Something i have been working on!

Great result Mark, it was a hoot hanging out with you all weekend too . . . the next round is on me [:D]

Fantastic result Mark [8D][8D][8D]

Anyone that knows you will realise just how modest you are, so this win and podium is a really big deal. Keep it up [:D]

Try to ensure that any camera you use utilises a CCD, as opposed to a CMOS sensor. Its the CMOS devices which frequently suffer from 'jelly lens'.

Well firstly that camera is freaking me out. It seems to self level against gravity and locate the horizon.

Ha ha, it's because its simply a cylindrical bullet cam that was velcroed to the ceiling by the sun visor. Normally I also use some Duck Tape to keep it still through the corners but on that day I'd forgotten it so the camera rolled round the corners, appearing to self level [:D]

Having a couple of very gentle upgrades done to my race car at Promax including an EBC..have a question does the Greddy "B" have a memory for when the power is switched off with the kill switch?Pretty sure it does as the red car has a greddy and hasn't forgot ever its settings, can someone put my mind at rest and confirm this?

Sorry to "bump" but would love to know how a Greddy EBC remembers its settings when the power is switched off, does it have battery backup or does it write it's settings to an EPROM or something like that?Any Greddy experts out there??Would just like reassurance that it will remeber settings if i turn of the battery with "kill switch" in racecar.
Done lots of searches but can't find anything that makes sense.....

Car has done good, nearly at the end of its first season of club racing done pretty much the entire CSCC future classics calender and it has held together touch wood really well will it make it to the end????[8|]
Was just looking through some of the earlier pictures on this thread and i did smile to myself when i remember how pernickerty i was when it was being put together cosmetically, what a waste of time, as it now looks like it has been shot in the face at point blank, and is very similar down the sides...The biggest change to the car has been the upgrade to 17 inch wheels, what a difference in adhesion especially on the Dunlop race tyres, the turbo had to be replaced(with a standard new item from Porsche) which was fairly expensive, and its appetite for front discs is pretty scary,i have started to get them skimmed after a race to get another go at each set..
Two more race days to go (two 40 min races on each),Snetterton 17th October and Donnington on Halloween including a night race.....
Fingers crossed it will survive, after seeing a car i knew fairly well get demolished at Brands i think every time i load it up to take it home i will be majorly relieved, must say i am very attached to it now, shared some hairy moments together, torential downpour at Spa,just missed tyre walls at Mallory, other cars at numerous races, been airborne a few times at Snetterton and Cadwell... and been on grass at speed which is a new experience[&:][:D]!At the end of the season i will take a stack of pictures of her sore bits,a table of her results and some times aswell. Not many turbo 944s being raced that i know of anyway in the UK - one other turbo running in Future classics and one more in GT cup, will there be some more next season???????????????

Hi Mark,

Just read through this thread.

What can I say? Wow!!

Really pleased you are having such a blast, and what a great job you have made of the car!

I'd really love to do the the same but I don't think that space and funds will allow. One day maybe.....

I'm surprised I never see you around as we live so close - I presume you are still in the same place?

I probably can't make Snetterton but I'll definately come to watch at Donnington.

Best Regards

Thanks Graham, always wanted to have a go at club racing- especially a 944 turbo(EMC motorsport made me realise i could actually have a crack at going from track days to racing),sounds cheesy probably (apologies for that)but 2010 is something i will remember for the rest of my life, found out alot of things about what i am capable of if pushed, its not just the racing itself its the prep of the car,me,all the organisation that is involved.Great fun,had help from lots of cool people and hopefully made some new freinds this year[:)]

I hope so too Mark [;)]. I agree 100% it is a fantastic journey one you are much further along than me but none the less I believe I may be addicted already (or is it afflicted [:D]). It does sort of take over from everything else. Its funny actually I was watching a track day vid the other night and got really frustrated at the driver. Then I remembered that that is what track days are like, you don't stuff it down the inside or drive flat out all the time. This made me think about what happens if I eventually settle at a point or level that is not competitive, would I chuck it in? TBH probably not as what else would we do?

Something else that is food for thought from another forum, did you realise that anyone getting round Silverstone Nat under 1:10 was actually going faster than every super car bar a caterham CSR tested by one of the mags there, ISTR the driver for the test was Plato (may have been linked on PH or tentenths, can't remember). Certainly helps to drive home how fast proper racing and race prepped cars are [8D].

Mark, by no means should you feel the need to apologise for anything. We have all read of this season's exploits with baited breath and cheer you on from the sidelines so to speak. Been very entertained so far and look forward to further dispatches this year and in the future.

Thanks

Patrick

Thanks Patrick,
Appreciate the support[:)],really looking forward to the last two race dates of the year Snetterton and Donnington, want to do as well as possible but more importantly take the car home at the end of the season...!
I think one of the positive things that has come out of this is for some people that have watched the car (outside of our circle here) is it has reminded them what a cracking underated car the 944 turbo is,the blue race car is totally road legal with all the things a road car needs lights, horn,it has all the underbody protection still in place and is not a acid dipped lightweight shell like most of the other 944s racing in the club,it is just a converted road car so weighs quite a bit more especially with all the turbo gubbins,so it is no lightweight especially with me on board and it has still done ok in its first season,if cars could think and were alive i bet it thought it was close to going to car heaven and suddenly it is being hammered around loads of race tracks!!!!!!

:ROFLMAO:,i dunno sometimes i feel like i am being mean to an old lady!,she does get "driven" fairly firmly!

Incase anyone is passing or out in their cars,CSCC future classics are racing this weekend at Snetterton,a few of us 944s out, lots of fast cars booked in,could be hairy[:D]!
(please let it come home sunday nite intact!)

Thanks for that[:)]
Car intact!yay![:)]
Some bigboy cars out today would say possibly the most grunty saloon shaped vehicles ever,a V8 aston and a 70s Camaro that makes a GT2 look pedestrian on the straights....it was like i was parked when they went by...wow
Had a really intense tussle with a 964 in the second race was So difficult to pass, span off at least once trying,a good day though no great positions for me but some of the best ding dongs of the season,in the second race there was no winners penalty and managed to finish quickest out of all the Porsches which i was happy enough with(sixth overall),just Donnington on Halloween and thats the end of the first race season of me and the car,it needs new suspension or a rebuild and maybe a facelift as she looks a bit weathered at the front and sides!
Great weekend for sura, some very funny moments.........YBB!!![:D][;)]

The second race was amazing, Ceiran Brewer's 964 vs Mark K's 944 Turbo - now that was entertaining racing!!

Give yourself a pat on the back dude, some respectable lap times there . . .
