Just a wee tale .... 2.5 8V Restoration

I've also started making frames front and rear which will have castors on to roll the bare shell to the paint shop on, the front one picks up the xmember location.

Its these hidden costs that mount up in restorations, the steel alone is ÂŁ200 plus I am getting a fabricator in to do the welding after I have measured, cut and prepped everything.....shouldn't have sold my welder !!

The frames will be available when I've finished with them.

All the best, Paul

Even Ken is looking at this and thinking: sh*t! Im cutting corners! [:D]

Lol, I very much doubt it...

A few small updates.

I finished my frames to move the bare shell about on so the car is now mobile again, in a Flintstone style.

The n/s front wing is back from investigatory media blasting, the news is good, just a couple of pinholes and it's now with the bodyshop for MIG brazing, once this is back and fitted there's a wee bit more cleaning to do where access was restricted by the axle stands, door handles etc to remove, then I'll be talking to the bodyshop about a slot for some India Red.

I've also been stripping the engine/clutch down for inspection and replacement.....and cleaning with toothbrushes.

All the best, Paul

I used to refer to a job done properly as 'The Full Ken', but in light of Paul's spectacular effort I have now changed this to 'The Fully Ruddy'.

Gents, I am a mate of Pauls, and believe me when he tells you it will get a general tidy up, you know what's coming, this is not the first car that has had this believe me.

He used to do this in his sleep to early Ford RS models and his known all over for his work.

when this is done I need to drop my turbo off with him and tell him to give me a call when it's done.

He knows and I know he gets more of a buzz doing the resto than driving the things, and good on him.

wish I could do this to mine...:(....very impressive Paul, very impressive indeed....well done sir

Pete

I know a Detailer OCD guy who uses DOG toothbrushes, as the handles are longer and they also do a

small finger like scrubber...

I also completed the conversion of the front struts to Bilstein inserts

It may be too late now? but the Top screwable cap that Bilstein supply must be bare metal

with no coating at all.. and really needs Paint or clear Lacquer.

(although you may never see them under the Blue covers)

Here's what mine look like after fitting only 3 months ago.. All furred up with rust

Work continues, the body shell is waiting for its slot at the paint shop , hopefully in the next couple of weeks, in the meantime here's a few photos for your viewing pleasure.

Just curious why the bare aluminum parts were painted instead of cleaned?

Cleaned / blasted / stripped in acid all produce the same results, although the high pressure water (Posh name - Vapour) blasting leaves a uniform flat sheen on the metal which looks clean & great has no protection at all and will corrode.

Most metalwork on all car's has to be covered, coated, painted, plated etc..

otherwise in time and (dependent on use & conditions) all the nice clean bare aluminium will look like this..
