rear wiper delete

is that a fact, that its better to reverse with a warm gear box? if so, how much better? negligible or significant?

More that it's better to do any manouevreing with a warm engine and gearbox than a cold one. So if you can turn the car 'round when you arrive at your destination with everything warm, enabling you to drive straight out when you leave later when things have cooled down, you will do less wear to things.

If it wasn't for the pesky MOT I'd delete the front wipers as well. My car doesn't do rain.

Arrrrg! I've been driving forwards into the garage for 212,000 miles and have surely worn out my gearbox prematurely, what am I to do? :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

We'll be on to 5 pages for a rear wiper thread soon [;)]

Silly boy - do you really need to ask this question? []

You need to reverse into your garage for 424,000 miles; the first 212,000 to undo all the wearing-out you have already done, and the next 212,000 to make your mileometer read the right number! [:)]

Is this the original wiper arm Mike? If so: is there a conventional bent arm style piper fixing underneath the unique side mount which attaches the wiper to the arm.

Sorry Simon missed this.

Believe its the standard arm with the 360 deg bend, introduced 1989 with the 2.7 and S2. It is different from the one on my old square dash.

You can just see on this pic the much larger, thicker arm on the later car.

As an aside the early car motor was attached with round pins into the frame but the 2.7 has flat blades!

My daily driver is a 1988, although I do own a 1989 car too. In all of the years that I have been interested in the cars I didnt notice that the actual arm was different. Is 1989 the change year for the mechanism and the hole in the glass, too?

I had a bung on my turbo race car,was a very nice bung, got it from Promax,I was thinking of getting another bung for my 968 racecar as I have just got a hole.
How's that for padding..?

Don't know about the size of the hole (!) but the '89 arm is much beefier, so probably.

Can't think of another time the change would have taken place, as the S2/ 2.7 was a new model.

Switch to bridge spoiler would be the only other one, but I don't think its likely.

Typically the 89 cars have a different hatch, wiper motor and wiper arm. The pre 89 ones can be spotten because the arm and the blade are in line, whereas on the earlier ones the blade is to the side of the arm (if that makes sense) the in-line arm has a different size spindle, with a different size hole in the tailgate glass. Which is why our bungs (that Promax bulk bought and still have stock of) have a double seal, which is designed to seal on both the earlier and later tailgate hole sizes with both seals working.

Interestingly, they made the change of glass/arm/motor pre-bridge spoiler and some 89's have the earlier arm and some have the later arm.. So a 2.7 may have either type, as do the S2's, which is odd.. maybe there were stock problems so it was a bit of a mix up until all the old types were used up at the factory.

OK, after page upon page I have decided to delete the rear wiper but can't find the Promax bung on their web site.
Maybe one of those glitter-poops might seal the hole ???

Well this thread inspired me to remove my rear wiper (can't bring myself to say I 'deleted' it - ugh!)

This is the bung I used.

It cost me all of 57p (although I had to paint it myself). The observant among you will probably be able to guess where it comes from, and I'm very happy with it!

(I took the wipers off the front at the same time and sprayed them back at the same time. And they look better for it too.)
