rear wiper delete

Oh dear Oli. "Bung" it away and buy a nice one from JMG. I know it'll annoy you to have wasted 57p, but really, using the top of a smarties tube glued to a 50 pence piece is not the way to go. That's a saving too far.

Just to complete the job, and possibly make it to six pages ....

Wiper switch 'deleted' and OPC blank fitted (there may be cheaper alternatives [;)] )

How much was the blank please Paul?

I still have the original Panasonic F35 from my first Turbo in the loft. I cant find the snatch plate for it though, unfortunately. It probably still has my favourite (in 1992) Nirvana tape in it too...

The blank was £1.04 + vat, its quite a neat little piece that fits in fom behind and is totally flush with the console, takes no more than five minutes to do the full job.

Cheers, Paul

The blank was £1.04 + vat,

Blummin 'eck that's pushing the boat out [:D] There are others on here that will recommend the sticky tape and black felt tip solution!

I have that same Panasonic stereo in a box in my garage though I'm sure it has a Sound Garden cassette inside [;)]

I use my switch to power the wideband, though I was tempted to put a tank in the back and plumb in an intercooler spray using the wiper switch.

I bought the Arnnworx bung because I was getting some other stuff at the same time and it was 'only' $15. However the bung turned out to be the same size as the hole in the glass, so not a lot of use. Are American holes smaller?

Later hatches have a smaller hole and a different wiper mechanism. They changed for the 1989 model year or thereabouts and can be identified by the 'normal' rear wiper as opposed to the side mounting type on the earlier models.

Do you still have it?

Simon,

Interesting, thanks. Mine is an '89 model S2 with the side-mount wiper arm and had a much larger hole and I was expecting. At a guess, it was about 22mm diameter.

Oli.

Yes I still have it. More trouble than its worth to send back. My hole is a 1990 so should be small? I will measure my hole to ascertain its exact size.

Id be interest in the bung Jim. How about £10 delivered, which is about what you paid, I believe?

Ive got my eye on your S2 exhaust too, for my 2.7l car, so they might be able to come together... I wont bid against Will though, so we will have to see what happens there.

Just in the process of removing the rear wiper (ProMax bung at the ready) and wonder what tidying up work people have done. The switch blanking plate is a good one, but what about the cable to the motor that goes through the metal tube up the side of the hatch? Any way of removing the tube, or do people cut the connectors and pull the wire through, leaving the tube in place? Also, the bracket at the lower edge of the motor (ie spoiler end) - is it possible to remove that? Interested to know how much final tidying people have done...

Remove cables from the plug carefully, ie don't chop them, make sure no connectors are touching as you don't want a short, heat shrink them and tuck them out of sight. I wouldn't attempt to remove the tube and bracket, they don't jump out tbh and removal may be irreversible in the future should you or a new owner want the wiper refitted.

Cheers, Paul

^^^^ Wot Paul said, but I cut my cables carefully before heatshrinking them. They can be re-attached with a soldering iron if anyone does want to re-install the wiper.

Everything else was left in; tube, bracket and so on. I guess a full on track machine would have all of them (as well as the wires in the loom) removed for lightness.

Oli.
