I Think I Have Killed My Car!!!!

Not wishing to appear as a vulture

Caw, caw.... not much matey!!!

Unbolt and replace the wing, get a s/h bonnet, 3cwt of isopon and a can of paint it will be as good as new. Dont forget to blow up the front tyre of course.....

Did a similar thing in my old one but rear ended an armco. I was lucky as there was no suspension damage but still cost £1600. Didn't bother with insurance as the excess was so much and with NCD was nearly that anyway.

Don't give up just yet, keep the vultures at bay until you have had at least two proper assessments.

Keep the faith.

I am now certain it is a write off, as my body work guy has had a look at it and he says that his gut reaction is that it wil cost between £6,000 and £7,000 at his prices to repair!!

But there you go, LIL 5087 is dead!!

NNNNOOOO!!

Bad news Phil, She looked a good one.
Get another quote just in case.......
Doesnt leave many options though
Sell it as parts on ebay, this forum and the few other websites scattered around and you may be surprised at what it will all fetch £££££££££££££££££££

Dont wish to sound harsh but......

Stacking your car in that manner is only achieved through excessive speed for the road conditions and/or incompetence.

Neither of which are a useful defense in court or for your conscience if you had managed to kill some other poor motorist or pedestrian.

So enough of the hand ringing over a heap of twisted old metal, enough of the poor old me etc and be grateful that your actions did not impact on anyone else.

The Crow.

That is harsh!!! But then most of your mails seem to come across negatively, so no surprise there then.

Dont wish to sound harsh but......

With due respect, I think that was harsh and unnecessary.

Phil noted that he was at fault in his first posting, and we all appreciate that cars don't crash by themselves. If I recall the incident was late at night and the reason nobody else was involved was perhaps because nobody else was there. Whilst it is regretable when "having some fun" goes wrong, assuming no body else was about I commend Phil for "having some fun".

I would respectfully suggest that anyone who drives with enthusiasm, and is honest, has damaged a car through his own fault at some time.

Phil is an enthusiast, as am I, and consequently I can understand how his car is pivitol to much of his enjoyment in life.

I don't know if you are deliberately playing Devils Advocate but, in these circumstance your comments are very unkind and hardly in the spirit of friendship that one would expect from a fellow Club member and enthusiast.

Merely pointing out cars do not crash themselves and while anyone can make an error of judgement on the open road stacking your car at a roundabout is hardly the same thing.

As for being negative, I prefer realism.

All of that said I was gently playing devils advocate in part due to the never ending pious pity for this event. It did not take more than a few posts before individuals were foccused on:

1. The value of their car, vicariously through the write off value and 2. what parts they could salvage fortheir own vehicles.

So lets all stay real on this one. ie it is in all probability worth more written off than its free market value, ultimately it is only a metal box (and hardly rare) whose demise only serves to remind one and all that their limitations as a driver are very probably below their skills.

Dear Crow Man,

I note from your details (or lack of them) and your Nom de Plume that you choose to remain anon. and faceless. I am assuming this is because you have multiple personna within this forum and use "Crow Man" just to stir things up.

I can't think of any other reason why, when in a hole, you would dig yourself in deeper. Come clean, and we will all accept you comments more graciously.

Hi

No only one persona, oversight on my part re details.

Joined 'cos I am looking to sell my car and figured here might generate some interest. Have owned loads of these ruffians over the years and found the mileage thread typical of an owners forum and threw in my two penneth.

As for this thread it is always distressing to trash your fave car but the perspective should be when it is your fault - Thank god I did not hurt someone else. Otherwise accidents are why you have insurance, end of story.

I'm sure in fairness Phil knows this and everyone else was just being 'nice', I just felt they were missing the point.

Tough little car the 944, I stacked one at nearly 40 mph into a tree and totally stuffed it and walked out just a little shocked.

Crowman - Did your incompetance cause your prang?? Were your friends sympathetic or were they of a similar ilk to your goodself and deride your obviously inept skill levels?? Or was the tree at fault?? I hear old Quercus Robur is a particularly tricky fellow.

I think at this point as a moderator, I need to stop this.

I was doing about 30mph at the time and the fact is that there was "BLACK ICE" which was actually written on the report given by the Police. Whilst I am at fault, could have done nothing about it. Perhaps in a car with traction control, or even front wheel drive, the outcome would have been different.

I am an enthusiast and as such am not only interested in getting the best out of my car, but also interested in keeping it in one piece. I am a 33 year old business professional who works in the motor trade, and this is not my only car, as I have a company car.

I think we must all keep a focus on what this forum really is and not start getting on our moral high ground. If it wasn't me that had suffered here, perhaps I would be saying something like, "come on guys, show some sympathy", just think how you would feel if it had been you and your pride and joy.

As far as I am concerned, I haven't taken anyones comment badly, I am thick skinned in that respect, but come on people, remember that we are all human.

Regards

Phil

Fao Tim Court

Accident was not my fault, other driver came round a blind bend and lost control, hit one car and was coming at me at 50 mph plus (police estimates), I was already slowing for the bend and managed to knock off 10 mph berore I had a choice: impact at combined speed of 80mph or avoid.

I doubt if I had stayed on my line that I would have got out the car unscathed, and frankly I am glad I took avoidance. The tree had been removed except the bottom four foot which was nicely disguised in the hedge. When you leave tarmac at any speed and are travelling in straight line it is very difficult to brake and/or steer. Better to be spinning, sadly the brake lever on the 944 makes that quite tricky and in any event would not have been appropriate here.

So 1 out of 10 for trying to be clever, it clearly doesnt suit you?

Well Crow,

You have just confirmed my thoughts that you realy do need a course in "How to make friends and influence people", or anger managment, or Yoga, or perhaps in the general use of common courtesy.

Good forum this !!![:D][:D]

Told you those trees are cunning fellows. It was a good job your driving and incident avoidance techniques are so clearly honed to a razor sharpness that is only matched by your charm.

Could we please have this asshole removed from the Forum?

Gosh, why don't we ban the BNP as well !

We have had a lot of problems in the past, with people saying the 'WRONG' thing (define wrong ?), so lets not start again.

TOLERANCE !

'I may not agree with what you said, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.'

Now, who said that ?
Obviously, not a PCGB person !

You, Derek, are more offensive (to me) than he is !
