Rolling Road day at JamSport Northampton 19/06/04

My details don't seem to have made it onto the spreadsheet either Rick - I'll email a scan over to you later.

Cheers
dan
PS I think you took my photo on the 2nd leg of the Cotswold Rally (D922 MEA) - once you get round to sorting them out I'd like to see a copy if poss as I don't currently have any pics of me driving the car - thanks.

well what a load of rubbish that was, I could have mowed my lawn or taken the mrs shopping instead, cheers guys.[:-]

only joking cheers for a fab day, it was great to meet you all and i was chuffed with the results on my std turbo, i think she passed the health check!

shame we did not get to witness the might of the turbot.

catch you all soon.

Rich.

I think my baby weeing oil all over the rollers counts as disgracing itself []

Booked in to Francis Tuthills for a new oil return tube to be fitted. Hopefully I'll pop up tto Jamsport and get it done soon afterwards.

Cheers

Andy

There is no disgrace in standing out from the crowd Andy. Far better that you should chuck oil all over some rollers then throw it out on a track or roundabout where other cars could have been damaged as a result.

You, as I, had a valuable session learning something about our cars. Others, on the other hand, just got to inflate their egos [;)] Only kidding boys, honestly.

I will try and get on the rollers ASAP and join up to the database....

Watch this space for some nice numbers... [;)]

To be representative, the run has to be on the same dyno under the same conditions.

Dyno runs can be notoriously inconsistent (I've seen the same car make 10% difference on two dynos in 2 days).

Are you going to make it to our next dyno day ? Possibly further north if someone organises one that a lot of the more northern listers can get to easily ?

Possibly further north

I didn't think there was much north of Northampton. Does the M1 continue beyond that then? And why? [;)]

I have always been told that a dyno is only a tool to check and make changes to an engine - ie, Is it better or worse than the previous setting? Roller figures vary so much from establishment to establishment that the overall read out is almost irrelevant. If there is a BS calibration test, I don't know how many use it.

Obviously, comparing cars run on the same rollers, at the same time, on the same day is a relative test, so Paul and Tony still get the prize - even more so as they ran later in the day. On the other hand, it did rain so the air could have been damper and cooler so this could have given them an advantage [;)] Complex isn't it!

Surely not , a man from Essex stating there is nothing North Of Northampton - well let me tell you , we have Blackpool Tower, quite a few seagulls, plenty of fish and chip shops, great greyhound racing, Kendal Mint Cake, Boddingtons, Eccles Cakes and cheaper houses, well cheaper everything really ! [:D][:D]

ROTFLMFHO

The excuses have started already...... [;)]

Dont worry i wont rub it in too much mate.

Have you got your TiAL all nicely installed now Stephen? 17psi to the redline should easily be 330bhp. Why aren't you going for the full 18psi that your chipset can give you?

I fear you will be surpassed when Mr Sims gets his MAP kit setup properly [8D]

You big power guys [8|] [:)][:D]

Here's my chart for the site Rick. Enjoyed the pics! Any chance I could get a hi-res version of the Cotswold shot where my car is driving away from the camera?

Cheers

Yes tial is all fitted, i am waiting till i get the car on the rollers before i explore the oost abit further. I have one of the earlier editions of the 18psi chipset. I think that its mapped for a drop in boost above 5k rpm i.e. a standard wastegate. Once i get a decent A/F map with boost i will email Danno and get another chip done to optimise the set up.

I take it Mr Sims is going for bigger injectors with the MAP kit? 330-340bhp will be runnig 100% duty on the standard injectors.

Yip the game is indeed moving on, soon Andy Sweets beast will not be so unusual.

Next year i have lots planned, either that or the more likely possibility that i have to sell the car to pay off the credit card!!!

Well its fun while it lasts...[;)]

Not unless Mr Cannell goes up again and I can blag his 55's. I am keen to keep BKE at his current set up at the moment to give Andrew a benchmark set up for MAP on a 220 - thats what I bought and thats what he is sorting out. That said, the chip does also have mapping for 55's so perhaps I'd be better with them - it might work then [8|]

Once you start to go further it all escalates, as you are then restricted by the turbo, and the intercooler. 55's might give fueling for 18 psi and + 360 bhp but will the intercooler and turbo provide enough air?

Either way, whilst currently limited by injectors, MAP should give a far more linear power delivery with what power there is available sooner - IIRC we saw 200+ @ 3K'ish rpm, with boost knocked well back, on Saturday.

.'. 330 with MAP is potentialy going to be more effective than 330 with a barn door.

The air is denser up in scotland anyway

Not necessarily, you might have to take into account altitude loss. [:D]

There's shed loads of dynos in Maldon, but I don't know about RR's. That would be a great place to go, it's a sea level.

Yes and Glasgow is like 2000m [8D]

I did wonder if you might have a leak in the boost line from the banjo bolt to cycling valve/cycling valve to wastegate. If it is perished it could be working like a bleed valve and allowing more boost. If you start triggering the overboost this might be a worthwile check. Otherwise don't worry about it.
Lovely original car though.
Tony

Funny by the time Fen gets his back on the road with 400+bhp then everyone else will be not too far behind and he will have to start again...[;)]

Fen stop messing about and just go for 500bhp you know it makes sense. [:D]
