Porsche 944 Turbo Restoration - Picture Heavy

Got the engine bay stripped and sent it off for paint [:D]...no time for rest I need to refurbish everything ready to go back in, before it went I pulled the HVAC

I want perfect working AC so I'm replacing the compressor with a more modern unit and refurbishing everything else the HVAC box showss it's age the foam is falling part and it,s very dirty so I,m going to Replace all the foam from OPC Make new flap seals so I don't get foam blowing out of the air con clean everthing so It smells nice replace all the little plastic clips that break clean and pressure test the heater matrix and condenser Repair wiring harness insulation

Looking good! Liking the step by step process pictures you're posting up, they will come in so handy for people wanting to do similar.
 
So started putting it back togtether I can confirm 944's are dish washer prrof so whilst the wife was out put all the plasrtic's in the dishwasher they came out a treat[:)]

foam was falling apart on all the flats so I cleaned and added new foam

Only one Gasket still availiable from Porsche so cut new ones from some neoprene

Noticed the black clips were missing so I replaced all the little plastic clips and fitted the metal locking clips

repared the wiring harness and All done

nice sunny day today so sat in the garden and made some new engine bay heat sheilds, new ones not avilable from porsche so purchased some 0.5mm aluminium

cut the shape out got some engine bay heat protection material

the old and the new, just need some ali tape for the edges, I will bend the ali into shape then fit the backing and seal before the final install

I'm just glad to see people who are similar to myself. I took the heat shields off when I painted the engine bay then cleaned them and put them back. I just wish I'd thought of making new ones now.

Looks great! Lots of arts ready there too. I think I spy a heat shield/undertray there (The metal one) is that new? If so how much are they? I'm after one for mine if I can't source a second hand one.

OK call me obsessive[:D] but I brought a new one because mine was a little scratched so i have a used one going spare PM me if interested they are £85 new if i remember correctly
 
Looks fantastic Don't forget to paint your steering shaft while you've got the chance...
 
When your putting the loom etc back into the engine bay buy new screw in tie wrap things. You can get them from Porsche at 38p each . I replaced all of mine after fighting with the old ones,makes life much easier and the job much easier and all for less than a tenner.

I purchased new ones from the states, they are almost Identical to the originals [:mad:] Did not know about those
 
Spent an hour trying to fit a new steering shaft needle bearing[:mad:] It would just not go through the hole, the old one came out easy Then a EUREKA moment.......realised I was trying to pull it through the clutch cylinder hole[:mad:][:mad:][:mad:]

Not quite. Ken's decided to try his skills on a non turbo charged car. So I have kindly volunteered my 968. [;)]
