rear wiper delete

Tony, Good point about the thickness of the glass and the thickness of Mini bodywork. If I could have a look at one of those without buying it then I would certainly do so, but it may be a bit much of a gamble to just buying blind. However I like the other part you linked to; at 45p it's surely worth a punt!

Tref, you're spot on when you ask what the purpose is. I guess that the concourse boys will always want the best-looking product, but my S2 lives outside and is driven in all weathers; I can't understand the point of automotive trinkets which have no practical use.

Benjj, good scissors. Screwed, not rivetted (allows them to be dismantled and hence re-sharpened.) Fiskars make quality kit, and money spent on tools is rarely money wasted. I salute your choice, sir!

I've always thought the rear wiper on 944's is dam ugly. So on my last two I fitted the Promax bung, but I've just bought this for another car:

£1.35 +P&P

Not sure if it's the right size for the 944.

Top idea, but if it's for a hole of 30mm diameter then it's too big. The hole in 944 glass is (I think) 17mm. Do they do a smaller one?

£10! Told you that Bruce Arn-whatsit was cheap.

Got me Promax jobbies on both cars decent bit of engineering circa £20, been fitted for a few years and they come with o ring seals.

The window is quite thick and the body of a mini thin, so those might not fit. I had an electrical rubber bung in there that cost pence but then went on to a nice machined 2 part one from Jon Mitchell, I think mine was an early test one so very cheap and I am happy to report it hasn't leaked, fallen apart or degraded after 8 ish years

You're one was one of the first ones we did Tony and I remember you testing the living daylights out of it with a jetwash. That was back in the days of the Titanic forum I think.

Glad you guys like the ones from Promax. They were made by us as well :)

Never found a way to improve on them really, even though every now and again we review the design whenever we make another batch.

In my experience tape always comes off.

You better not tell Rick Cannell. ;-)

You've got to love this forum, we are up to two pages on a rear screen wiper delete.

Classiest one I've seen is a champagne cork. [;)]

I'd avoid anything that is tight in the hole and is likely to expand and contract. 944 rear screens are very expensive to replace, and while the "thing" may not break the screen any ingress of dirt could become trapped and start a scratch which could get worse.

In my case, because the mechanism has enough wear in it to rattle very annoyingly. If you turn the wiper on for one sweep then the slack is taken up and it stops rattling for a few minutes, but it's annoying.

Love it, 2 pages about to become 3 on rubbers! [:D][:D]

Just to be obtuse, why would you want to delete the rear wiper?

Because they are plug ugly and bl@@dy useless. [;)]

Because theyre prone to fail (although this seems to happen far less now) and mostly because Porsche never bothered to adapt them for right hand drive, they clear a field for drivers sat in the left hand seat, like series one windscreen wipers.

Simon is right. My early car is absolute cack in the wet as I can't see a blooming thing. The only answer I've come up with is to kick the back out a bit and look out of the side [:D]

I find it very interesting how some posts can start a really good discussion. I personally want to remove the rear wiper as it upsets the smooth line of the rear of the car. I have fitted a bridge style spoiler and it looks better without the wiper. Also the wiper is useless and at speed you don't get water on the back window.

Colin, too true it is interesting, I actually do use the rear wiper and find it useful, mind you agreed not at speed and not going forwards!
