Exhausts for the (northern) boys!

He said he needs to see it first. If sgl1966 wants to send me his spare then I'll drop it in.

I think the N/A he has in in the next couple of months might be an S2 so Worsey may be in luck.

I can't stress enough the workmanship and quality of AAS' work. Forget importing a Fabspeed - this will be a great option. Hopefully once it's jigged then the lead time and potentially the cost will be less. I know Jon Mitchell was looking for a decent exhaust supplier maybe you could point him in the direction of this thread Pete?

How much for the 3" Turbo elbow Dave?

I took Simon's downpipe in today and after Stuart had a good look at it he said that they could do a 3" version for ÂŁ160. That said, there would be a few challenges - namely the size of the pipe in relation to the size of the flange from the Turbo. Ideally he'd want the bolt spacing measurements from a turbo with a 3" outlet so that he knew how much material he had to play with. He also couldn't guarantee that there wouldn't be any clearance issues on the chassis - I know some of the other 3" pipes have needed some material removed from near the castor mount.

In other news . . . The N/A they had in recently was an S2 and they made two identical exhausts from it. One to fit to the car and another to make a jig from when they had more time. Stuart tells me that they'll be jigging that exhaust within the next month and will then be able to produce S2 exhausts made to order within 2 weeks - cost will be ÂŁ550 including VAT plus delivery (he thought it may have been less if it had been similar to a 924 system but the way the pipes are means it's the same work as the turbo exhaust).

Once my car has been jigged in March then again, 2 weeks from order and ÂŁ550 plus delivery or they can fit it if they can book you in (it wasn't said explicitly but the insinuation was that fitting would be free - best check though).

Stuart did say that they would prefer to make batches of exhausts rather than one-offs here and there, I asked about a group buy discount and got the impression that if I approached him with some numbers then he'd think about it!

I'll keep everyone updated and we can look at a possible group buy next year when mine's been done.

I'll do a list next March once mine's done - that way people can see how good the quality is too.

PaulK - Stuart will have the jig for a Turbo and an S2 system, I don't know if he'll be doing others but will check.

So after a note from and a chat with Dave, I got in touch with Stuart @ AAS again. Popped into work this morning to find an email saying that he's finished the jig and the first S2 exhaust is now made up (think it's 2.5" from memory, decat back manifold, oval tip). I'll nip into the guys up the road and see how much they'll do me to fit it.

Will take a couple of pics when it arrives for anyone else interested in one, and then see if I can grab some sound as well.

Good stuff, March is so long away that I bought an MX-5 last month as a winter project :)

Can't wait to see the pics, a before and after video would be useful as well, see how it sounds.

I'm no exhaust expert but it's a lovely bit of kit, very impressed with the quality. Waiting on a couple of manifold gaskets from OPC Chester and then my indie's going to fit it. Would have preferred an oval tip but not complaining (I might see at some point of I can get the stock tip welded on). Will try and grab some pics when it's up on the lift (want to take the opportunity to get underneath and check the sills etc anyway), and grab some before and after sound clips. Might need a hand loading them up though.

Looks great, I'm going for no centre silencer though - bwarrrrrppppp !

Interesting on the tailpipe as Stuart showed me a range of end finishers that they had in stock. He said I could choose anything from the table but not anything on the shelf. When asked why he said that everything on the table was English made stainless steel and would last the life of the exhaust, everything on the shelf was Taiwanese and he stocked it because people asked for it but he always tries to steer them away from it.

I'm going to go for a rolled edge oval that's slightly slash cut in line with the rear valance. Roll on March 2nd :)

Easiest way to do vids is on your phone then upload them to youtube, then there is a handy share button which will generate a link that you can post here [:D]

Apols for being tardy, have been waiting on some manifold gaskets from OPC Chester. Booked in for fitting on Wed 7th Jan so will get some pics and sound sorted.

Have a good christmas[:)]

Evening all

Exhaust fitted yesterday. Looks quite understated from the rear from my brief look in the dark, I was worried the round tip would be a bit Scooby in appearance but it's not big enough to look lairy, and it ends roughly the same length as the stock tip. Will grab a pic at the weekend. I'm picking up the original exhaust tomorrow, will find somewhere to put it in case I ever need it.

So I got the window down, fired it up and got a nice burble burble burble sound at idle, deeper than the stock sound with a bit more edge to it. Then proceeded to drive home with the window down at six in the dark, in between rain showers. Probably looked a bit of a tool but enjoyed the new sound [:D] Unfortunately the window switch gave out on me after playing up for ages, so I legged it home and got into the garage and under the cover before it rained. So a little job at the weekend - be good to tinker for a bit, haven't done much lately.

I have a before sound clip at idle so will grab same for the new exhaust and then go for a spin to see Tim, he can act as sound man. Being a novice I can't really say how it should sound; I'm sure it settle down with a few more miles perhaps, but I'll try and post it on here soon as I can so you can decide for yourselves.

Good stuff! Counting down the days to mine, just belts, rollers, waterpump and front end reseal to get done first. Going to be an expensive start to the year for the old girl.
