Lowered 944s and shattered ball joints

The ledas do have a bump stop and iirc it is similar in proportions to the original porsche one. The srticle linked seems to indicate the alloy part of the wishbone breaks, not the pin as in Peters case, however 19mm pins seem to indicate the pin is the issue. With 19mm pins is the hub strong enough?

PS apologies for the picture quality, in my rush to fit them the phone was deemed good enough,
Tony

PS one thing I didnt lijke about the leda's was the dust shield over the spring, it sits between the spring and the hat and doesnt last long before the spring cuts through it - this was reported back to leda.

Oh and whilst on the subject of front suspension,
Those are the KLA fixed mounts and I thought they were vulnerable to dirt from below, I cut a large 'washer' from an old mouse mat and fitted it below them,

I've got to admit I considered going for 19mm but the thought of reaming out the hub somewhat filled me with dread.

I am still waiting for Rennbay to come back to me with regard to the potential roll and bump steer issues of their extended ball joints.

Found my redundant wishbones at the weekend and have now arranged to have them bead blasted so they are nice and clean to work on.

Well they certainly don't look like they were lovingly hammered out of pig iron by a sweaty blacksmith in a leather apron. [:D]

I've received my adjustable Konis from Porscheshop now and wished I'd gone for Ledas. [] (Don't tell Tommo or he may well implode [:D])

It transpires that the Porscheshop Koni adjustables are nothing more exotic than standard M474 dampers. They are adjustable, but probably less soft and less soft again. The adjustment is achieved by fully compressing them and turning the shaft - so not something that can be done on the car (unless you have an excessively fat mate who can sit on the wing - and then probably brake your ball joint).

How do you find the KLA mounts? I am considering them and they seem quite good value for money. The alternative I am considering are the Lindsay Racing camber adjustable mounts which have a seperate thrust bearing that bear the cars weight leaving the rose joint to work seperately. This seems a better engineering solution but i'm not sure how necessary it is if there are no issues with the KLA mounts.

PMSL!!!!!!!
But seriously John, speak to Karl at Racers Edge in US. He has done most of the development work for Leda on the 944/968. On the rears you should really use the banana arm bolts for clearance. Leda have put absolutely loads of time into getting the 944 range right. I am going for their triple adjustables with remote resevoirs as I intend to race the car next season and don't want to do the job twice. Fair enough if I was spending ÂŁ4-5k on shocks I would probably go for Ohlins or Penske but then you are into dream teritory.
The reason for the ball joint failure was most likely metal fatigue. Remember it was a broken ball joint that killed Mike Hawthorn in a MK1 Jag on the A3 Hogs Back nr Guildford. Its kind of strange that 2 months later Jaguar changed the size of Ball joint increasing size by a third!
I am just pleased Peter got out of it allright as I am sure everybody else is.
Now get shot of that old Dutch technology and get some proper English engineering!!!

They are OK but not brilliant, they werre slightly over machined for thr spherical bearing and the bearings themselves were not of the highest quality, They still offer far superior location to my worn originals however ;)

Save your money + get some Racers edge top mounts.
I looked into the KLA ones + thought they looked "cheap"..
After all you only want to fit them once...

I actually got some Dynatech jobs... SUPERB bits of engineering...[:D][:D][:D][:D]

Just a quick update, I've heard that the wishbone thread had been pulled out of the chassis leg on my car. I suspect this happened during the incident, rather than was the cause of it, but it seems to be about the only real hidden damage my car experienced.

I'm glad you seem to have got away lightly, although with this opportunity to fit some modifications i'm sure it will still be a costly return to the road!

The ones I saw last night had purple anodised fittings. I'm a sucker for purple anodising, you should see my mountain bike.

I'll stop trying to give the impression that I'm a computer whizzkid if you'll stop attempting to convince people that you're a super-fit mountain biker....[;)]

Under this flabby exterior there lurks a finely honed racing snake fighting to get out. [:D] I would be far faster down hill than I ever was. :ROFLMAO:
