Suspension & Brake refresh

Ed, interesting to see your KW's have the same rub marks on as Edd's. Yes those 2 with the cut out do sit up against the top mount, this is how they are put together...you can see how the 2 springs do not sit straight

In this picture you have the two sets of helper springs, are they the same height? if one set was taller I wondered if they would be for the rear of the car.

Hi Scott, They are all the same size, but as I say if you wind them all the way the noise is still there so I don't think that would have be the problem What I was surprised about was the fact that the rear springs were not Red, and they don't appear to be as thick a the fronts?

The rear springs are likely to be a fairly low rate because they work in combination with your torsion bar. notwithstanding that, I don't see why they shouldn't be held in place by the helper springs.

My Gaz Gold coil overs on my S2 clang and clatter when going over speed bumps or big irregularities. The well respected specialist who fitted them warned me of this. I accept it as a price to pay for the transformed track behaviour. Apparently KW3,s don,t do this?

The trouble is it isn't only over speed bumps or big bumps, it is over everything! If you had a ride in my car without the knowledge of this thread you would think something was broken on the rear axle and that is no exaggeration as I am sure Ed would confirm after driving her on Saturday. Also after I drove Ed's car - KW's do not bang, clang at all

Hi Andy, I have been following your thread and hoped you would get it sorted, but obviously you haven't. I think you have a few options, Take the car to someone who understands 944's and coil over suspension, like EMC, Centre Gravity or Pomax. Let them check it out and advise or set it up correctly. Remove coils from rear, these kits are available with or without coil over rears. Just check dampers are same. Where are Spax based? Could you take the car to them so they can resolve any problem. There was a guy with a 968 who I pm'd when I was considering these kits who was waiting on a resolution from Spax. Can't remember if he is on here or Tipec. Alan.

Replace the rear springs with just one spring? Maybe the rear isn't preloading and the dampern a are out off sink with the spring rate. How far off the ground do u have to jack the rear up b4 it springs are losse? Bit off long shot but could the help spring go at the top rather then bottom? Be in the weaker spring

Thanks guys for all the input, Spax have said that the car needs to be re-indexed further and raise the rear on the shocks to increase the load on the springs, I can and will run at Bedford with no springs on the rear, will remove them Saturday and hopefully there will be on noise! Once I have then re-indexed and everything is ok, they want my feedback and settings to then help others in future! A little while ago they did have a batch that had a few issues, but that was before mine where built - apparently! During our conversation today I did mention that a decent set of instructions might not go a miss with this kit, but I think along with the rest of my Spax woes (PSX kit etc) it fell on deaf ears The saga continues, but hopefully all will be quiet for Bedford otherwise the instructor might think the rear is about to fall off!!

Well the springs are off and the rear of the car is way way low, so obviously the shocks are not rated to run without the springs another step backwards and great advice from the Spax tech dept! Not quite sure what to do now, run with a noisy rear end I suppose?

im sure it can run without springs but you'd need to undo your reindexing.... at least Bedford is nice & smooth[:D]

Just have to wear earplugs for the journey there [:D] Just been thinking maybe I could run without the helpers? I could drop the front to level her up but that would throw all the Geo out?

What edh said. My shocks are the same as yours minus the parts to hold the springs, I know this because Spax said I could return them to have the addtional parts fitted.

Was wondering how far you can wind the platforms up - can you run without the helpers at the same height?

Cheers Scott, I just ain't got time to undo my re-indexing and do another Geo, my point was the Spax guy didn't indicate I would have to do that. Think I will see how it is with just the main springs, if no good will put all back together and as Ed says it's smooth on track so maybe not too much noise

ORIGINAL: 944Turbo Was wondering how far you can wind the platforms up - can you run without the helpers at the same height?
Looking at them I think the platforms wind up enough, got nothing to lose by trying probably do the whole job in about 90 mins now, getting to the stage where I can almost do it with my eyes shut [:D]

I can't really see what you'd achieve by running without helpers but it could be worth a go. It's only 4 bolts (plus back box)
