Porsche Spotting

ORIGINAL: A9XXC

Glenn - were you there Sunday? I caught sight of a red sporty number in the distance a couple of times, but couldn't catch up or get a good look!

No, only Saturday. I was supposed to be going to the 911 & Porsche World Picnic at Windsor with my local TIPEC region on Sunday but we bailed out due to monsoon conditions.

I think you picked the right day, Glenn.

Got there about 05.00 but by 13.00 when it started raining the temperature had dropped! Enjoyed the racing though.

Back to the topic!

In Peterborough today lunchtime a black J plate with bridge spoiler, looked smart.

Well Shropshire residents have good taste! In the space of 10 mins on the A5 near Shrewsbury on Friday I saw a Red 928 (waves exchanged) a 993 and an SC/3.2!

A couple of weeks ago on the Milton roundabout in Cambridge, a red 944 pulled up alongside me in mine (white S2). Nodded at one another! I think it had foreign plates as it was left hand drive.

Blue 944 cab at Castle Combe today.

Also... 550 Spyder replica and a 356 Speedster replica. There were also some beetles...

White 944 behind me on A43 at Collyweston before I turned in to home. Didn't wave as it was dark! (only certain was a 944 after I turned off and saw you in my mirror [:D])

lovely 924 turbo in Ripon today , first time out of dry storage for 2 years ! going for an MOT , very nice origional condition , didn't know it lived less than 1/2 mile from me.

Nick [:D]

Saw a Guards Red 924 on the A414 near Hatfield in the opposite direction to me, I waved

Then saw a Blue 944S2 on the M25 as I came down the sliproad from junction 21a...so i did my normal strafing run up behind him, he pulled over and I saluted as i went past, grinning inanely and then we ran in loose convoy for a while until I had to put the manners on an eejit in a megane who kept lane-hogging and changing speed...it would be useful if 944 driver is on here so I can find out if my Janspeed exhaust makes a nice noise going to the top of 4th...[:D]

A black 944 lux (on a C plate)with an orange Porsche logo on the door passed me on the M62 at about 6pm this evening. I would of waved but I was in the work car.

White H reg S2/turbo ? with off white panel at Yeovil yesterday .Gave thumbs up but no response. I was in my dove blue F reg S2

Got a wave from a red slant-nose 911 today on the road between Watford and Radlett, I think around 2pm

924 Carrera GT, left hooker on Putney High street. Gave a thumbs up and they looked at me like I was a mad person.

Yes Simon - I was miles away!

What Christmas shopping with a 15 year old does for you!

Saw a Red 944 today somewhere north af Chester - M56 A470 A560 or somewhere near there! Heading west and I was heading east in the van, so I didn't wave!

Saw a White S2 heading North on the M1 tonight, I was in a Dove House Courtesey Mini and gave a toot and wave as I went past...

Hi Fat Albert that was me! And what's more, that was my very first journey as the new owner of a white 1989 944 S2 with 196k miles on it, since buying it this afternoon from Iain, a PCGB member (see classifieds)! I heard you toot too and presumed you were saying hi!
What awful weather though - I can't remember having to endure such a horrid journey for many years and that was not what I wanted to subject a lovingly and expensively maintained 944 S2 to on its first journey as my new 'occasional' transport. The motorway through Leicestershire & Nottingham was pretty much standing water all the way and there I was driving an unfamiliar car that had only done 3000 miles since 2008 and only 250 miles since February and hadn't been out in any sort of bad weather since a major respray in 2009.
Despite the atrocious conditions the 944 did the 170 mile journey from West Sussex to its new home in West Bridgford, Nottingham without the slightest grumble and felt extremely sure-footed through the rainwater.
I'll introduce myself properly to the forum soon and will be asking for lots of advice in the 944 section, but I already feel part of the club having been 'spotted' on journey number 1.
Mark

Nice story Mark - it's for the spottee to show up on here for a change :) Look forward to your intro thread and plenty of photos [;)] Enjoy your S2

Nice one Mark! Glad you made it home OK and nice to get a response from a Spot for a change!

Hope you enjoy the car, looked a nice one
