the info I hadn't seen the Milltek version which seems very similar to the Sharkwerks crossover version, I'll see if I can get a quote for it.

Only got car last Nov but had a wee list of extras to get from the spec I bought so PSE and xpipe will hopefully be the end of larger cost adds but knowing me maybe not!

Sort the basics first - from a 12 year one owner cars with 34,000 miles in 2015 Feb its now good.

I think you may be spending money where its silly:p

I think how the car sounds is a fairly important part of the whole experience. If it was all about power/performance then we would have bought turbos. For me the sound of the normaly aspirated car against the noise of a turbo was a huge deciding factor. I have a 20,000 mile 997.2 cab but made sure that I went for a pse and chrono car. In sports plus with pse open the sound is one of the biggest factors thats makes me grin. I think a few hundred quid for a little bit more flat six noise is money well spent.

I never forget looking at after market pipes for a Ducati 996. When trying to decide what size of pipe to go for from 52/54/56mm a cool Irish guy who was selling them said "ask yourself one question.....how much do you like grinning. If you buy the 56mm you will never bloody stop!!!"

Miltek will not supply direct but have found the kit as low as £450. I may well go with the Crewe company as they have fitted loads and the owner ran one on his GTS.....

Pm me if you want details...

Does the "Gundo" Hack not work on 997.2? Of course, it means an amount of butchering your existing exhaust but I think it can be done for more like £200'ish

Hi Mike the Gundo hack would work fine but I want a switchable system and prefer to stay with the Porsche system And it's authentic feel Rather than some of the other aftermarket systems. The addition of a rear silencer delete is just to make up for a lack of note from the stock PSE on the 997.2 cars.

Rocky, I asked about the Milltek and was told 6wks + on availability currently. I think I prefer the DesignTek one and they are both about the same price and it is currently in stock.

Im not sure where you are based. I know there is a lead time on the Miltek system but having spoken to Chris at ABP motorsport in Crewe he has the Miltek and the Sharkwerks in stock. They are quoting £490 for the Miltek and will fit for two hour labour.

Hi Rocky,

I went for the DesignTek one in the end. I'll be fitting it myself over the next few weeks so I'll let you know how it goes!

Thanks for the comments

Ian, will love to know how you get on with this and of course to hear it! It's something I might consider myself. Good luck with the install.
