Forum upgrade

One thing that is noticable - after a slow start, the number of posts is getting back to normal, so people must be getting used to the new format whether or not they like it!

One adapts!

I noticed a real increase in traffic over this week as well.

It's always been the same: when the forum was first launched, many people said it would never catch on. At my first conference there were people screaming for it to be closed as it brought the Club in to disrepute!

Ten years on it's still quite a useful asset. [:)]

In reply to Mr Sims, this forum is an official branch of the Porsche brand and in its latest format doesn't qualify to the perceived and actual quality I am to expect from the brand - though that's perhaps I generally find the vintage products from the brand of higher quality and robustness than the later ones and again I am not even a member so thank you anyway for giving my comments more attention than what they're probably worth.

FWIW I work in IT in a position that places me between end users and the real geeks who fiddle with the codes and I always side with users when the geeks deliver a half-finished product, and I think we were in a similar situation at the initial launch.

If I applaud (again) the improvements regarding waste of space, I believe I have made constructive comments regarding the waste of space and the need to choose not to display signatures which all should help with the visibility, so let's see if the admins can fix this and I will check in back in some weeks.

Have fun chaps [:)]

No it isn't.

It is a forum for Porsche enthusiasts run by Porsche enthusiasts. Porsche Club GB does have a handfull of paid employees but they are there because it would not be possible for the Club to support all of its members only by people giving up their spare time.

The Club is recognised by Porsche Cars and Porsche is a sponsor of the Club, as is Pirelli, Lockton Insurance, and others. Sponsors do not have any input into the running of the Club, or the forum, aside any services or discounts they may provide to members.

I haven't reported it yet, but does any one else have problems on an iPad? I can't create new threads, there is no button the large area at the top obscures the buttons and forum links. I can only navigate at the bottom of the page.

I've tried to use the new forum on my iPad and iPhone as well as on my computer. It is much harder to navigate around and near impossible to use on the Apple devices [:(]

It needs improving for mobile devices as it is too cluttered IMO

As said by TTM the 'Vintage' products seem to work better than the Modern products [;)]

works ok on an iPad if you have it in landscape mode, portrait is a real pain

It works better in landscape on my Android phone and tablet as well. This isn't unusual when compared to a number of "modern" forums I frequent.

I have to admit the "New" tag is a complete pain in the bum, obliterating the start of the title, if you just drop in on the phone quickly in portrait mode, but otherwise I haven't really experienced any significant operating issues.

to be honest i had given up using the forum on my samsung phone...no easy way of returning to the 944 page when in a thread..ie the thread breakdown at the top of the page isn't displayed meaning i can't easily select 944 or even the registered pages ..nothing no even 'all forums'? so on reading the posts above I thought I'd try it in landscape which I hadn't thought of trying..alas the page won't go into landscape on my phone....lol

desktop only for me it seems...:(

Interesting, as I'm finding the Android version so much better. Galaxy Ace: really cheap and simple phone but I guess it is the same on any android device?

First time on the new forum and I just find it visually very unappealing and difficult to differentiate between the posts and identify the subject matter title. The initial display of the thread list is also extremely cluttered and poorly defined.

visually a retrograde step.

Persevered for weeks now. Wanted to like it, can't. Used to be fun and easy and an often used forum for me. Now it's hard work on laptop or mobile. Only look in now in case I miss something in the 944 world. A chore and not a pleasure. Here's hoping TIPEC doesn't have an "upgrade".

Sorry guys. It's awful.

Stuart

Hi Stuart,

What result did you get from contacting the support team? My mobile and tablet is a huge improvement but there were a couple of niggles to iron out first.

And yes, I'm sure Tipec will change over time as well: all IT systems change, don't they? Our mistake, IMO of course, is that we left it too many generations of updates before changing so it was too dramatic a step. This was like going Windows 95 to windows 8 in one go, rather than changing every couple of years.

Forum layout looks bland and 'cheap' compared to others. Not really be-fitting of the Porsche marque.

It works ok but but thats about it. Other forums using vBulletin are so much better, how come the club doesn't use them?

vBulletin is a different platform from ASP, isn't it? That would be the same issue we had with the other alternative, as already explained. The ten years of info on this forum is important: neither risking losing some of it by moving to a new platform, nor creating an archive and starting again, were felt to be viable.

You need to contact [link=mailto:support@porscheclub]support@porscheclubgb.com[/link] as we keep saying, though!

They really need to be getting the feedback and advice, or requests for help if things aren't working correctly. [:)]

I don't know a bean about forum platforms! As said, this one seems to work ok, just aesthetically poor. Looks more Proton than Porsche [8|]

Funny how most of the complaints are from guests not members. I wonder how many of these people walk into a friends lounge and go "I don't like it."

Personally I'm a bit bored of the subject now. We have what we have. There are going to be tweaks and things will change.

A forum is like a Pub. Sit down, drink your beer and join in the conversations. Have you nothing better to discuss than the decor?

And as for
.....Here's hoping TIPEC doesn't have an "upgrade"

Is an observation any less worthy or valid from a guest than a member? Maybe more 'guests' would be inclined to join if the forum was more appealling.....
