Rolling Road Day for article for 911 & Porsche Mag

Hi

Went to R8 meeting last night 30 miles or so, 5 miles to go battery light came on. Drove on to club meet checked assuming no fan belt as I had heard something but it was still there.

Drove home on the battery, side lights on the motorway where there is lighting headlights where not, finally gave up 400yds from home!

Got it back easily enough, I'd lost a bolt from the tensioning shaft, easily replaced but I have also put a later alternator, which I had at home.

Still looking good for saturday, any news of mag interest, If not I'll bring my camera and we'll do one for PP?

Mike

Hello all

Steve Bennett has e mailed today to say he is organising or in the process of sorting someone out to come along,
fingers crossed!!!

Nick is bringing his camera along in his beetle too[;)][;)][;)]

See you all saturday morning

Lee

Hi guy's

Well just took the car out for drive ( not been used for two weeks) and gave her a quick blast, all seems ok for saturday ( well except the copius amounts of black smoke at 100% throttle , none if backed of a small amount to say 97%...:) though)
I'll try to reduce that before Saturday and seems i need to get that front crank seal done soon as it's getting worse. Well it will be a good excuse to change the belts, check the oil sender ( lost 1 bar when hot) etc etc anyway.
Would be nice to try a few different setting's while on the rollers, not had the car set up since 2007 and the Apexi needs lots of setting up to get the max from it.
Think it will be while though before a new remap is done, need to get the V-flex , large exhaust, new throttle body at least before I spend out £500+ on a remap...

Oh the joy's of Porsche ownership.. is everyone as mad as me of just the small minority?

Hello All

Right update re tomorrow.

The MAG are coming to do a photo and write up on rolling road.

See below e mail from Steve Bennett:

"I've got a photographer booked for Saturday. His name is John Colley and he's done these sorts of rolling road shootouts before, plus he's very good. We will need a group shot of all the cars outside the rolling road before the action starts.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]
[FONT=verdana, geneva"]I'm not going to be able to make it sadly. Nothing to do with distance, just prior commitments. Could I ask you to collect the dyno print outs and supply me with contact details of the owners, so I can talk to them and get the story. If there is a completely standard 944, it would be useful to use that as a benchmark both n/a and turbo. Obviously very keen on the before and after MAF kit(Alex thats you). I will make sure John gets pics of that being fitted too."[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]If everyone can give me an indication of approx arrival times that would be great then can arrange a group piccie[:D][FONT=verdana, geneva"]Weather still looking good for tomorrow too.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]Cheers[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]Lee[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]

I'm actually rather gutted that I'm not coming along in my old 944 turbo - always wanted to know what it was kicking out versus what was claimed for the Lindsey Racing kit fitted.

Are we all running on normal 95RON unleaded or super-duper 'jungle juice'?![:D]

Rocket Fuel me [:D][:D][:D]

Target time 9:00 - 9:30 but 2 1/2 hour drive!
My fuel cap says I must use 98- just noticed that - usually use sainsburys 97 but may look for some good stuff tonight.
Mike

I'll be using 98 octane, with all my mods I shouldn't use less to be honest but it gets expensive and if I'm just driving normally then I'll use 95. ( can't remember being so silly.. oh yes last 3 RR sessions..lol)Filled up last night £1.11 per litre... gulp.[&:]

Checked the fuel yesterday and as I suspected it was running a little high ( 50psi) so that's been turned down and the car feels pretty good, although I haven't been able to floor it to check for smoke in high gears it certainly doesn't have any up to 3rd. so I'm happy...[:)][:)]

Oh and I plan to be there before 10 , of course I'm coming a long way so can't be certain.. I'll do my best.. early start 5:30am... geeze.. have the kettle on guy's think I'll need it[8|][8|]

Could I ask you to collect the dyno print outs and supply me with contact details of the owners, so I can talk to them and get the story.

In light of this request can we arrange with Steve to give everyone two copies of all dyno runs as I'm sure others are like myself and keep them all in their Porsche Safe binder....[8D]

Nick I've always found lindsey claims to be pretty reliable and good quality ( well except for work done to stage 2 head) I would have thought your old car should have been close if not more than Lindsey quoted.

It certainly felt as fast as the figures would lead you to expect! The new owner is dropping by on Saturday afternoon to pick up the original front undertray that i removed when i fitted the front splitter. Looking forward to seeing yours, especially as it is in the fastest colour by far....[;)]

Nick ,it's a given that red is the fastest colour, I thought everyone knew that, some insurance companies used to by charging more for red.....lol Still you and I know what colour is the fastest and that's all that matters...[8D]
