Wahey, Alan's found more rust! [
]
Not much thankfully and easy to repair, but seemingly left over from a previous bodged repair. A big wedge of filler fell out...

Is there a timescale for completion, or am I asking stupid questions?

I haven't asked for a finish date recently [
], but my aim is for Silvertsone at the latest, hopefully with enough time left over to get the SC fitted and running too.
I think Alan said it'll have the half cage in this week and may even be ready for paint sometime next week... However I have thrown a bit of a spanner in the works, as we've only just offered the intercooler up to the front end and it's a tighter squeeze than anticipated, so he needs to move the mounting brackets to accomodate it. This is also going to mean that almost all of the structure that holds the bonnet latched to will be cut away, with just enough to support the trailing edge of the badge panel left.
The good news is that we tried the oil cooler and it's the perfect size to go where I wanted, which is something of a relief!

Hi Peter,
Great project & great thread, site & pics.
I noticed on one of the door pics that you will fill in the mirror mounting holes. Are you going with no mirror/other mirror? Reason I ask is that that is one area of my car I haven't decided on (along with rear spoiler).
Just to introduce my car a bit: I started with a 924S, but almost seem to parallel your expenditure: Mine needed both outer sills, one inner sill, one front wing, and one rear quarter. It has fiberglass bonnet & sunroof (I'm a cheapskate), the old saggy Plastics4Performance rear hatch, KW V3 suspension, S2 plastic tank, new fuel & brake lines, 4 pot callipers, and, now that I am a proud owner of a written off S2, it is soon to have a 3L engine care of ProMax.

Thanks Sean. The mirrors will be the Spa carbon gt mirrors. In an ideal world I'd have preferred to have gone for the DTM mirrors, but given the amount of road use I do and the limitations of plastic screens I decided these were a better bet. They weigh nothing, but I'm not sure how long they'll last.
Your car sounds like a brilliant project. I was extremely happy with my setup before the latest changes and it was pleasingly rapid on track despite its comparatively low power. What are you going to do for traction? I assume the narrow body limits you a little on tyre width, so are you going to use an LSD too? I'd imagine the 924 shell will be quite a bit lighter as well. One day I'd love to get some cars onto a weighbridge to find out what is really going on (perhaps at the next dyno day?).
I asked P4P to make my screen 1mm thicker than normal (5mm instead of 4) so we'll see if that helps reduce the sagging. They've also used their top plastic material, although I'm not sure if this'll make any difference (except to the size of the dent in my wallet). If it becomes a problem then I saw a really neat idea on a F430 race car where they'd used clear acrylic bar to brace the screen, it looked much less intrusive than the usual metal strips.

Hi Peter,
Despite my best efforts, the car still weighs 1150 kg..and will gain (at least) 25 kg with the 16V engine. If I was doing it again, I'd start with a bare shell, and blast all the Wurth muck off the underside.. still, at least the C of G is about as low as it is ever going to get.
I'm currently running Fuchs 16x6 with 205/55 on the rear, but can get in a D90/Cup 16x8 wheel with 225/50 if I raise the rear ride height a bit, so traction isn't that bad, the Cerbera I had before had 235s on the rear, and 340 reasonably genuine BHP.. The expense of swapping the drive line means an LSD or TBD will have to wait a year, but the Guard LSD looks favourite: Though I am quite interested in what the Japanese effort is like, as featured in last months 911& Porsche world.
Let me know how you get on with the new P4P screen. My main concerns are scratching/yellowing, a bit of sag at my car's age is perfectly acceptable ;-). Getting the plastic screen into the standard frame made me some enemies at the last place that had to fit it, so I am loth to do it again, unless the results are pretty good.

1150kg is prettty good for a road legal car, I wont be anywhere near that [
]
Traction on mine is excellent with 255's without LSD, although I too will be looking into this when funds allow. I had a ride in the orange racecar with the Japanese diff and it seemed to work very well so it's definately on the list.
My last plastic screen (not p4p) got scratched and yellowed after 4 years or so, although I made it worse by trying to polish it out which was a big mistake. I had my first one fitted by a local firm that specialise in fitting plastic screens for JCB's and the like, they did a good job and didn't charge the earth, but I'm not sure who we'll use to fit the latest one (probably just the same people refitting the windscreen). I've not seen my new screen yet (it's still boxed up) but they've put a black border around it so it should look really good (they had to, apparently the plastic coating used is so slippery that nothing will stick to it otherwise!).

Just come back from visiting my car, there's not a huge amount to see so I wasn't sure I should bother with another update. However the front end is now almost completely finished, with almost all of the bracketry in place and the intercooler is now rigidly installed. The IC is a surprisingly tight fit which I didn't expect given the size of the bumper, I'm going to have to be mighty careful not to nurf any kerbs as that could get really expensive. I'm very pleased with the fitment of the panels, Alan has put a lot of work into it and it really shows (there's a little tweaking necessary at the bottom of the bumper, but that's all).
The car has been turned around and for the first time I've been able to see its appearance from a reasonable distance and I think it's taking shape nicely. Subtle it is not
Alan reckons there's a chance it may be ready in time for Silverstone, but at just over 2 weeks away I will be stunned (and ecstatic) if that's the case.

Wow those panel gaps are smaller than a standard car []
Aftermarket bits made from glassfibre and plastic are supposed to be wonky and look shonky - you need to have a word with this Alan guy, he seems to know what he's doing [8D]
I was dead chuffed with the panel gaps, especially the one between badge panel to bonnet. Alan told me today that he used to do a lot of work on TVR's which helps explain his skills [

Careful he doesn't think aluminium castings are just for important stuff like glove box hinges and replace your suspension with mild steel box-section bits and paint them so thinly they go rusty in 5 minutes, then [
Actually, that front looks better than I thought it would. I did have slight qualms about the bumper, fearing that it would look like little more than a solid block of ... well, fibreglass I guess, but the distinct 'bumper' line with the skirt below it doesn't look that bad!

Saucer of milk for the man in NZ then! (Although I can't possibly disagree. Thinking of that TVR which was all up in the air at the Silverstone Dyno Day last October ... [ORIGINAL: Fen

I like the bumper a lot [
It will look awesome when fully painted and the whole car matches in the same shade of white

Spot on Paul, the bumper was supplied by Simon at ESS and was manufactured by GT Racing (as was the sunroof panel).
The headlights are made by Clubautosport, but if I'm honest I can't recommend them for anything other than a racecar. They're not particularly cheap and the fitment of lens to bucket is poor (the acrylic is very poorly cut, the other set which have ended up on Simon's car had a gap at the front you could get a finger through!). I'm just planning on using them as a temporary solution until deutschnine.com release theirs (we just needed to get the pop-up assembly out of the way to resolve any fitment issues of the SC, washer bottle and bonnet aero latches). If for some reason they don't produce them then I'll revert to the original plan of having my own lenses made by Plastics4performance.

Peter - there's a DIY guide for lights on 924.org. Might be worth a look
