Sat Nav/TMC

Folks this sounds like a horrible state of affairs, very bad costomer relations management by Porsche, in fact it sucks.

If my present employer did this we would see streams of customers going elsewhere, they are really taking the pee out of our loyalty to the brand, further move the club seems to be sitting on the fence on this one - perhaps not wanting to upset the new "partners".

I'm sorry to mention this but how about dropping a line to Top or fifth Gear or even Watchdog, bad publicity normally brings a positive response

Did Robin Walker raise this issue at a Board meeting - as he promised that he would? I presume that our illustrious Board with its disinterested Chairman (at least in this issue) has met since the Festival?

Delbox,

I'm afraid not. I believe the issue is in the too-hard box. It still stands that we're effectively waiting for a goodwill gesture - I put the reasoning for this earlier in the thread - and at the moment we are in a stalemate. We've put the case forward, right to the top and we've been through our own club hierarchy. In summary

- we approached the PGB MD
- we approached the PCGB board
- we approached PGB customer service
- we approached our own OPC's

I can confirm (from my local OPC yesterday) that the new DVD upgrade is £349 plus VAT retail price. The guys there know less than we do about TMC. Don't forget we'll need a new DVD and a PCM software upgrade by the OPC to v2.1

I do communicate with the guys above on a weekly basis, but there is no decision as yet. I know that for us as individuals, most of us could decide yes or no very quickly, but as I've said before there's no 'compelling-event or reason' for anyone in the chain to make a speedy decision.

I do have face-to-face meetings with the above late this month - for the first time since the August festival - and I will be pushing...

In the meantime can anyone work out how to make this compelling ?

I know a couple of guys from Glasgow, who are pretty handy with baseball bats.[][][:D] It looks like this subject will not be resolved by diplomacy. So maybe George Bush's administration could cook up some compelling reasons.[;)]

Hi Michael, I'm afraid you will need a software flash to v2.1 on the PCM before the disc will work - otherwise a new disc in PCM v2.0 will just read 'incorrect disc inserted'. Geoff997 tried this first back in April ! Having seen some of the technical workshop notes, the previous disc was Navteq, the upgraded disc isn't... Software upgrade should be FOC by an OPC under warranty.

To quote from the Tequipment catalogue:
Navigation Update - part no 000 044 900 88
System and map update for navigation systems still running model year 2005 (!) Key benefits include greater precision during navigation operations. The new map data includes a number of new countries and a much higher level of detail. Other new features include destination input with postcode search, Traffic Message Channel (TMC) for additional regions and full integration with the optional electronic logbook.

If anyone wants to buy an upgraded disc, I've negotiated a special discount at OPC Solihull for £289 plus VAT as a contingency for not getting a result on a free upgrade. Speak to Andy Reville, the manager of the Parts Dept and mention my name, any problems please let me know.

When I'm next at OPC, will check accuracy of new maps. I assume they are dated later than 04/2005? Becauase that versions mapping is still hopelessly out of date.

Hi Rob
I may well take the offer up on the disc unless my OPC here can match that price for the disc. I presume that an upgrade will require a hardware/software installment as awell as the disc? Any ideas on how much this might cost (for both the disc and the required update)?
I have an ex-demo 997S (which we are STILL negotiating over!) on the way from my local OPC, and I have told them that I would like an upgrade to the Sat-Nav to equal or better that on my June 05 987S. I would presume that waiting until next March would then ensure I get the 2006 version, which hopefully will be more accurate still.
I hardly ever drive in the UK, mostly France, so the TMC issue for me might not be so pressing.
Any advice gratefully received!
Cheers

Folks, isn't this what Porsche GB are stalling for, one by one you will purchase the upgrades and the issue will slowly go away over time .

IMHO could it not be the case that if no one buys the upgrade and collectively people continue lobbying OPC's, etc (I believe it's something that people can live without until the issue is resolved). Sooner or later they will have to take some action either greatly reduce the cost or give them away.

It's a huge matter of principle not cost and will be an indicator of what expect in the future from Porsche unless we point them in the right direction

HAGGLE!
That implies you are prepared to pay, it's just a question of agreeing the price.
Words like edge, thin and wedge spring to mind.

Hi

I've just had a chat with the dealer principle of the OPC that I purchased my car from. I have been a customer of his for more than 15 years and he was very understanding etc etc.

He agreed that he would arrange for a free upgrade to TMC but that I would have to pay labour costs of about 90 minutes. I thought this a fair deal and we shook on it.

Should have the system up and running early in the new year.

I decided to bypass my salesman and his manger and go to the top. Worked for me.

Michael,
I hope you had her fixed. The 9 is fantastic, just been for at's first 1000 mile shake down service, they had it for a week. Fixed everything. They then came back to me and said that they had spotted two paint defects one on the roof and boot lid, and the rear bumper was not right (went through it all myself couldn't see it myself, until they pointed it out to me under a microscope) Roof fault could be bird poo; bumper could be someone getting too close when parked. I thought this will be a battle, but no, said they would need the car for two weeks and will do it all under warranty, no question. [:)]
Only problem , they don't understand the concept of supplying courtesy cars..."we don't have the need for them sir; may I ask, is this your only car???"[:D][:D]
Very happy days,

Now it was my understanding that the upgrade was just a matter of inserting a CD and Flash writing to the PCM. This should take a few minutes, so where does the extra 80 or so minutes go? The nitty gritty is that yet another different price/deal has been agreed by an OPC. This time it's about £150. Did you get the enhanced features as well e.g. post code entry? Are the maps up to date? If so then just maybe this deal is a reasonable compromise that others might accept.

Hi Geoff

I am not entirely sure what the labour time would be. The dealer pricipal in fairness didn't know what time was involved.

As far as I am aware he agreed on the TMC issue and the upgraded maps ( i did tell him that the current maps do not have the M6 toll on them ) .

He also mentioned that when sat nav was first available on uk cars some years ago the UK disc did not have Scotland or N Ireland,.

I will keep you posted

Regards

I too have a MY06 997 2CS and the TMC works as the sat nav has dynamically recalculated routes using traffic info

Hi everyone
just joined PCGB so new to this. Took delivery of a 997 C4 CAB ON 1/12/05 so not had it a week yet. Does anyone know what the latest revision of the navteq dvd is the one we were supplied with was 4/2005 is this the latest? Also is there a postcode search option as not found it (probably me being thick).

Any questions about my 997 c4 welcome.

regards

Simon

04.2005 is the latest disc supplied as standard fit on new cars. Postcode addressing is made through entering the first 5 digits of the code into the first address line; thereafter, it will be obvious.

Hi
Thanks for that I knew it was me being thick. Touble is I use a pioneer avic x1 in my jeep and tomtom mobile in the van and not very familiar with this one yet but getting there. Is there any way of changing colors on the pcm display when cds/radio lists, menus are up?

Cheers

Simon
