Hahahah! Yes when I did the Jim Russell Racing Driver's School courses back in 1977/78 the excuses day was part of the course! []
They must have introduced them in '77 then, certainly weren't on the '76 course....[]

They were only part of the advanced courses Melv! I'd already done the standard ones in '72 and '74 [] []
Hey I must admit your car looks great on track with its striking livery... I got views of it from several angles - I could see you side on as you went into Hizzy's when I was going into Cascades, then a front view of you coming over Hilltop as I came out of Cascades the following lap, then from the back a couple of laps later as I came out of Druids and saw you approaching Lodge! Shame I went in at the end of that lap or I could have had a closer look halfway round the next one! []

Hi all
Ian's wife (Pia) posting here on his behalf. Some of you might have noticed that he disappeared around 1-ish in the afternoon yesterday at Oulton. He suddenly felt unwell and was taken to hospital in Crewe. He's now in hospital in Stoke-on-Trent and has been 'fixed', but probably won't be home for a few days. His darling car, however, is still at Oulton Park. I have spoken to the track manager, who has been great and is happy for the car to stay there for a few more days. Ian was wondering if Melvin Spear could call me (01932 590101) to see if he can arrange to have the car picked up or alternatively if he could help me find someone else who can do car transporting. Sorry to ask this here, but I am at a bit of a loss as to how to get the car from Oulton to Surrey! Poor Ian is not allowed to drive for 4 weeks!!! (Not a happy bunny).
Thanks in advance for any help
Pia
We were chating just before lunch --- 12.15 actually because I was wondering whether or not to go out again for a few mins before the 12.30 shut down.
I have a terrible cold --- but !! 'Did an exhibition at the NEC two weeks ago and almost talked somebody to death -- he fainted on me, literally. Do I have to worry about my reputation ??
Ian, get better soon mate !!!!
Tried to catch up, and couldn't even on the Toyos.
The PSCups were week 25/05 and really were horrible --- Stuart, make sure you get them back from Simply Tyres --- just talk to Steve.
But I had a fantastic day and am only sorry that there didn't seem time to say hello to everybody. Another 250 Km track day, but I was knackered when I got home.
Paul, were you in the Red 993RS ? You passed me as well and I tried to catch you but couldn't.
But was very happy to have some fun with a few GT3RS' and compared to last year, I really am very very happy with the progress me and my N-GT have made []
As an aside, what should I do with these ?? Fit a new pair of standard discs or ??

That's quite funny [] Although the sad truth is there are plenty of truly great, talented drivers who don't achieve much in racing simply because they lack that singly important component - money!
I've recently been speaking with Dennis Rushen and we had a bit of a laugh about this; Dennis (Rushen Green Racing) ran Ayrton Senna in FF1600 and FF2000 in '81 and '82, and at the time I contacted him to ask how I could join his team as a driver - I was earning £6K a year pre-tax as an Engineer and apart from a very small amount of sponsorship from a local firm I was mostly funding my racing from my own pocket - at the time Dennis would have been happy to have me drive one of his cars but needed a similar budget from me as he was getting from Ayrton... £35K! Where would Lewis Hamilton be today without Ron Dennis's £11M? []

Yes Jason, you passed me --- and I was trying --- very trying !!

I thought I saw your car pull out half a lap on Jason in 4 laps Chris? Through the rear view mirror! [][]
I'll vouch for that Chris! Those Michelin Pilots were seriously awful! Particularly the fronts - the understeer was ridiculous!

Doubt it was half a lap but yes I was going much much slower the one time I agreed to have a passenger in my car and you were in Chris's car.
Chatting and having bit of fun with Andy Tims at same time doesn't get your fastest laps in mate. Oh yes and I was on old SSRs![][][][][][][]
I was really pleased with my RS it kept up with (or passed) everything except the very best drivers with the stickiest of tyres all day...not bad for an 80k mile bog standard RS
Thanks to all the organisers and marshalls, great day
I've driven Oulton many times in a Caterham (R400 on slicks) it's just such a different track in a GT3 on standard road tyres
Braking is the main issue together with compliance over the bumps
I think I do need to invest in some spare wheels and tyres

I was out passengering with Gordon in his GT3RS in the afternoon when he was at his quickest (he was suffering with not being able to get 3rd gear in the morning so was not on his usual form) and it took a fair few laps to catch you. To me that says how well you were pedaling the old girl and she looked great on track[]

What??? Were you on he same advanced course as Paul and me, Jason? [][][] I'm being unfair, I'm used to talking and driving quick at the same time - it's part of the job description. [8|] I was chatting with Stuart.
I know, I'm exaggerating, it wasn't half a lap... just the distance from Hizzy's to Cascades. []
