I Think I Have Killed My Car!!!!

i've seen Trolls at work on other sites i had hoped as this is a closed site (you have to be a member to partake)we wouldn't be troubled by Tw*ts.

I know Phil and i know just how much time, effort and money he had put into his 944 over the last year. he must be quite gutted by this accident.

a small reminder of just how smart it was (sorry phil ) is that a machine gun poking out above the number plate?

Recieved this in my inbox this morning

Remind me never to send you an email - bet you didn't ask if it could be published ?

I don't necessarily defend the sentiment, but.....

John,

Not sure what you mean but I thought I would add a quote from my favourite book:

Live never to be ashamed if anything you do or say is published around the world - even if what is published is not true.

Did you report your car to the Police as stolen?

No, but I wish I had[;)]

I only found out the car had gone from Bodytechnics when I arrived to pick up some of my belongings that I needed. Norwich Unions operatives (Universal Salvage) had arrived earlier "For the 944".

Where did they take it? Bedford, almost totally the other side of London from me.
When I phoned NU the next day to find out what the hell had happened, they told me that they had "moved it to storage".
"Stolen it you mean".
"No Sir, moved it to storage"
"OK, I own the car, it was moved without my knowledge or permission from a known location, to an unkown location - I think I have every right to call the Police and report it stolen"
"......<silence>......"
Me, "Don't you?"
"It's our car Sir, you must send me your log book"
"AUUUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!"

[]

I really really wish I had called the Police.

By the way, in my investigations in to NU, I met other Porsche owners who had had similar experiences. One 944 was removed from the driveway of the owner whilst they were at work - they too were disputing the value of the car.

I have other information that was provided by someone from within NU, about policy on paying out on claims, but I can't repeat it here.

It is now official, my 944 S2 Cabriolet is no more!!

It was dragged onto a truck on Monday and sent to the big S2 graveyard in the sky (somewhere in Doncaster, they say Yorkshire is sophisticated!!).

Now I am waiting for AXA (through Carole Nash) to come back to me with an offer.

I will keep you all up to speed.

Regards

Phil

Phil,

Might be worth asking how much the "salvage" would be.
People like Simon Butterworth (PorscheApart) might make you an offer that is higher than the insurance company want for the vehicle.

Always worth giving Simon a call and sending him photos. See what he says.

Pity you let them take it though - maybe you could have sorted the whole thing without it disappearing (with potential for more damage - see above...[8|])

Hi Mark

The guy from the salvage people says that the car, if they deem it fit, will be sold by internet auction and I will not be given first dibs. Also, they said that AXA will not come out to inspect the car, due to the age and all they will do is look at a digital picture from the yard.

Not alot I could do, but there you go.

Cheers

Phil

Hmmm..
The fact is you own the car until they have made, and you accepted, an offer.

There is nothing that says you can't buy the salvage. They have no right to deny you that option before agreeing to their offer.

They do streamroller their customers into "this is wat we do", but they have no legal basis to be able to do this.

I know how you feel - and it may well be easier to let them get on with it.

Hope it all goes ok.

Phil,

Whilst noting that I don't know anything about insurance it would seem that Mark has a valid point.

Put in simple terms.

"Ello Squire, we're taking this car away and our Guvnor is gonna tell you ow much es gonna give ya for it."

Write everything down, who said what and when. Date everything and get everybodys name you can think of, what they said and why. Make side notes on your thoughts and what you did. Get details of current prices and even go and see a few of the cars advertised to confirm if they are as good as yours.

Armed with this information, or even without, you could write to them confirming their removal of your car and that you understand they have deemed the vehicle a write off. Note that you consider the market value of your vehicle, prior to the accident, to be £XXXXXX and that you would be willing to offset the salvage of the vehicle at £XXXXXX (assuming you want the car for salvage). At least that way they have to disprove your value of the car and suggest an allternate value.

There is no reason to think that things will go pear shaped, but the more details and information you have at your dispossal the stronger your possition will be if things do turn.

For the sake of a couple of hundred quid, it may be worth consulting a soliciter, it could save you far in excess of £200 in the long run.

Everyone is an expert here but never mind.

Insurance companies have no legal obligation to sell you the salvage as part ofd the settlement unless stipulated, indeed over the past few years they have been extremely cautious over parting with certain grades of salvage.

They have come to the sad conclusion that many of these written of cars end up being insurance losses again after the new owners discover the vehicles murky past - fires and dodgy claims.

Hence they will only release the car to breakers.

The Crow.

Ps

If one or two posters decide to decend into personal abuse as they did towards myself then please accept my right to reflect some back. On a more diplomatic level I would very much prefer they were civil and if in disagreement with any opinions, they put their side rather more pleasantly.

Well the insurance company have offered what I paid for the car in July 02, so I can't complain.

Good news, once again guys and girls, thanks for you support.

Regards

Phil

I am exploring the possibility of buying back my S2 Cab to break, if anyone is interested in any parts, let me know, so I can see how much it would be viable to pay.

Phil
