So its not far behind even on the 0-300kph (187mph)
I think its a combo of 4wd, PDK and further trickery with launch control.
Th intresting bits are the 3rd gear 20mph increments

Apologies for the late post but I have been away for the past couple of weeks with back to back road trips to Switzerland and Ireland......well someone has to do it.
Just coming up for a year with mine and have run pretty much the full gamut of a year's normal driving including winter snow and ice; Waitrose; Alpine passes; Autobahn; to say nothing of a couple of Register trips. The only thing missing is using it on a circuit and that just goes a little against the grain. The Verdict?
Peerless.
And the only problem is what to replace it with. But let's worry about that later.
Enjoy. []

991 Turbo - around 50 kg lighter given the aluminium bodyshell , longer wheelbase, wider front track so faster around corners. Doubt there will be a big increase in power given Porsche are going down the weight-loss path. Got to wait 3 years for it though by which time you will have lost about 50% on a current cars value [] Limited edition models/makes seem to be much better at holding their residual values - Carreras and Turbos are just money-pits when upgrading to the latest models.
50k+ depreciation on a Turbo in 3 years is equivalent to keeping your current car and buying a new Cayman R or an M3 to compliment it!
Saying all that, mmmmmmm:

How many miles on the clock now Nick?
I know I'm looking a bit grey these days but even so some things are best kept private [] ........unless you mean the car which has about 7200. And if you add a few K in the previous car puts me at around 10k of Gen2 turbo motoring. Lovely, and continuing to enjoy every minute of it.

Yeh, I've always liked ruby red. To be honest there are three things I am a bit tired of with my current Turbo - the looks (colour and no aerokit), the lack of warranty that covers cars under 2 years old (older than that you still have to pay for wear and tear anyway), and although my car is super grippy/compliant it is quite a hard ride. But then you I do have a sports exhaust, suspension that can correct sagging over time, a rewarding manual gearbox, and more power than I can use (I never use Sport button over-boost, there is just no need).
So really I am just jealous of Tom going through the experience of buying a new car - very addictive!
In the US they are giving quite big discounts on Turbo S cars - such a thing here may sway me, but for now I will continue to dream...

Having just finished reading this months EVO, Porsche really do need to move things on for the 911, mind you even the Mclaren not taking the trophy against the 458...
Here's the EVO review:

What I didn't understand about that article was why they used the Turbo S in the comparison and not, say, the GT2RS which seems to me to be more in the class (certainly cost wise![&:]) of the others. Also to be borne in mind is that this particular version of the 911 is nearing the end of it's life where as the others in the test were not.ORIGINAL: garyw

Thanks for the comments guys
picked it up Monday, been working away and its been raining[]
Still running it in, so haven't been up past 3k revs. its still **ing quick
First impressions, more agile and more steering wheel feel than I thought their would be and the S suspension feels taughter than the standard turbo suspensions
Quietly pootles along in Auto mode with around 28-30mpg on a long run, nice comfy slushy. Then put it into manual it immediately feels more sporty and more agile than the stock 997 turbo
There is a lot more feedback through the steering wheel than I thought there would be.
New Bose and New Satnv are welcome updates
20mph into roundabout leading to national speed limit, 2 lane, Merc has seen me and is flooring it for all he is worth to get past, I am in manual mode in 4th gear, no sport or sport plus. Simply floor the throttle and blink - been teleported down the road, now doing 70-ish and Mer smudge in distance. I am left thinking "20mph in 4th how the ** did it do that". Head is sore from having been hit by the headrest [][][]
