Porsche 944 Turbo Restoration - Picture Heavy

My aim has always been to create a new 944 when it's done, and it will be (march next year) then I'll drive it every day in summer not so much in the winter .......The large boot will come in handy for carrying the parts for the 931
Good on ya [:D]

I just admire all the work you have done. Most likely your car is now far better built than it was when it left the assembly line at Neckarsulm [:)]

Not Much done this week training hard for a tournament but fitted some new OEM sound deadening .....takes a heat gun to get it in nicely

Sorry if this was asked already but are you going to leave the engine completely original? I mean not even a larger exhaust or turbo, etc?

All I can say is I spent ages deciding If I should stay stock or modify ........after 3 weeks of thinking I finally decided [:)] That I would XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX ......not tell anyone[;)] I think is more fun that way[:D]

Ken, top marks for attention to detail as others have said. Great to see a new 944 turbo in the making. Not sure what your plans are for tuning but look forward to the answer in due course. TTM, given the original nature of the rebuild, which I think is the only way to do such a correct car - what level of tune would you suggest would suit the car? I had the same thought when I saw that OE down-pipe.......no-one would notice if it was 3"......[8D] George 944t

On a standard K26/8 engine I would suggest only a full 3" exhaust and the basic power upgrade (consisting in chips, fuel pressure regulator and spark plugs). I found out from working on the car of a friend that increasing exhaust size actually helps quite a bit, even with the standard turbo.

Now I bet you din't think i would be posting pictures like this again ....neither did I[] I have replaced every brake line with original porsche items except 2......guess which ones????? the 2 hardest ones behind the rear beam[][][][] they were no longer available when I checked last year but they are now back in stock so I decided to drop the rear beam and change them. much easier than last time but in order to get them in had to drop the beam, gearbox and torgue tube[][] 2 steps forward one step back[;)]

Nice work.[:)] Son is in the middle of doing the same job. He's going to bent tubes himself from ATE pipe.

What is holding the brake pipe Tee piece in place? The weldbolt snapped on mine when removing the nut so I drilled it out and put an M6 alloy rivnut in instead.

slow progress but I fitted new expansion tank

Finally got some good pistons and forged rods, from a 50K millage car in the US so let the rebuild begin[:)]

I was going to buy a new oil cooler but decided to have ago at re-furbishing the old one first, []
001_zps7b22eb64.jpg
on closer inspection it seems the leak which I thought was from the O ring was actually from the bonded fitting on the cooler....a quick twist and it came off
004_zps8e77e026.jpg
looking at the fitting it was corroded so a friend made me a new one [:)]
001_zpsffda55c4.jpg
cleaned the cooler with petrol and removed all the old adhesive, Aluminimum oxidise's very quickly so you need to bond with 15minutes of mechanical cleaning......I used a structual Acrylic 2part adhesive .....I had an expert spec this for me and he supplied it as a free sample [:)] take 4 minutes to bond so you have to work very quickly...not quite as neat as Porsche do it but close

so after hours and hours straightening all the fins and then 4 coats of heat resistant paint I ended up with this
