Poole Quay 2009 - Register BBQ 22-23 May

Guys we need some support please for the Poole weekend. Gary has explained to me that some of you were disappointed that we are asking for a donation for a hospice so I would like to explain why we are doing that and why you should make the effort and come especially if you are a 997 owner based in the south.
Friday night on the quay will be great fun with around 100 Porsches on display. The quay is a very lively area overlooking a lovely harbour and the Sunseeker Super Yacht factory so as well as a brilliant display of our favourite cars you will see some of the world's best boats. There are lots of pubs and clubs along the quay and there will be a great buzz on the night as this is a well known annual event. It's worth coming just for this but there is a lot more happening over the weekend.

Gary has chosen a hotel that has secure parking well off the road and overlooks the harbour and one of the best marinas in the country and you can check it out at http://www.salternsharbourside.co.uk/
This hotel is very popular and will be booked out so you cannot leave booking it to the last minute. There are alternatives if it is already booked out.
On Saturday Gary has organised a drive along the Jurassic coast and you can check out this area on http://www.jurassiccoast.com/ This is a beautiful area rated as world heritage site so well worth doing. On the return drive we will be stopping off at a local hospice for terminally ill kids and taking some of them out for a ride in our cars. Those of you who have done this sort of thing before know how rewarding this can be. I will be taking pictures and giving each kid a print as a memento of the day. It's easy for us to take our cars for granted but for these kids it will be very special indeed

You can check out the hospice we will be supporting at http://www.julias-house.org/
I know the recession is hitting all of us but life it is a lot tougher if your child or brother or sister is dying and won't live beyond their teens.

On Saturday evening I will be holding a BBQ at my house which is located in a beautiful area. I am providing all the food and drink at my cost and asking those attending to donate £25 to the hospice. This is cheaper than eating out and those of you who attended the 996 and 997 Sunseeker/Porsche days will know what my BBQs are like. This is a bargain that supports a very worthy cause not an expensive luxury or a rip off

On Sunday I am happy to take out those 997 members attending the BBQ on the boat (weather permitting). If this is of interest check out the videos on www.goldfishboat.com This is not for those of a nervous disposition or for anyone with a bad back.

All in all this promises to be a great weekend where we can have fun and raise some money for a worthy cause so can we have some more 997 register support please. If you want to come to the Friday event on the quay then you have to register your car at www.911uk.co.uk/Dorset/poole_quay_2009.htm

Nice words Bob. I hope you get the extra support this weekend deserves. I do a bit of local charity work (with the elderly) and I know how valuable it is and how appreciated it is by the recipients. Looking forward to meeting you there and enjoying a fun weekend.
Cheers
Alan

The Saturday drive originally clashed with other plans but Bob has convinced me to change them. I have in the past supported Julias House events organised by the local TIPEC region. So please count me in for the drive and BBQ, 1-person. I'm already near the top of the list for Poole Quay and currently wrecking my body skiing so Bob's boat ride offer respectfully declined.[:)]

Geoff, pleased you can now join us [:)]
I'm sure people can see what a great opportunity this weekend offers to all those going along.

Bob, many thanks for the words posted above, and obviously many thanks for your kind offer of your hospitality in the first place.

Gary et al,

I will be there for the Saturday as previously advised, but cannot do the Friday or stay down for the weekend. I am more than happy to make a donation to the hospice though.

I look forward to seeing you all on Friday evening and then probably again whilst driving around 'my manor' on Saturday. Lulworth Cove's a must, for the more active Durdle Door will result in some memorable pictures, the Tank Museum has had an expensive make-over recently, Clouds Hill and Moreton Cemetary, T.E Lawrence last residence and resting place is one for the lady's, also Moreton Church (next to Moreton Hse aka home) has some unique special engraved windows by Laurence Whistler.

If its coming the other way, its loud and Mint Green, wave, its got to be me [:D]

Regards

Just for info, we had booked in the Salterns for Fri night only but after Bob's offer of a ride in his boat on Sun decided to book Sat night too! Fully booked Sat night - Doh![:(]
Edit - just managed to find one room in Poole hotel for Sat night - most are fully booked. What recession!!!

Alan, you snooze, you loose [;)]

I might be aware of a few of us staying over on the Saturday too... maybe even at the same Hotel [8|]

True![:)] Thought initially we had to be back home on Sun but that all changed. Anyway have got two nights now even if they are at different venues! Why is it so booked out in Poole already? Half term? They can't all be coming to look at Porsches![:D] Not sunny today, btw[:(]

There's a wedding on at Saltrens on Saturday night; also people from Dorset don't like people from Devon! []
Regards,
Clive

Easy answer to why the hotels are busy...

known nationally as a Bank Holiday [;)]

apart from that the Dorset/Devon thing might be correct [:D]

Oh joy, bring on the caravans![] Still thought everyone was meant to be broke? Hey-ho, still, glad we won't have to listen to a load of drunken wedding revellers late on Sat night[;)] Thems in Dorset's just jealous.

Hi All

Have booked in at Salterns for the wife and myself for 22nd. One of my sproggs has a 987 and is keen to come along - will that be alright?
Looking forward to meeting you all.

Great news Jonathan [:)]
If you can PM me which parts of the weekend you want to join in with so I can keep my records updated

I think we can accept family members along, even for their sins of no seeing the light ofthe 997 [;)]
