Track S2/968 mutant review

I'm with Neil on this, £17K is barking mad for this car and whilst an (ex) race car may be compromised for the road then it will almost certainly have been built to a better ultimate standard & will handle better on the track (the hybrid car in question does seem to have been built as a track car) due to it being stiffer and lighter.

If we we want to compare this car with a road legal track/ race car them maybe MarKo's road legal but race winning blue 944 Turbo would be a good starting point. I wonder how much Mark spent on that, & how much he'd sell it for now?

btw - on the subject of trackday costs, I worked out what my Honda has cost me this year - I'll start a new thread for it, but I think it makes interesting reading...

Super Lightweight ex-racecars is cheating [;)] I know it will be far cheaper on consumables than our heavy old road cars so I cry 'foul' before you even post :ROFLMAO:

It's a road legal 970kg (with a full tank) family hatchback with carpets, trim etc... [;)] (could be almost 100kg lighter if it was really stripped out - which is under consideration...)

I think this car puts it into perspective
I know which one I'd choose
For less than half the price, and I don't think anyone's been snapping his hand off at that sort of money.

We all know it's cheaper to buy a modified car already built. As Paul says, a lot of the fun is in the building - and I know how much is being poured into re-building my old turbo.

I love this car - if I had had the money I would have given it a serious look.

Sell [:D], I think if anything he will likely be tweeking it over the winter to fend of EMC with the turbo they will be running next year. If the two of them push each other then I can see with the Aston, camaro, 928 GT, 911 turbo, Morgan V8 etc. Future Classics will be pushing on another gear again next year.
 
And it still has some dieting to go - pop up lights etc

BTW I mentioned earlier the white EMC built and run S2 earlier as advertised on pistonheads. I also spotted Cieran Brewer is selling his S2, a really superb example of another EMC built car

Either would make the perfect PCGB class 2 car or an awesome track day car.
 
I'm with Scotty on this and, with no disrespect to Chris, a 944 is a 944 no matter how nice and, as such, will have a ceiling on the price. (Apparently £6K judging by the transactions)

As all of us who have done so will testify adding expensive upgrades to a car will not necessarily increase the value of the car and certainly not to the sum of the parts.[:(]

All that said a 944 in very good condition, with many new parts modified by a respected independent, is going to have added value but...... what is being asked!?!

I would further agree with the comment above that if you want a 968 engine get a 968. Insurance will be less onerous to sort (and therefore cheaper) and the residual value will always be higher, as will be the insurance pay out if it gets written off.

On the other hand we all know that 944's provide the best value performance per £ and you might struggle to find a better car for £17K. But that doesn't necessarily make it worth £17K.

A less date orientated colour might have made it more desirable to a wider audience as well.

There are still some special cases being sold for more than double that so modifying a car isn't always a total loss although you'll never get back what you put in on a 944, you just have to be patient. It seems serious cars can take 6months or so to sell.

From what I remember they were mounted on the badge panel - a quick job involving a few screws & some tape...

 
We now use a plastic badge panel with a slit to give extra airflow to the intercooler, so we used the original metal badge panel for the nightrace with metal braclets all screwed together predone before the race day(the tape was a measure against water around the drill holes if it rained during the race,after the day race we took the plastic panel off and replaced it with the metal one all the wiring was predone and ready underneath and we just plugged it in for the nightrace,worked a treat,Team Parker do have a bit of nightrace experience[;)]
From the inside though with the popups down it looked like a homemade 968[:D]
