Life on the Dark Side

Sandy as you know I have the folding buckets in my GT 3. When the seat is as far back as the adjustment will allow the seat is very close but not actually touching the roll cage. I can get my little finger between seat and cage. I suspect it was deliberately positioned like that to protect the seats.

However in that position the seat is a long way back and you would need to be well over 6ft (or have very long arms) to need the seat that far back. I am 5ft 11 and I dont need the seat that far back so its no issue for me.

Thanks for that useful info Bob.
Actually I am 6'3", but probably not a huge difference in the scheme of things.
I was originally going for a comfort spec with folding buckets, and thought if the legroom was a problem I could always move the seats back somehow.
I'm now thinking about the C/Sport option, but then thought the cage might prevent any re-positioning of the seat, which sounds like it would.

From what you say looks like I'll be safe enough though,
Cheers.

I went for Clubsport spec because the perception of the GT 3 is that it is a track car so many/most buyers want a cage so as they can fit harnesses. However in my view the current GT 3 is a great sports car which is uesable on the road and a comfort version still makes a lot of sense as ride quality is good. Also the buckets are quite deep so hold you in place very well with a standard belt

Yes last car was comfort spec and great for the road. I'm now looking at Clubsport spec still mainly for the road, but like you more in keeping with the GT3 track image I suppose.
Anyway final decision time tomorrow !!

Bob at the risk of being a pain, as I know you have a camera, any chance you could post a picture of your seat in the fully back position relative to the B pillar ??
Reason I ask is I have a similar picture of my last car's seat in this position so I'll get a really good idea of legroom available.
It would just put my mind at rest before I press the 'confirm' button !!
I've trawled the internet but just can't see the right picture.

Cheers,
Sandy

On my GT2, I found it was the ear extension on the seat that just touched the roll cage up near the B pillar, but this only occurred when driving as there's a bit of flex in the backrest - especially after a heavy landing!

Nice wall carpet BTW, Bob.

Is that John Lewis? [:D]

Clive

Its actually an old piece of curtain stuffed with foam and mounted on hardboard. However its very useful to have on the wall in a tight garage as it means you can push the door against it when climbing out of those buckets without fear of scratches or dings in the paintwork

Sandy,

I've just found a couple of photos of the seats in my GT2 that might give you the idea.

Clive

Many thanks for the pics too Clive.
Final question : was that your normal seating position, or did they go a bit futher back ??

I must say I'm normally a bit of a 'leather' man, but these nomex seats do look good.
I'm now convinced on the Clubsport option even though I hadn't considered it up until 2 weeks ago. Another 'final' spec sent today, my dealer has requested I stay off the configurator site from now on !!

This is where my seat was in the previous car, although I think I could easily live with a little bit less room if need be.

Clive, just reading back you said they almost touched the cage when driving, so I'll assume this is fully back. Probably a few inches in it but should be good to go.

Cheers,
Sandy

Sandy,

Yes, that's correct. I actually moved the seat one notch forward to eliminate the problem in my case - but I'm a little shorter than you.

In the first photo you can just make out the transparent patch I placed on the roll cage upright (just below the pull strap) to prevent chaffing.

But I wouldn't let this put you off. These seats are magnificent, very comfortable - even on long journeys. [:)]

BTW I believe they're covered in Alcantara cloth not Nomex and have very appealing carbon fibre backs to them.

Regards,

Clive

Sandy having looked at your picture I can see you have sports adaptive seats. Mine wont go back quite as far as your show but I still think you will be alright.

Clive is correct the bucket seats are covered in Alcantara with carbon fibre backs. Note the only adjustment on the seats is back and forward (other than tilt for access) The backs are in a fixed position and there are no side bolsters or lumbar support like you have in the sports adaptive seats but as Clive says they are very comfortable and I have not found them a problem at all but my management would like to be able to adjust the angle of the backrest which you cant do. If you want to have the sports adaptive seats then you need to go Comfort spec I think

Bob I did like the adaptive sports seats, but as you say only available with comfort spec, and I've decided to go clubsport this time, I'm pretty sure I'll be fine with the legroom as you say.
According to the Porsche website the seats are covered in alcantara/leather with the comfort spec, but a flame retardant material with the clubsport spec, maybe that's where I got nomex from.
My 'management' also prefers to adjust the seat back, but I'm not actively trying to encourage her into the car anyway, since 50 mph is 'fast enough' in her book !!

Cheers,
Sandy
