I would hope so as the bigger bored exhaust isn't going to make as big a difference as it could without it...that turbo downpipe is important in releasing those much sort after extra horses...:)
 
Chopped the inner pipe out of a spare standard one I have Pete, it's near enough a match for a Lindsey 61-10. I don't like the look of some aftermarket ones that don't have the mounting bracket.
 
Mine is custom, it doesn't have a bracket either but this has never caused any problems, gives a little more room in that area too...
 
The Exhaust was custom made by Matt at a Longlife franchise in Basingstoke 3" throughout. He did a fantastic job for a steel of a deal. Down pipe was removed with turbo in situ it's a pig of a job, but I've done it myself before. He re-used the turbo mount bracket and welded a custom one on the other end to match with the custom exhaust (no support bracket). I had contemplated the LR downpipe, but then when I convinced Matt to do it all, it was much better value...
VEMS should be with us very shortly...
 
Sorry but I forgot when it was up on the ramp and as it happens, I was using my phone light to take a closer look!
 
Arrived - excited!, but not fitted. Car is in for some paintwork so it'll be a few weeks yet. I'll update this thread with progress.
 
Just an update, I should be starting to fit the VEMS kit this weekend/next week hopefully.

Peep (the vendor) is currently on holiday in the States (and doing some tuning out there too) but he has been helpful via some Messenger chats and emails answering loads of questions I've had. I'll update this thread or start a new one as I install the kit as there isn't a "how to" anywhere online and it'll no doubt help others.

Of note though, Peep has confirmed that he has got the factory boost gauge working - this will be standard on new kits in the near future but will require a couple of new components for me and Phil that he will send out to us. Also, he's told me how to hook up my oil temperature sensor to enable that as a display output via Bluetooth (2 wires, very simple). I'm going to leave my Apexi AVCR boost controller in for the time being and get the VEMS tuning table populated but will then remove this and let VEMS control boost too.

Part of the package that Peep offers involves the tuning table. He has written a tuning map for the car based upon a safe but ideal lambda setting at all load and boost settings. With the car in autotune mode you drive around and the car analyses the lambda and tweaks fuelling, ignition, etc. until every point on the map turns green - the car is then tuned. Being a positive feedback system that knows far more parameters than the original DME, it has the ability to use these inputs to make changes on the fly as a modern car system does to ensure that optimum tune is met irrespective of the conditions. Or at least that's the plan!
 
Autotune is great when starting from a more or less blank sheet of fueling map. You may notice over time though that some adjustments will have to be done manually for engine load situations that occur more often that you thought they would, particulary on the road - we instinctively vary throttle inputs a lot. For example, blending the fuel delivery or fuel cut off when working around the idle throttle position takes quite some time, and should be at the same time as adjusting the ignition timing ramp in the same low load area, in order to get the smoothest engine response thus the most satisfying behaviour from a road car which you may not want to push you off the road like a hooligan at the smallest throttle input, and make town driving a pain in the back. Tuning correctly an engine for the road takes more time and attention to detail than tuning a race engine, but reaching good results all by "yourself" is quite satifying.
 
I intend to do much of the base tuning myself and then get the car on a rolling road for a bit of tweaking with an experi nice dyno operator I know.

Which part? If you mean boost control then I'm not wanting to change too many variables at once.
 
Remove APex'i AVCR return to standard and then fit VEMS - definitely what you told me on the telephone. This appeared to follow that ethos as itll be a standard car when the DME & KLR are removed. Can the wastegate run as standard?
 
I was planning on getting everything going in a one-er but given that the Apexi is so good at boost control I'll leave this in place as a constant whilst I tune everything else.

If I fully remove the Apexi and don't connect anything up then I'd be running at spring rate boost anyway. leaving it in means I know I've got a stable 18psi and I can tune to and around that. Once the ECU is set up then I can swap it out and tune boost as the only variable.

Aside from perhaps cold start and warm up, won't tuning on the road using the autotune give the best mapping ?
 
It's in. It runs. It idles smoothly.

A bit of setup and a bit of maths but the base tune is sound. Played about with the analyser and AutoTune functions on the drive and it seems ready to hit the road ??
