Wow super looking car. I love white. Let us know how excited you feel when you have had a few days driving her. Take it easy and drive safe. Good luck. Mike

Greetings all,

I've been a PCGB for over a year but only picked up my first Porsche two weeks ago from Stirlings. 2010 C2S - I love it!

It's very much a weekend warrior sharing garage space and affection with a Caterham. Not sure the 7 is going to get much of a look in for quite a while though.

If only I could work out how to post pictures ( never really been bothered about that sort of thing in the past!)

Hi!

I am Tom, from Surrey and I collected my first Porsche on Tuesday this week. Its the Carrera 4 GTS in Grey and I have been wanting one since they first came out. I came close to buying a 991 Turbo S but it was Red with Beige and wanted something more discreet.

Being a complete petrol head the list of cars I have owned so far in my driving career is pretty long and varied but includes..

BMW M3's (E30, E36's, and E46's)

BMW M5

Subaru Imprezza's (WR1, RB320, WRX STI)

Mini Cooper GPs

Lotus Elise's

RenaultSport (Clio Trophy, V6's, 172's, 182's, Megane R26's and R26R)

11x Renault 5 GT Turbo's (I still have my completely original white example)

Ferrari 355 Berlinetta

X5's (X50d M)

Just joined the club.

My second 911 Porsche is a June 2012 997 GTS4 Cab.

I have had the rear silencer removed and stainless cross over pipes put in, sounds awesome.

Also fitted a fixed rear spoiler and Smart Top Box for controlling the roof.

Probably going to get the wheels sprayed in satin black as well.

Previous car was 996 C4S Cab had it for 6 years, would not drive anything else, tried Astons, Jags, Ferrari etc

In fact, a brand new F type Jag felt all over the place compared to my old 996 hence my decision to stay with Porsche and get the GTS 997.

Really, really pleased with the car, I drive it pretty hard ( I raced motorcycles for 20 years) - very pleased with the car compared to the 996.

I did the Porsche day at Silverstone and was pleased that the new 991 feels very similar to my 997.

Planning on doing some UK track days next year.

Could do with some advice on best insurance company that covers track days at a reasonable cost as well as the usual cover.

Cheers

James

Try Mannings road cover with unlimited UK ATDO track days and UK track days organised by recognised Car Clubs. No need to notify them of days that meet the above requirements. Track days in Europe by same organisers as above are extra £250 per day if car value is less than £100k. Normal excess is 10% of insured value.

I deal with michael_briggs@manninguk.com Tel +44 1491 578759 Ext 206.

I used to track a GTS cab and got through three sets of front disks in 12 months over maybe 14 track days - £850 a pop with the required drive pin change..

Look forward to seeing you on track, I was at Silverstone with the Cayman.

James,

The centre lock system uses five pins secured to the hub/disk to lock the wheel to the hub/disk to stop rotation on the hub. The pins fit into holes on the inner face of the road wheel. The wheel is then held against the hub by the centre lock mechanism.

Porsche's maintenance procedure calls for the drive pins to be replaced when the disks are replaced. As I recall the 5 X 2 drive pins cost £250 per axle.

I found the 330mm front disks a tad small for the weight of my GTS cab (1628kg without a lardy driver).

I was also running Pagid Yellow RS 29 pads which might have generated more dust than normal. This fills the drilled holes and vanes and cracks can develop from the edges of the drilled holes. I started clearing the holes of brake dust after each track day which made some positive difference.

In road use the brakes are fine (but always best to avoid dust build up blocking the drilled holes/vanes). Also I know guys who track 997 GTS with less problems than I had, perhaps lighter on brakes than me?

Ralph

Thanks for the info. I have now sorted Ins, for day at Croft on the 30th but information is good to know for future, I think I might have to go easy on the anchors !!!!

Hi all after a while in the wilderness I got back into a Porsche this year.

I luckily found a beautiful 997.1 GT3 with only 9000 miles on the clock.

cant wait for the better weather to come to get out and about.

Cheers

Dave.

Hi all

Thought I should show off my new purchase, collected last Tuesday but it didn't really feel like mine until I washed it myself today...

Opted for a GTS over a turbo...not sure why but just liked the feel so much more.

I had a 996 4S for 5yrs until May last year, loved the car but decided to go practical for work reasons 🤔 and bought a new Cayenne Diesel S...lasted 6mths and now back in a 911 😎

Anyway, a few photo's below, hope you all like it!

Hi Mark,

Welcome to 997 ownership and congratulations on your new car. GTS is a fine model and I hope you will have many miles of enjoyment from it.

I'm not sure too many people will be wanting to click on links with "fake" in the title, but hopefully Alan from 997 Register will be along shortly to show you how you can post photographs on this forum.

Regards,

Clive

Mark, I think you may have inserted the wrong link between the Image buttons. Which website are the photos uploaded to? I can't get anything from the links you posted.

Hi both

Thanks for the replies...I'm having a few problems uploading the photo's from my iPad, could anyone offer some assistance.

I apologise in advance if I'm missing something obvious

Mark

I upload to Photobucket and insert the direct link between
- or click on the "attach image" icon next to the paperclip and insert the link there. I imagine other photo storage website are similar?

Hi guys, just joined today, however I have owned my 997.2 turbo since April last year.

I'm based in Camberley, Surrey

Hope to meet up with you guys at some of the events this year

Richard.

Hi Richard and welcome. Nice choice of motor, not that I'm biased. Yes indeed, hope to see you at an event or two during the year.

I just wanted to say "hi" having joined the forum today, after six months with my first Porsche - a 27K, 2006MY Arctic Silver 997 Carrera. No problems to date - RPM have confirmed no bore-scoring and I pray every day that my engine isnt going to explode with Ims failure! What a car! Everything I ever read about the 997 was completely true, with superb steering feel and, for me, more than adequate performance. I hope to attend some of the 997 and Region 10 events. I'll definitely be at the Silverstone Classic this year too. See you soon!

Welcome to the forum, Graham, and to 997 ownership. See you at Silverstone, if not before, although I, most probably, will be in the 928 and not 997!

Seems a little late, but just thought I ought to introduce myself. I'm Ben from Worcester and for those that haven't seen my c2s I'll include another photo (well its an excuse really)
