Upgrading from M001 to M003

And interestingly, there isn't a shell number on a Cup car.

Because shells were designed to be replaced ?? !!

As an aside, how does this shell number relate to the panel numbers ? It seems to be completely different !

Or does Porsche have a master file somewhere ? [:D]

My Cup car has a shell no., didn´t check the panelnumbers though. AFAIK they should match.

Hacki

Hacki, just had a quick look at my M003 --- the number on the rear shelf (couldn't get to the under dash area) is a 7 digit number of which the last four digits are also stamped on the bonnet, rear engine cover and I understand inside the doors (couldn't get in there either).
This seven digit number is also printed on the top of the label under the bonnet --- in the format first three numbers, hyphen, last four numbers, but isn't printed on the label inside the service manual.

e.g. Shell number 1234567, top of bonnet label 123-4567, panel numbers 4567.

Thanks, for that detailed information! Checked that on my car, it´s exactly as you say. (never really paid attention on that the last 17 years) Looked numbers up on egine lid and bonnet, didn´t check the doors. Where are the numbers on the doors?

Somehow I´m happy to see the numbers match.

Freezing cold here, but dry. I will take the toy out for a short ride now.

It makes me smile Hacki when you refer to your Cup Car as the 'toy'. The saying is true that we never grow up, we just buy more expensive toys. I think sometimes we spend too much money on our toys!

I once read that we don't stop playing with toys because we get old: instead: we get get old because we stop playing with toys!

Can´t see a sign of getting old yet![;)]

Dear almighty source of N/GT wisdom, dear oracle, pleare hear a question from one of your obeisant subjects:

I checked out ZNS499174 today in my treasure hunt for a nice, affordable Clubsport. The more I saw the more questions came up:

- The harness (see pic) looked very unlike the one in my 964 RS Basis / M001. It looked rather like a C2 version
- The DME unit was located underneath the driver seat - instead of being mounted vertically behind the driver seat
- The roll cage had no number to it at all. It also looked as if it is not the regular N/GT version (second bar on the driver side, the cage did not reach all the way up into the roof but is welded in 2cm below the roof)
- the ABS unit was installed right next to the spare tire (i thought it should be sitting ca. 15 cm above the floor of the luggage compartment)
- No VIN sticker inside the bonnet, no service manual with a VIN sticker
- colour label missing

Dear Oracle, am I just to picky about everything ... or is ther something wrong with this car?

Please see also ze other pics

Klaus, I've been away and it's too late tonight but I'll take the same pics of my car tomorrow, ( assuming it's real ! )

I have Motec so I'll need to hunt out the original DME, but it should definitely be behind the drivers seat, not underneath it.

The roll cage should have a silver label on it with a Matter number ...

Aaah cup cars... I'd advise anyone to buy one for trackdays. So much simple fun at a reasonable cost! I have always felt that they reprsented a big fraction of RSR fun for a much smaller fraction of its cost!

Cup Cars .... hmm suppose if you want to rock around in a Modified C2 or actually have the pedigree RS N-GT FiA M003 "Clubsport" .....[;)]

Dear fellow sufferers,
I am looking for the real M003 pedigree [8D] My problem is that I can't trick my brain enough to make it believe that a beefed-up C2 is the same as a real N/GT. Them brains can be quite burdensome at times.

In case the wholy oracle and source of N/GT wisdom could offer a hint for a nice and affordable M003 to one of its obeisant subjects, it would be most appreciated [;)]

From my recent experience a good standard N-GT is from £50K plus in reasonably good conditiononly about 52 Euro! Cheap in the UK, Tomas and others are hoovering up 64 and 93RS here in the UK ..... Cheapest N-GT 64 in Europe 60K Euro ... buy in UK sell in Europe ...

Enquirer speak to Paul McLean GT Classics he might have a N-GT kurking .....

Colour is also a big premium, the pastels are worth more than the Blacks and reds...

White, Maritime, Mint Green best colours in the reverse order .....

Tomas wanted to retail my car for 70K in Europe!

Paul now appears to have 3 Clubsports on his site now http://www.gtclassics.co.uk/gtclassics2.htm

Some cars seem to have a cross in the roll cage across the door gap. However, others appear not to. Any ideas why the difference?

The standard Moo3 and cup cages have the single diagonal, the extra bar to form the X is a modification, no doubt makes the cage stronger at the sides. Quite a few German cars seem to have that done, whether it is a requirement for a race class, I am unsure.

Chris, have a look on the rear shelf of your NGT, there is a shell number stamped there, something else to worry about! [;)]

Don't worry chris that number is not an estimate for a paint Job!!!

clubsport - thanks, I had noticed it on several cars. I've no idea what series the cars are eligible for at the moment, I can't see now any organising body insisting on changing it, although I am sure it was different when the car was new, like you say.

964 Cup, 964 M003/NGT, 993 Clubsport all have a single down tube from the factory.
964 RSR, 993 RSR, 993 Cup; have the cross bar from the factory.

As suggested some cars were modified later to comply with the regulations of their race series. Generally a 964 M003/NGT or 993 Clubsport that has the cross bars in the doors are because they have been raced in a series that required it.

Paul, as we seldom see you on here, with the Gt2 up for sale will you be contesting the open this year?......It has been great having a serious air cooled front runner to follow the last few years.

To keep it on track, maybe you could use one of the 964 M003 you have for sale?

I tried to keep things vaguely relevant to the 964 RS
