Something i have been working on!

Blown away by the availability of small silly trim parts still available for these cars, not madly expensive either at the OPC with club discount, although i did politely refuse the new digital clock after hearing the price(mine has a leak on the LCD)managed to source a used tested one.It was either that or just put a bit of black tape over it[:D]Cannot wait for this weather to clear!

Just booked car in on thursday to have a few bits fitted, new number plate, trims, door seal, air filter box,and a couple of little other things, its the first time its going into the OPC next door to my work, they punched in the chassis number and it is due a recall- a check on a fuel line...bit late maybe?[:D]

The recall system or the fuel system??Its weird the whole recall thing its a 1988 car and its 2010,why would they bother? The fuel lines have been checked recently alot so i know they are ok,its just a factory check they have to do with any cars passing through the dealer network i bet..
I did ask them if they had a broom handle handy, they looked confused( i then explained they would need it to hold the plastic bonnet open[:D])

The fuel line on the front of the fuel rail is subject to a recall.
If there is no trace of replacement in their system I believe they will replace it even if it was replaced elsewhere at some point.

Some things you think you won't miss you realise you actually do when they are gone.... for example driving home on a friday great mood-no music system!Trying to climb into the car when its been raining and wet and trying to climb in and you put your hand on the roof to steady yourself nearly slip and injure something vital..believe it or not i went for the windscreen wiper at the back the other day aswell...then trying to get in the car in a pitch black car park no interior lighting....they put this stuff in the car for a reason!!Apart from that its running really well and the to do list(tidying up) is shrinking slowly. The stuff that has come off has made a real difference to the feel of the car(anyone that drove it can feel the massive difference you don't need to be a driving god or master mechanic) it feels like a crisp packet compared to a fully kitted out road car,the seat runners definetly have to come out and the seat has to be bolted down to the floor this will lower the seat quite a bit and make entry and exit a bit easier,as would a dash mounted horn so i can fit the steering wheel removable boss, totally forgot you need a horn for an MOT[:D].

Do you think you'll be able to make it all the way to Rutland with no music though - thats the important point!

Hi Guys

Great car Mark... A question on the fuel line recall... when was this issued.. surely our cars won't be covered.. is it just an advisory or an official recall where Porsche replace the item FOC. Failing this does anyone know how much a replacement costs and what part number to use?

I ask as I have just bypassed (today) this line temporarily due to it looking very worn with cracks in it, for now I have connected the damper fuel line directly to the fuel rail, of course this is not statisfactory with pulsing felt threw the fuel lines due to not having the damper connected but much safer than having the line fail resulting in a fire and lost car...:(

Free factory recall,if your chassis number has it outstanding the OPC is obliged to carry out the recall check and any nessacery bits for free, gratis, nowt. They just changed a huge looking steering column UJ on our 1990 C4 for free, took them hours and it was a fairly sizable part, really worth checking if you are concerned. The blue car hadn't been in to an OPC for a while and it was there the minute they popped in the chassis number.Porsche get a lot of stick for being profiteers but this is great product backup.

Mark

What are you doing about padding for the roll cage? I would guess the bars at the top of the doors come pretty close to your head?

I looked at the FIA padding - it's so hard it doesn't seem like you could even call it padding!

If a fault has been identified either by a design flaw or by a manufacturing batch issue, then Porsche has a duty of care to advertise the fact and make the repair available to all for ever or until such time that Porsche can prove that all the cars at risk have been subjected to the inspection or replacement - or until such time they can prove all cars have been scrapped. In the event of the worse case happening as long as Porsche can prove it has done all it reasonably can to mitigate/fix the issue then they are legally covered.

Thursday it is,really looking forward to it would love some dry laps....bought some padding from Grand prix racewear last week ,dropped the car at EMC today for some last minute jobs padding being one of them. The seat is coming off the runners and is being bolted to the floor so should give some increased distance away from the bars...can't wait to see how it goes!

I'll try to pop in and say hello later in the afternoon (once you've got used to the new lightweight handling and braking distance [;)] )
