As a bonus, the work also includes removal of the rear axle & gearbox, which means.....
I get a free Brake Fluid and Clutch Fluid Change (Woopee?), and they also need to do a full 4 wheel castor camber toe in / out also. I'll get them to do the gearbox oil while it's off to - should only cost me the oil.
As they're mixing paint anyway, I'm also going to get them to deal with a couple of 50p dints in the roof, as well as a couple of mm of rust creeping through the windscreen seal on the passenger side.

It really depends on how they have been driven and what sort of use they get. The springs (or the rubber doughnut in an S2 plate) can break through age/fatigue though and that means it all has to come out regardless of wear and for that reason I'd put in a new one if I was anywhere near in the area.

Blimey Carl, that is good news, and if they know the whole forum is watching its bound to be a good repair []
My original Turbo clutch was changed at 70k miles just before I bought it, if that's any help deciding how we spend your money on extras []
I bet the wastegate is cream crackered, and the turbo and AFM are bound to be toast too [8D]. Might want to get a new set of injectors and a new intercooler just to be safe as well [

I'll have to jump in front of a bus to get more comp[X(]
I've just looked on ECP, and a new Clutch is ÂŁ333.00 + Vat. Given a 10% discount (I know a man who can!), that's ÂŁ350 inc VAT. Might just be worth doing. The garage might be able to get me a bit more than that, but we'll wait and see. My Tax ran out today, so I'll save ÂŁ13.75 a month for that. Where to get the other ÂŁ300 from....
As for the rest, I'll be saving the penny jar for one of Andrew's Stage 3 kits[

Suprisingly, it doesn't look half as bad once all of the floppy bits have been taken off.
The boot floor especially isn't anywhere near as bad as I thought - the boot carpet had ruffled up rahter than the floor. Only p!sser is that I'm going to lose my build sticker! Once stripped, it was pretty clear that the car was in better nick than I could have expected of a 15 year old car - no rust what so ever on the back end!
PS - I asked aboutt he Clutch, er.......
and looked a bit stupid when they pointed out that the clutch was in the front of the car, and not the transaxle[
On the plus side, I'm getting the two annoying dints in the roof sorted out for the price of a couple of hours labour [
The pic below shows all of the damaged parts. Everything in the pic is being renewed, with exception of the boot floor (which just needs straightening - even the paint isn't cracked!)

But the main agro of replacing the clutch is dropping the transaxle to allow the torque tube to be moved out of the way, so if they are out already, now's the time to do it [

I'll ask how much (although to be honest I haven't noticed any wear in the clutch at all) - and once the car is on the hoist, I'll have a spy at the fuel pipes too.
I'm expecting the car to be on the hoist next week.
Out of interest, I was quite surprised by the size of the exhaust (Diameter wize). It's quite large! And also in really good nick (the back box was from 97, but the rest is original.)

Yes it is pretty beefy (and heavy also). My original one finally rusted at the tailpipe last September. I replaced it with a Dansk polished stainless steel one which was half the weight (7kg as opposed to 15kg)

Quick update, as I haven't heard (or seen) my car for a while.
The car is now on the jig (to allow fitment of the rear wing. quarter panel etc.), and as such, it is on a ramp.
This means that I can go down on Tuesday (it's closed over the weekend) and take pictures of the bottom of my car (mostly for the history) - will post some pictures here on Tuesday eve, but again are there anyone who needs pictures of various bits of the underneath? (The last errrr none of you who needed pictures all got them done(?)).
Will also be getting my price for the clutch, so would like to know what's reasonable (bearing in mind the state of dissasembly!)
Would also like to add my thanks for the support (tear in my eye) that you lot have given me. It's like AA for car geeks.
Not only has the support been appreciated, it's also been extremely useful!
