Porsche 944 Turbo Restoration - Picture Heavy

ORIGINAL: 944 man Ken you nutter! What are you going to do when it's all done and everything looks like it is new? Will you start again like the Forth bridge painters? [:D]
no Idea but I really fancy a 924 turbo[:)]

I will do all that I can to facilitate and enable. Id love to see a 931 made good. I turned down an absolute beauty in 2011. A Y registered series one in two tone green with a pefect brown dash and brown vinyl and green tartan trim. Perfect in every respect but no oil pressure when warm. £1,200 reduced to £1,100 for the oil pressure. I realise now that it would have been a good buy even at that price...

I'll hold you to that Simon...if i ever finish this one[:(] picked up a load of parts from the platers [:)]

Finally started putting it back together, powdercoated the front cross member and trial fitted the steering rack

I purchased the JMG steering shaft ....nicely made[:)]

I allso purchased the uprated hose as you can see the loop on the end is larger, but a bit disapointed in the quality the fittings do not appear to be plated they are magnetic so can not be stainless, also the webite shows it with the outer protection fitted but it arrived without I guess they expect you to cut it off your existing rack and cable tie on[:-]...not on my car...my hose guy is going to take it apart plate the fittings and re-fit with the correct instulation [:)]

fitted the brake booster and new master cylinder and nice new white plastic's

Looking good mate. I would however fit the loom into the engine bay first before you start putting anything else in there. You might find that it's easier to fit it like that.

Totally understand that please don't think I'm trying to tell you what to do it's just that I've made the mistake and had to take loads of bits out to get the loom in. [:D]

To be honest I put bits in and took them back out while I was doing mine it was more like the Hoocky Coocky than building a car.

........Wow! Nice work on everything you've done so far! I love where you've put things like "I will be fixing any broken clips i break" haha i always intend to do the same, do you just buy new parts like this from Porsche? or from the scrapyard etc Also your heat shield from scratch is really nice too, i need to get my thinking cap on! P.S Thanks for all the pics too, they are a godsend! I'm hoping when i finally pull my finger out i will be taking as many pictures too of everything i sort for my own back log and also for anyone else who may find them helpful

I work in a very small area not even a garage so it's allways messy[:-]

Simon peckham told me my engine is basicly in good condition so the original block is going off to be sorted and I have given the go-ahead for him to get it all finished[:)] so thought better pull my finger out and get the car back together again...... brake pipes behind the firewll were a pain[] but got there in end, the pipes were zinc plated and then powdercoated the green colour is just slightly to light but it will do as all the visible brake pipes are new from OPC
001_zps8439f1a0.jpg
New air con pipes fitted and started loose fitting everything ...then fabric covered hoses are new I thought they would look good but not much different to the old ones [:D]
008_zps2f4b6bd8.jpg
I'm replacing every hose so been working to the power steering cooler...plated then powdercoated and new hose fitted but I need the bend on the end so made a flexible insert from wire and masking tape pushed thet into the hose to stop the hose from squashing ...then applied adhesive lined heat shrink to hold the bend inplace

As a new 944 owner, I'm absolutely loving this post, please keep the heavy pics coming! You've done an absolutely terrific job Kongsodoken, I'm quite amazed at how far you're going and how good the work looks!

Nice sunny day so a good day to wash my plastic bits...hot soap and water (wife in so could not use dishwasher) and then 2 coats of POLYTROL I love this stuff it brings plastic back to new condition and it is permanent unlike back to black etc ....its like varnish for plastic[:)]
003_zps6c678f01.jpg
had the oil cooler re-conditioned and re-painted ...replaced the rubber mounts and plated all the fittings [:)]

I thought i was a doing a restoration but i now realise that THIS is a restoration! [:D] Very impressive effort. Must surely be one of the nicest cars around when it's finished.

ORIGINAL: 944 man Has Marc Noack replied to you Ken - does he know what the craic is with the engine?
we'll at first we thought it was a prototype titanium 400BHP special edition motor, which was rumoured to be faster than one of those Rare S2's but my local OPC checked and found it was a replacement block[] Thanks for the useful contact
