Saratoga Sunroof - Bulk-Buy

Yes mine has been refunded.

Right, I've had enough of this nonsense. I was one of the very first to pay for the roof (before the email from Nick came out). I never received it; I got a call asking to arrange collection from the Heathrow depot AFTER the recall decision. Now I have an impending credit card bill and no sign of a refund.

Can anyone suggest a good reason why I don't tell Pilkington to shove their sunroof where it would be completely unnecessary?

My one was collected this afternoon, after 3 emails to chase up collection....

I'm giving it until close of day tomorrow for the money to be refunded or I'll be emailing Nick on Friday morning.

Mind-boggling.

I paid on the day after receiving the email, for collection from Redditch (where I understood they were being held anyway) and have never heard anything further once they confirmed payment had been received.

I contacted Pilkington about 8 years ago and they wanted about £900 for a 1 off, so this looks a very good buy.

At the rate this group buy is going I think I might give it a miss, I will have a rare car - non glass sunroof model :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Oh...!

Fully Refunded!!!

Will we ever see these sunroofs on our cars...

(Hopefully but I'm not holding much hope!)

I'm thinking it will all come down to money and the will to get it sorted. Obviously the original, reissued product was not fit for purpose. To get it to work correctly will require a level of design input and trial fabrication of components. This will take time and time is money. It will also take a desire to get it sorted and I wonder if Pilkington could really be bothered.

Obviously there was a level of profit included in the cost of the sun roofs. However, the extra cost in recovering the panels (what would that be if you hired a courier) will have eaten in to that margin. Then to spend more in developing a solution and more again in shipping out the revised products? If I were Pilkington it might seem like sending good money after bad. Granted, if you did actually get, and pay for, your revised sunroof Pilkington would get money coming back where as currently it is a complete loss. There is therefor some hope. Unfortunately, they will soon know what the whole exercise has cost and will have a view on the cost of the revisions, the reshipping and the on going liability.

As some have already said, ignoring the breaking latch issues there were wonky seals and wonky hook stays. These were all quality issues. Even if your latches hadn't broken would you be willing to accept these issues or expect a roof with straight seals, which seal, and aligned hooks?

I would be delighted for you guys if I were proved wrong but I very much doubt you will ever be seeing another 944 sunroof from Pilkington.

And yet the septics loved the them, either the original fixings/seals cost too much to reproduce or the know how was lost. My bet is they're headed for a skip and the cost has been written off.

That would be such a waste, they would be better off letting us buy back the glass and work amongst ourselves to resolve the catches and seals, at least then they would recoup some of their manufacturing costs.

Well at least some people are being refunded. Still haven't heard anything - further emails sent!
I only got my refund after numerous requests then demands.

I suggest you keep asking !

Has everyone sent theirs back now? I haven't bee around to, but do have one broken, and one non-broken fitting I have been carrying around with me to have a look at... Now a question... On closer examination I find an O-ring at the top, with no provision for it either under the domed monkey-metal part, or in the plastic top-hat below it. If I were assembling this lot up, I would put the O-ring between the two plastic top-hats. I reckon it would/could effect a better seal there, and reduce the height/extend the thread engagement length without any other modification. OK, I could be wrong, it is only an extra mm, it is still crap material, but I do wonder if this is simply an assembly issue?

I know, I know, my seal was a bit wonky as well... but I wonder if that would pull up a bit in situ (and again, if it is more to do with the care in assembly rather than anything fundamental.

Unfortunately it is unlikely I will get a chance to look further, and I really should do as asked and package it up and send it back!

Oh, and as far as I can see, three Belleville washers - now I didn't pay close enough attention when it fell apart, or before I removed it, but I wonder again about the assembly order, as there isn't enough room as far as I can see for the way I think they were assembled, but there may be in another configuration.

Not wanting to add "fuel to the fire" but when i first read this thread i must admit that the roofs seemed "very good value for money" bearing in mind that a handbrake cable,,shoes and some labour came to £250 when i had this work done a few weeks back,,,

i thought these roofs would have been £600-£800 and maybe they costed them wrong hence the problems with the cheap fittings?,,

just a thought,,,,,

i really hope people get there roofs and in perfect condition,,,,,,jasonp

"Update from Nick at Pilkingtons: "Good Afternoon All, Just to keep you up to date I have received the new nuts and tested a few panels out. The replacements are good, no issues that I can see. We will start to replace the nuts this week and most likely into the new year given my production days are rapidly diminishing before we shut for Christmas. I have issued refunds as requested to some of you, in these cases we will check with you individually first and then go through the order process again (taking payments/arranging delivery etc). For those of you that have not been refunded we will just send back out to you as and when we complete the rework (unless you instruct me otherwise). Please let me know if you want to change any information on your orders or anything else at all regarding the panels. I am aware that the trim application seems to be slightly wavy on some of the panels, we will check for this here when we replace the nuts but my scope to alter the trim is very limited. I do have a few spare panels so if any are below par ill swap them round. Many thanks Regards Nick" "

I started reading this wishing I had seen the original posting and added my name to the list...

Having read the thread (well the start and end of it) I still find myself wanting one.. Even though I would probably never us it, I have the Genuine ski rack, the auto dimming rear view mirror, luggage nets, this is one accessory I have never had... Will they be selling off the refunded ones cheap? lol

I believe there was some surplus shipped (to allow for breakages) so if you got in touch...
