Track S2/968 mutant review

ORIGINAL: _ian

On their web-site the car is listed as withdrawn from sale.

I picked up my car from RPM yesterday morning and their 944 track day car had been in a shunt on track this weekend.

[:(] Oh no, what a shame. Hope it's repairable and everyone was ok.

yes, Darren said the driver was unhurt, but understandably nervous about the conversation to follow. There's probably not an easy way to tell your boss you've crashed a Porsche he's just put up for sale.

Must have been all that power...[8|]

Hope the occupants were all unscathed.

I assume Oulton was wet this weekend, quite an easy track to have a big off at.
Very pleased to hear no one was hurt (well before Darren was told anyway [;)]).

God I hope they are OK and the car is not badly damaged.

+1 with Andy's comments, Paz you know my background it doesn't make my opinion or experience from this year any less valid, or observations I can make based on others. I had an awful start to my racing life but there where some positives to take from it as well. Most of all though it has been an experience I want much more of now I have had a taste of it.

Perhaps I am a glutton for punishment [:D]

Anyways if you ask Kev or Alex for their opinion on whether to go racing you already know what they will say mate [;)].

I keep forgetting this is your first foray into racing . . . I'm getting old and senile!

Next year the podium beckons Neil [:)]

All the usual suspects keep badgering me about getting my ARDS and racing next year, think I'll just stick to taking photos! [8D][8|]

Phew, steady on Paz [:D]. I will be happy just to get on the pace. In fact I have worked up a plan for next year that doesn't see me at the races until the summer. Tell you more next time I am up in Brum.

Sorry for the delay!

very professional job!
Daytime running Mark had slotted badge panel

Swapped over nicely, cooler night temps helped cooling etc but lights added to drag!

very professional job!

And we have "quote of the year" settled once and for all. [:D][:D]

Always amazes me how proper race cars are held together with gaffer tape and cable ties under the skin, rarely do we see it so obvious on the outside. Reminds me of the great you-tube video of Mclaren showing off their modifications for the first F1 night races.

Like I said the tape was just a measure against water, each light was bolted in four places.

Any of you 944 (or Honda!!) racers going to enter the 360 MRC 6 hour race on 30 April at Snett next year?

Tempted Andy but its to early in the year for me, will cost me to much but most worryingly I think my engine would need a rebuild after 6 hours solid running. It made a frankly amazing amount of power on the rollers but at 170K miles old it does burn a drop of oil or two.

I'm dragging this thread back up from the grave a bit but I had a little test run in RPM's 944/968 mutant on Friday and it is very impressive. It really does feel like you are driving a new car. They have even taken off the dubious black graphics :)

It will be back up for sale soon so anyone interested in a very fast, very sorted NA 944 should have a word with them.

I think Olly was a bit disappointed with my "Driving Miss Daisy" driving. I didn't feel that comfortable giving it full beans given it was wet, not my car and given its recent history!

Interesting thread. Yesterday a friend of mine very kindly lent me his S2 that he uses in Targa Tasmania. I was doing my O.L.T.s or observed licence test for a proper Race licence. I must say that it was good fun even though not properly set up. A fair bit of mid corner understeer. Easy to balance on the throttle as we all know and with shorter 3rd-4th-5th gears, quite fun to chuck about. Still a road registered car but with a cage, not really convenient to use as a daily driver.
Still, I can see why people like these cars. For someone that wants to get into club racing I would recommend one of these in a heartbeat. Low fuss, forgiving and easy to manage. Much like the car/s in this thread.
